Mad o... I bet non of his lecturer has ever given him such a valuable assignment ever b4 grin

But its amazes me how our young graduates who are supposed to be thinking of how to become an entrepreneur or go further their education to become something great in life (for those who have the resource and sponsorship) are thinking of becoming a uber driver. I wont be surprised the king of the ant will advice the young man to buy a Corolla and start the hustle right away.

I just cant imagine with will become of this country in another 20yrs time.

That innoson connect looks like Korope with AC.. apart from the new car smell, the car looks frail and fragile.

That car doesn't have a second hand value, and you cant carry 3 people at the back to sit comfortably.

That car might be good for private use but I dont think it can withstand the pressures of Ehailling.

I could be wrong tho, but my 2cents.

Most drivers wont make it pass 6months on Bolt to low rating... Is it not bolt riders that will want you to carry 6passengers with loads? Well it's uber shall so they may last longer but one thing is certain, most riders won't like it for a 2nd ride.

Wow. The pressure is that, there's no place or somewhere to fall back too if the money stop coming. I have not make up my mind fully on becoming a driver, to me 2m is still a very sum, though I still earn online, I'm just planning on what to venture on incase the earnings online stop coming

Simple inflation happened bro. Nothing special. I remember when this corolla was 900k Tokunbo. Dollar was around 150 then.

900k divided by 150 is $6000

$6000 USD today is 3,000,000 naira.

The same corolla today is about 2,500,000, which is less than 3,000,000.

Did it increase in value or decrease?

Resale value is a scam. Always factor in inflation.

As in..

This Chinese car is 2.5m, I will gladly buy a fresh toks corrolla for the same 2.5m.

Check this scenario

What if there is an accident (most likely to happen)
How much and how long will it take to fix both cars?

Which car will come back looking like nothing happened?

Nothing like tested and trusted..

Note: you can buy that car for personal use, but I dont think its advisable for ehailling.

I could be wrong sha.

As of August 2020. Corolla 2006 toks was bought at 1.8m.

Currently naija used corolla 2006 grade is 1.3/1.45m. These are the ones they bought Probably 1.7 0r 1.8m and not 2.2m plus.

I never said I wouldn't do repairs. I said it wouldn't give me headache

A brand new engine, a brand new transmission, a brand new AC system. This won't give me worries for 18 months.

And you're getting it wrong with the bolded.

Nobody is looking for money to buy a new car after three years. The goal is to recoup my capital, which is still the money for a new car.

Don't downplay the economic benefits of Brand new Chinese vehicles. There is a reason GIG stopped buying Mercedes Sprinter buses and started using Chinese Knockoffs.

E get why grin

Am trying to remove sentiments, attachments and perception from this discourse And focus on reality and hard facts.

U may say it's ur preference but give me valid reasons lets compare notes.
For me, A sound tokunbo 2006 corolla is better than a brand new Innoson Connect for ehailing in the long run.
If u r looking at short term, which means u dispose ur Innoson when it can no longer hold and buy another one, then u end up spending more cos I wouldn't spend 3m-4m maintaining my tokunbo corolla in 3yrs.

Let me gist u, I lived in a south south state between 2005 and 2011 midway during my stay d state govt launched brand new 07/08 Chevrolet Aveo for transportation, and I was privileged to get one.
The car started falling apart in less than 6months, with no spare parts support and competent mechanics with knowledge of the car, d problem only compounded. We managed to get parts from Lagos but In the end, the car was just not strong enough for the rigours of transportation. Mine is still parked in d mechanic workshop till today. And for many others that owned the car they all parked up within 3-4yrs. I don't think anybody that used that car for transportation completed the payment before the car packed up...that's a state that has 80% of roads tarred, no Ijegun or Akute type of road and no Lekki flood type of water.
My brother, ok cloth and shoe from US, France or Italy better pass brand new from naija and china. grin
New engine and gear that cannot last 3yrs and tokunbo engine that can last 5yrs.
New AC compressor that cannot last 3yrs and tokunbo compressor that last 5years?
I prefer the tokunbo.

Do u go into business just to recoup ur capital without making profits?
Or r u hoping that the value of the car after u get ur capital will be ur profit?
In both cases, u must be sure the car will still be standing after 3-4yrs of rgourous use if u hope to make anything tangible out of it thereon, either through continuous usage for the work or resale value.

NB: GIGM using Chinese Buses is in comparison to buying brand new Toyota hummer buses or brand new Peugeot or Mercedes sprinter buses which are 2 or 3 times more expensive. That is not the case here since we are talking about new china/naija and tokunbo toyota which are about the same price.
