TAQQIYA person in overdrive.

Prolonged fighting against Boko Haram is like slow death for Nigeria, continued dehumanization of the people in Nigeria.
Who in Nigeria of today wants that except perhaps some people in far northern Nigeria who see one Nigeria as a cake and waiting for the day all Nigeria is to be governed with Islamic Sharia criminal laws?

Best thing to do to save lives of Nigerians is dissolve Nigeria into more manageable countries.

1.Well, I am not a muslim

2.Even if we divide Nigeria, we would all still have to unite against Boko. Because Boko won't be stopped by division. They won't stop until they raise the flag of ISLAM over every part of this continent.

So, whatever your political belief is, you have to stand against Boko, and do it now. Running into your shell won't save you.

Good afternoon.

This is getting brutal and serious each passing day! shocked
Civilians fearing that the Taliban could reimpose the kind of brutal rule that all but eliminated women's rights rushed to leave the country, lining up at cash machines to withdraw their life savings.
Helicopters buzzed overhead, some apparently evacuating personnel at the U.S. Embassy. Several other Western missions were also preparing to get staff out.

The Taliban seized nearly all of Afghanistan in just over a week, despite the hundreds of billions of dollars spent by the U.S. and NATO over nearly two decades to build up Afghan security forces. Just days earlier, an American military assessment estimated it would be a month before the capital would come under insurgent pressure.

Afghans are cowards. They are refusing to fight.

It's almost here. Taliban has the support of the people just like the BH has the support of most Muslims in Nigeria.

Because the Taliban comes from an ethnic group that forms 37% of the population, hence the largest ethnic group in the country.

Current president and former one came from the same tribe.
So I dont think its a possible reason.

Even taliban easily took over other areas that belong to other tribes.
The government is very unpopular.

With them fully in control of that country, it means they have unrivaled access to the country's resources. That means they can now fund other Islamic terrorist outside their territory.

Africa should watch with keen interest.
Iran, the state sponsor of terror has been doing exactly that for decades.

It took 3 days and several hundreds of corpses in Kano in 1980, including assistance from the Nigerian Airforce before the Maitatsine contagion was put out there...until they struck again 2 years later.

They also nearly killed a millitary governor some 4 years later.

Those dudes were mad, and not funny. Like I said, they did not have the arms and the access to training that today's Bokoist has

I agree that Islam has its issues...but Islam is not a danger to world peace. Man is a danger to world peace. People were being killed brutally for centuries before Islam was even thought about.(The Assyrians...centuries before the muslims came about, used to be the feared beasts of the middle east., for example)

The ideology and scriptures that support jihad and terrorism in Islam are always tools that will be used to create insurgence and reinsurgence throughout all humanity.

The religion is the problem, not the people, cos humans are always malleable depending on who is leading them per time.

I think the US and allies spent more in Afghanistan. All for some resources?
(which resources exactly? I know they have opium. Not sure they have crude Oil.)

How much money has been spent?
The vast majority of spending in Afghanistan has come from the US.

Between 2010 to 2012, when the US for a time had more than 100,000 soldiers in the country, the cost of the war grew to almost $100bn a year, according to US government figures.

As the US military shifted its focus away from offensive operations and concentrated more on training up Afghan forces, costs fell sharply.

By 2018 annual expenditure was around $45bn, a senior Pentagon official told the US Congress that year.

According to the US Department of Defense, the total military expenditure in Afghanistan (from October 2001 until September 2019) had reached $778bn.

In addition, the US state department - along with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and other government agencies - spent $44bn on reconstruction projects.

That brings the total cost - based on official data - to $822bn between 2001 and 2019, but it doesn't include any spending in Pakistan, which the US uses as a base for Afghan-related operations.

According to a Brown University study in 2019, which has looked at war spending in both Afghanistan and Pakistan, the US had spent around $978bn (their estimate also includes money allocated for the 2020 fiscal year).

The study notes that it is difficult to assess the overall cost because accounting methods vary between government departments, and they also change over time, leading to different overall estimates.

