"However another source told Vanguard that the two people killed were commercial motorcyclists who came out for brisk business but were sighted near the blockade put on the road by the soldiers who started questioning them on why the road was blocked"

soldiers put up a blockade then start questioning the two motorcyclists as to why they placed the blockade? lol. who write these things.
if the blockade was done by the soldiers, why the heck would they now be questioning those two about it.

DubaiLandLord1:
Two dead as IPOB’s Sit-at-home turns bloody in Nnewi

The Sit-at-home directed by IPOB, early Monday got bloody in Nnewi with two people losing their lives in a confrontation between the Army and suspected members of IPOB.

The unfortunate incident happened at the Izuchukwu junction area of the Nnewi roundabout according to an eyewitness who alleged that the dead was a leader of IPOB alongside a commercial motorcyclist.

Vanguard gathered that the problem started at about 7.00 am when some IPOB members allegedly came out to enforce the Sit at home order and in the process blockade the major roads in the industrial town.

Some unidentified soldiers were said to have rushed to the area to clear the items used to block the roads, and in the process an altercation ensued between them and the IPOB members, leading to the soldiers opening fire on them.

The eyewitness said that the two victims were actually killed by gunshots from the unidentified soldiers, who quickly took off immediately after they fell to their bullets.

However another source told Vanguard that the two people killed were commercial motorcyclists who came out for brisk business but were sighted near the blockade put on the road by the soldiers who started questioning them on why the road was blocked and following jot exchange of words with the soldiers, they were shot by the soldiers who hurriedly left the scene.

Meanwhile, the industrial town has been reduced to a ghost town as the people who initially came out to survey the level of compliance to know if they could open for their daily business rushed back home to save their lives.

Some vehicles were also smashed by aggrieved persons over the attack on the civilians by armed soldiers.

However, a combined team of security agencies as at the time of filing this report later stormed the town to disperse the protesters who gathered in protest against the killing of the civilians by the soldiers.

It will be recalled that IPOB, warned residents of the state against coming out of their homes, following an alleged plan by the military to attack people and branding them IPOB and Eastern Security Network, ESN members.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, for Anambra State command Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, could not be reached to confirm the deaths.

It is interesting the meandering and cognitive dissonance they go through just to paint Nigerian soldiers as evil. ESN had gunned down innocent civilians yet they are still telling themselves lies.

Plans also for US Excess Defence Articles for NN;

Asked if there were plans by the U.S to transfer naval assets to Nigerian Navy (NN) under the Excess Defence Article programme, Pierangelo said talks were on, adding that the NN had indicated interest in a number of equipment and that there were eligible to request.

“The NN has expressed great interest in receiving ships from the Excess Defence Article programs. They are of course eligible. Our partnership remains strong with Nigerian Navy. We are here to train and work with the Nigerian Navy. It is important we engage with Nigerian agencies,” she said.
excess defence article again, that's how we received ships (NNS THUNDER and CENTENARY) after enough boy boy to the USA, ships that were totally stripped of all offensive and defensive capabilities with only canons left, cannons that I have not even seen the NN fire even in training, also two alpha jets we were able to get was so stripped it seems we had to repaint it our self's, kudos to NAF who were able to retrofit and upgrade the jets to be able to carry dumb bombs and shot Rockets..

Sorry if am not estatic, has the USA been a good military partner to us the answer is NO...

You won't get any argument from me as I agree. I think the navy just wants the hull of vessels and then up-arm them. They even do that with the new Ocea boats from France.

There were only cannons on the those ex US Coastguard Cutters in the first place and you understand that OPVs roles do not require offensive weapons other then guns. The only module they removed was the outdated Phalanx CIWS - same condition as those given to the Philippines. Do you expect anyone will gift us an fully equipped Air-Defence Destroyer for free hugs?

The Ocea boats from france are armed. I have not seen anywhere in the world where a research/scientific ship is armed with more than a cannon at most.

It's quite ridiculous that some of you experienced defence contributors are making these sorts of complaints about the armament on NNS Lana.

Yes they where stripped off but we can always re-arm them back, We can always do that through the help of Germany, South Korea etc.

For me half cake is better than none, if this turns out to be true.

You are wrong. we received NNS Thunder and NNS Okpabana from America.

Both ships were never seriously armed even in American service. They are both Coast Guard Cutters.

Long Endurance patrol ships, the kind of ships we seriously needed at as the time they were transferred to us.

