Berlin SBI - I fell for that trap and up till now, no way to get my 1,000 euros back. They promised me that I will get it back if I change my mind, so i paid. 635k was what Access charged when i paid with card in March 2021.

I submitted all the documents and got the admission. However, I had change of plans. Since April, I have been pursuing them for refund with no luck!!!

A private university might ask for deposit after they might have offered you admission and they give you time for that

However the website you posted looks like scam web, notice how it starts with ‘web.’ a copy to the main university website that starts with ‘www.’
Also the number that’s calling you have a UK dial code +44 instead of German which is +49

I think this is the correct link to the school site https://www.berlinsbi.com/admissions/postgraduate-application but then if it is truly the school then understand that this is applicable to most private uni, the non-refundable first deposit towards school fees or you can call it commitment fee
It is usually subtracted from the remainder of the school fees you need to pay

Thanks man. Please could you point me to this updated policy for Jan. 2021? All I find about the update is that contributions changed.

I pay ~110€ currently. The ~175€ is the possible amount I could be paying from yr 30. I calculated from the quotes given here (https://www.tk.de/en/i-am-tk/tk-members/how-much-is-the-contribution-for-students--2099012)

MrAAA2:

If you want to continue working, I will advise you continue with TK and I don't think you will be able to move to private again with the new Jan 1, 2021 policy.
By the way, why are you paying up to 175? TK is 110 for the first month and about 104 subsequently and if you're working, it rises to about 153. Perhaps you should call them to ask.

Why did you changed your mind? And you already paid, as a private institution their mission is to admit students and make money, I wish you Goodluck in getting your money back, I applied to the school and got admission but I was told to pay 2k or 1k to proceed but I didn’t pay and they promised they me help me get Appointment date but I sense it might not be true so why paying 2k and waiting for AD for over 1 year for category B

Compatriots in Deutschland, as I'm about to take a decision I'll like to know between Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) and Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg - University of Applied Sciences. Between the two cities, which of them is more viable in terms of students job and less expensive accommodation.

FAU wins both for university and city viability in almost every metric.

I study in Bavaria and will tell you don’t go to Erlangen. It’s not that big of a city and the unfriendliness of Bavaria will get to you. Bonn is a big city and very close to big cities like Cologne and Düsseldorf.

Also erlangen is a strict uni as I have professors who schooled there and I personally have done cross courses!

You are aware that Hochschule BRS is not a university in Bonn, right? Of the 3 campuses there's none in Bonn. Also the rural district (Kreis) where the main action happens(two campuses are located here) - Rhein-Sieg-Kreis is not even a part of Bonn but Cologne. FAU is Nuremberg-Erlangen. Erlangen is among the top 10 or even 5(if I remember correctly) cities in terms of economic opportunity and prosperity. Nuremberg is still the largest city in Bavaria after Munich the last time I checked. Let's not even get into the comparison of the two institutions. So I would rather that an international student be in a difficult top school(except they aren't ready to study of course) and have abounding opportunities than go to a village with less opportunities just because Bavarians have an attitude. Just thought you should have the above in mind. Just my two cents tho

your points are valid. but i think the major one is that FAU >BRS. but it is quite easy to live in Bonn and study there...bonn and colonge de very close.

I will turn 30 soon. Currently, I study and have TK in Germany. Do you advise that I change to private insurance from 30? The charge from TK for when I turn 30 is in the upwards of €175, while that of Mawista (private) is ~€34. Also, are there are potential problems with having a private insurance on the long run?
go to mawista and switch back to public after school (when you start working full-time)

from 30 years, the rate changes. i guess you are below 30.
Best bet is to go private and switch back to public after schooling.

If its the issue of racism I don't have problem with that because' over here in Naija there are lots of racism especially when you're not from a particular region which I have experienced severally, and talking about strict school still don't have problem with that because' I passed thru lecturers that normally got angry if a student score ordinary C not to talk of scoring A or B in their course and they will even tell you that over their dead body you grad with first class or second class upper.
However, I'm asking to know the city that is more economically viable.

For economic viability, always look for data as personal experiences may differ. Because it depends on how a person goes for the opportunities. But data will tell you the way it is and you can make of it what you want. The only thing that should surpass data is God's direction (in my opinion). Here is a link that helped me to shun a big city like Hamburg to go for one that's much smaller(12x smaller) and I have not regretted that decision ever. The link will show you where cities and districts stand in Germany in terms of economics(job market included). It is published every 3years, so the latest is 2019. On mobile toggle chrome to give you the desktop version, that way you can view the whole page. Then toggle Ranking if the default is Map(Karte). Then translate of course. Enjoy!

Hi!
Unfriendliness does not equate to racism smiley
Economically Bonn > Erlangen and also there are bigger cities like cologne Düsseldorf Essen and Duisburg.
Cheers

Yes, it is part of it. But like others have mentioned that may not be an issue if you can easily commute to the big cities around. But I will go with FAU, but that's just me. And bros e get why. Lol.
