Relinquishing such lump sum to the States is a battle I see the government at the center fighting up to the highest court of the land.

It makes no sense generating a heavy chunk of VAT from one particular area and sharing it with people who are not appreciative of this gesture but instead feel entitled.

Let each States control its generated VAT. (Q.E.D)

You can as well talk about the regim that have executed more projects than this regim.

Amperes:
This regime has earned more money from IGR than any other In the history of Nigeria, this is 512 billion in one quarter, that's around 2 trillion per year from VAT alone, proceeds from, income tax, sales of crude oil e.t.c is not included. Yet this regime has borrowed in six years more than what was borrowed between 1999-2015. The government is just feeding fat from the people without much to show for it. While the people are suffering and smiling.

Nothing less than 40% of the total amount was generated in Lagos state. If the current federal high court judgement is upheld by the Supreme Court, Lagos state will start competing with the Federal government in terms of financial strength.
Lol

If it stands, it will really help a lot of Southern states with more finance. I hope it stands, Lagos needs more money for infrastructure.

A lot of Nigerians do not appreciate the import of the recent decision of the Federal High Court Port Harcourt on a suit filed by Rivers State on interpretation of the law on whether it is Federal Government (FIRS) that is entitled to collect VAT for VATable goods and services within a State. Rivers Government has broken the financial door for all States in Nigeria to enter any supermarket, hotels, businesses of all kinds where goods are sold or services rendered to demand for their VAT as opposed to it being collected by FIRS in w common pool and shared to all States. The import of this is that if Enugu or Lagos or Owerri or FCT sells more goods or renders more services, they will have more VAT to collect. Those States that have used insecurity to shot down their States will have not VAT to collect.

The increase is a pittance, considering the Naira has lost about 20% of it value since then. What makes it worse is that VAT has been increased by 50% since then, hence, a double-digit rise was to be expected. This is really disappointing.

A federal High Court in port harcourt has stopped the FIRS and AGF from collecting tax from states, stating That taxes from states belong to state governments and not federal government.

Tell them oooo, cause dey don know. If you want more vat, then make your state condusive for business or else the business will leave you state to a more friendly state and increase the vat revenue, hope the northern state are watching.

If this is implemented, Lagos , Anambra, Rivers , Akwa ibom would be Dubai of Nigeria
