sir, I currently have make these for 40,000. I even did it for few weeks ago for someone here. But you see the design in question, I won't do it for less than 80,000 today. You don't compare 1mm gauge design pan with 2mm plain doors designed with wrought iron rods.

This third and fourth design goes for 120,,000. And it also has a plain back. No single design on the back


I'm happy she will be receiving the doors today. Let her compare the quality of the later with former.

This door is not in the same class with the door Michlins did, this one you showed is much cheaper compared to the one Michlins did. This is imported embossed metal that is common everywhere while Michlins did a designed door. If you paid N35,000 for this door 3 years ago, they cheated you. It should be N25,000 then.

Sister, that door he built for you is good at that price, it could cost more elsewhere. Designed doors, just like every other things designers do is always more expensive. They gather different materials and work on them to achieve one result, uniqueness, and that comes at a cost. Generic designs that you can pick everywhere will be cheaper because of they are mass produced and common.

Coming to whether it should be two faces or one, I think you both made wrong assumptions as one of us had pointed out earlier. You were believing the design will be in two sides while he has been doing that on one side all along. He didn't show you the back of the door before you paid, but you didn't ask either. That's why I said assumptions were made.

I will advice that you stop using derogatory terms to describe his person or his services because there was no clear cut attempt to cheat in this whole situation. I will advice that you both talk about this more, offline and come to a solution.

When she made contact, I asked her if she wanted a commercial door or personalized door and she chose the later. I showed her samples and she made a choice. When I told her the price, she called me on phone to negotiate and I explained in details what materials I will work with and I specifically mentioned plain pan.

She was part of the building process as she receives daily update on what I was doing which includes more than two pictures at a time. After painting the doors, that's why she started the issue. I was still explaining to her on WhatsApp why the door can't have the design on the back but she rushed here. The reasons are as follows;

The size of pipe is 1½" and that design takes up 1¼" so there's no space at the back to do anything else.

Another thing is weight. Already that door is very heavy as it is due to the materials which are basically wrought iron. 14mm wrought iron was used to make the design. Adding more weight will affect the frame and hinges.

I even gave her an offer. I told her if anyone else will do that same door for 80,000 in Lagos, I will dash her 50,000 for inconveniences. The only reason I wanted to do the job for her at the price even with significant looses was to advertise my business here and around her estate and I told her that even before I started. Calling me a fraud and cheat wasn't what I expected.


At this point, I regret taking the job.

Did you at any time show a pictures of BOTH sides of the door? Either the sample she selected or hers during work-in-progress?

There's no need to say you regret.
This is NL and NL is a country of its own.
In NL it's easy to call someone such derogatory names but they don't know it's so easy to wipe it off even if they delete the posts.
I guess in subsequent jobs please let every pictorial detail be sent to the client to avoid such stories. Please ensure even when you say plain design or not kindly forward pix of all sides of the sample product or finished product. Many clients when finding faults will not remember what was discussed over the phone. This is one of the reasons many people rely on voice notes as evidence.

Do what you do and keep doing it good and better. God will do the remaining for you.

I hv paid him his balance even though his use of language over this issue was unprofessional but i hv taken it as it is but am very sad about having one sided design in my build . If i was made aware of this blank sided design,i wont do it . He told me about using plain pan of which i thought normally plain pan is used in making door but not knowing he is using to make the back side as he didn't explain of what use the plain pan will be . People said the back side of the door looks like a warehouse door anyway i will manage it like that .

I’m picking a very good lesson from this. Even though it is something I normally do but I think I’ll make it a “standard operating procedure” moving forward.

Here’s something I did in 2019 (sorry 2020) and the update pics sent to my client.