The UK and Germany - who had the largest numbers of troops in Afghanistan after the US - spent an estimated $30bn and $19bn respectively over the course of the war.

Despite pulling out nearly all their troops, the US and Nato have promised a total of $4bn a year until 2024 to fund Afghanistan's own forces.

So far this year, Nato has sent $72m worth of supplies and equipment to Afghanistan.

Some of this money has been lost to waste, fraud and abuse over the years.

In a report to the US Congress in October 2020, the watchdog responsible for the oversight of reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan estimated that about $19bn had been lost this way between May 2009 and December 31, 2019.

What about the human cost?
Since the war against the Taliban began in 2001, there have been more than 3,500 coalition deaths, of which more than 2,300 have been US soldiers.

A further 20,660 US soldiers have been injured in action.

This is an agreement between USA and Taliban.

The USA is broke, they can't sustain the war or rebuild the country since the tribes are loyal to Taliban.

Option left is pretend to withdraw and allow Taliban take over. Looks better than USA handover power to Taliban directly.

The USSR also had to withdraw from Afghanistan in the 80s.

Basically, USA mis calculated. There was no Afghan among the 911 hijackers. It was a stupid and senseless attack on Afghans becos of Osama.

It is not the job of the UN to overthrow governments. The UN sends in peacekeepers whose job is to be the local police, the local border force, and the local NGO till there is a stable enough situation in the wartorn area.

I agree with u that d US decision to leave was untimely. I think it's a bit selfish because they aren't really getting anything economically from Afghanistan. If Afghanistan was Saudi or Kuwait, they wouldn't rush out like that. They are being pennywise, pound foolish. On d other hand, d afghan political elite were too nonchalant about d situation of d country expecting that d US would never leave. They weren't willing to do more in securing d country themselves.

Well, the US did not pay attention to Afghanistan until 9/11..and they only did so because Osama was operating from and having a free training base in the country

Infact the US was kind of patient. 9/11 wasn't the first Al qaeda attack or attempted attack on the USA.

How on earth do you think Boko Haram can penetrate the borders of non Muslim countries to fight Jihad? Are you for real?

If the 12 northern Nigeria’s sharia states did not adopt Islamic sharia criminal laws, there’s no way Boko Haram could have risen up in the north, talk less, gain too many grounds like now.
FYI, Nigeria’s armed forces armed with mere cutlasses are capable of defeating Boko Haram in one month, if not for the sabotage of the armed forces by insiders sympathetic to what Boko Haram is fighting for.

25 years ago, if they told any Nigerian that Boko Haram would be a thing in Nigeria, you would probably laugh it off. But now look at the country, fighting Boko Haram for over a decade, while most of them are now labelled as "bandits" outside the Northeast.

As long as Islamic extremists are in any country, it's only a matter of time before terrorists attempt to take over government. That is their sole aim.

Thank God someone is on the same page as I am. If Nigeria does not divide this decade, expect an Islamic Republic before 2040.

Boko Haram isn't going to take over Nigeria.

The North , and that is the Muslim North, does not like them, the Nigerian Army is bad but not as godawful as the Afghan army (honestly the Afghan Army makes ours look like a first world army self), and they are fighting not just Nigeria, but two or three other African countries. And they don't have troops on ground and the kind of support needed to take over the whole North, talkless of Nigeria.

.

Mr Bush.doc,

You have Boko Haram fighters who are released and absorbed into the army. You have Islamic jihadists shooting down an aircraft.

Keep writing English, by 2031, you would render medical services to a jihadist's wife. I am here to remind you.

Division or not, what I know is that Islamic extremism is a problem. Even among Yorubas there are muslims who could easily join Boko Haram (especially those Ilorin Tebliqs) if brainwashed properly.

In Edo State, Auchi is a majorly Islamic town... We can't keep dividing, but Igbos are always free to leave. If your leaders support your agitation and back it up, I support you guys.

Shalom!