Let me also tell you, before those ships were gifted to Nigeria, the Nigerian navy did not have one single Ocean going Ship in active service. Not 1!!!

So while you moan, remember that.

Also many countries around the world, including big European countries like Turkey are beneficiaries of second hand Ships from the US.

Even in Africa, Egypt has received many second hand frigates from America in the past.

The US has been a good military partner to Nigeria.

Look at the number of joint military exercises each year.

Most of the coast guard cutters received from the US had functioning 75mm (or was it 76mm) rapid rate of firing guns range up to 40km

What makes you think I am talking about NNS Lana (It will be armed by the Navy as it also carries out a security role) or making a complaint?

I am talking about the FPB 72 & 110 boats which arrived without canons and were subsequently installed by the Navy. Other navies like the Algerian Navy had theirs delivered with RWSs.

The navy usually install one of the Singapore Technology Kinetics cannons.

BTW, you don't have to go on the offensive even if you disagree.

a good partner you say, have we ever been disgraced and shamed as a nation while trying to buy arms and equipment from Russia or China, with the USA we usually make headlines and always for the wrong reasons, the Tucano deal comes to mind, 6 years of begging and insults even with our money

Or rather they've seen that Nigeria is about to mess up itself just as the Middle East. In ten years time, the scale of Nigeria's insurgency will be so serious that the government might not control a lot of areas. South east Nigeria is already walking into a long unending insurgency. Is that the fault of the US?

Zulum in Baga, resettles 1,200; provides them food, clothes, cash

... Lauds Buhari, security agencies.

Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum travelled to Baga, a famous fishing area over the weekend, during which he supervised the resettlement of 500 families that were made up of 1,200 members displaced for more than seven years, by insurgents attacks.

Of the 1,200 family members, 716 women each received N10,000 cash, a wrapper and children clothings, while 486 men received also N10,000 each.

Both the men and women each received a bag of rice, a bag of maize grits and other condiments.

Doron Baga, a fishing community located in the shores of Lake Chad is in Kukawa Local Government Area, and was a major area of economic interest to Boko Haram, during their occupation for more than seven years.

Displaced residents relocated IDP camps in Monguno IDPs until Zulum set up a resettlement committee that was headed by Borno’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan. The committee rebuilt homes and public institutions and began to safely resettle residents, most of whom had been anxious to return.

At the latest resettlement, Zulum addressed returnees at Doron Baga primary school.

"This town was dislodged by the insurgents many years ago. Today, to the glory of God, we are witnessing the first return of the people to their home town from Monguno town of Monguno Local Government Area” the Governor said.

Zulum however warned the returnees that, Government will not condone any form of sabotage from any individual, enjoining them to report any suspicious person or activity, as it is only with their co-operation, that security could continue to safeguard Baga.

Resettlement committee chairman, Kaka Shehu Lawan said that success of people's return was due to Zulum’s resilience and untiring effort, explaining that with the return, many have returned to fishing businesses

... Zulum lauds Buhari, security agencies

Meanwhile, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has applauded the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment towards the return of peace to the shores of Lake Chad and ongoing resettlement.

"Let me use this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari first for creating the enabling environment that ensured the return of this very important community."

The Governor also appreciated the efforts of the Nigerian military, other security establishments and volunteers in civilian JTF, hunters and vigilantes for supporting the military and the resettlement committee’s reconstruction efforts.

... Zulum assesses former Gov. Ma'aji's residence

While in Baga, Governor Zulum took time to assess destructions done to the residence of former Borno State Governor, Senator Maina Ma'aji Lawan.

Maina Maaji, a prince and resident of Baga of Kukawa Local Government Area, accompanied Zulum during the trip.

Other top Government officials that accompanied the Governor included Chairman of the resettlement committee, Barr. Kaka Shehu Lawan, the member representing Kukawa at the Borno State House of Assembly, Haruna Kukawa, Commissioners for reconstruction rehabilitation and resettlement, Engr Mustapha Gubio, that of Agriculture, Engr. Bukar Talba, and Water Resources, Engr. Tijjani Goni Alkali, some APC stakeholders and top Government officials.

The Taliban in Pakistan launches attacks against Pakistan, the government even spent billions building border fence to stop attacks from spilling into Pakistan but even at that they still offer support to the Taliban.

You're also right on the role Qatar is playing. I know for certain they (Al Jazeera) give significant coverage to the successes of Taliban's campaign than any other major news media.
