Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel Gets Commendation as First MR Vessel Berths in Akwa Ibom


Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has been commended for his unwavering support that culminated in the berthing of the first Medium Range Tanker Vessel in Akwa Ibom State.


The Chairman, Virgin Forest Energy Ltd., Mr. Johnson Chukwu gave the commendation while speaking last Wednesday, on arrival of the vessel, MT African Marvel at Ebughu, in Mbo Local Government Area.


Mr. Chukwu extolled Governor Emmanuel’s “unflinching support to the company in the arduous task of opening the channel,” which took Virgin Forest Energy Limited and her partners in Ibaka-Oron Petroleum Depot Owners Association (a group of Companies operating logistics, storage and jetty facilities in the shore side of Ibaka) more than six years to dredge the 14km Mbo River Channel from a draught of 3-4 metres to 9-10 metres.


The Chairman equally singled out the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem and the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Committee on Foreign Direct Investment, Mr. Gabriel Ukpeh for their exceptional support and assistance, which contributed to the success of the company’s investment in the State.


[/b]With the completion of the dredging of the Mbo River Channel and the successful arrival of MT African Marvel, Akwa Ibom has now effectively joined states like Lagos, Rivers, Cross River and Delta as one with an active Maritime industry, thus residents of the State and those of neighbouring states can be assured of regular supply of petroleum products at affordable prices.[b]


The event was witnessed by the Management of Virgin Forest Energy Limited, led by the Managing Director, Lady Nneoma Johnson Chukwu, representatives of all the oil industry regulators including the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) lead by the Zonal Operations Controller for Port Harcourt, Mr. Ineh Goddey.

Yes, it will service Abia too in the meantime, but in the long run Abia also needs to dredge the Obehie river same way Akwa Ibom dredged this river in collaboration with the Igbo businessman but we all know how Nigerian government always witch-hunts Igbo interests because they're afraid we will become more prosperous and independent to push for Biafra.

If this river can be so easily dredged by up to 14 kilometers, then the Obehie river can also be dredged quite easily.

A question I have asked time and time again. Some set of people want everything in their zone and will manoeuvre to block anything sighted elsewhere. Same set of people will then turn around to complain that Lagos is congested and that others should go back to their zone and develop it. Talk about having your cake and eating it.

Is it state government that built Tin Can, Apapa and MMIA? Is it state government that approves for ports to be built?
