Nigeria's South-East Towns Deserted, Businesses Shut Despite Suspension Of Sit-at-home Order By IPOB Leader, Kanu

Some major roads in the South-East states of Anambra and Imo remained deserted on Monday while some businesses were also shut in observance of the sit-at-home despite a counter-directive from the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Kanu, the detained IPOB leader, had last Friday through a release by IPOB, suspended the sit-at-home except on court trial days in order not to affect the economic and business lives of the South-Easterners.

Checks by SaharaReporters on Monday morning however revealed that most towns in the South-East still observed the sit-at-home as some major roads were deserted a businesses remained shut.

“Everywhere looks deserted from busy streets to major market roads. One of them is the Aba-Port-Harcourt Road in Abia State. It is quite scanty. No movement,” an observer stated.

The same was noticed along the Onitsha-Owerri Road as people deliberately chose to sit at home.

“Most filling stations are shut in Onitsha, Anambra State this morning. Orlu Road in Imo State is also deserted,” another resident told SaharaReporters.

Aba town in Abia looks like a ghost town while Nsukka in Enugu was also deserted on Monday morning.

“Some business owners and consumers sat at home not necessarily because they love to, but because they don't want to die. Even though IPOB has allowed people to come out, but what about the miscreants and hoodlums waiting for an opportunity to break into shops and loot people’s goods in the name of disobedience?” a resident queried.

SaharaReporters had on Saturday reported that IPOB explained why it suspended the weekly sit-at-home order in the South-East states which it earlier instructed.

The secessionist group had announced a total lockdown of social and economic activities every Monday starting from August 9 in the South-East region of the country.

Speaking on Radio Biafra, IPOB’s executive, Chika Edoziem, had announced the suspension of the action.

Edoziem said the sit-at-home would be declared whenever Kanu would be making appearance in court and not every Monday as earlier directed.

Reacting, the group's media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, had explained that the suspension was a directive from the leader, Kanu.

He said the group had taken into cognizance the concerns expressed by Biafrans all over the world over the suspension of the sit-at-home directive.

He, however, stated that should there be another directive from the group's highest command requiring a reactivation of the suspended weekly sit-at-home, there would be no hesitation to lift the suspension.

The statement reads, “The suspension of the sit-at-home by the IPOB Head of Directorate was as a result of a direct order from the leader of this great movement, Nnamdi Kanu.

“There is no gainsaying the fact that one of the major fundamental guiding principles of IPOB is command and control. This simply means that all commands from the supreme leader of IPOB will be obeyed and implemented to the latter by the Directorate of State of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

“Bearing in mind therefore that this principle has enabled this movement to surpass even the expectations of both Biafrans and non-Biafrans alike, the leadership wishes to encourage Biafran to focus on the most pressing issue confronting this great family presently which is ensuring the safety of our leader while still in the illegal custody of the DSS and to secure his unconditional release from detention.

“In accordance with the directive from our leader, our sit-at-home will in the meantime be observed on the date of our leader’s court appearances.”

Who is ruling anybody with fear?
Keep crying over nothing.Bother about your region & leave ours to us.Your numerous dull propaganda against ipob is stale and baseless.Biafrans know the reality within them.
We love ipob.We love Nnamdi Kanu.Anything we decide to do is our decision. We decide to observe sit-at-home for the sake of Nnamdi Kanu.
There are numerous problems facing Nigeria since your Buhari assumed office and Ipob isn't one of them.So if you want to keep deceiving yourself because of your Buhari or political/tribal affiliation, you can keep deceiving yourself till eternity,no one cares!

Business will gradually pick up as people get the operational mode. The sit at home will be announced at certain times especially when our IPOB leader will be in court. There's no cause for alarm. If we all move together, there's nothing we can't achieve. Our enemies will run away and victory will be ours.
God Bless MNK
God Bless ESN
God Bless IPOB
God Bless Biafra.

What Igbos/ipob don't know is that they ended up shooting themselves on their feet.

The average Igbo man especially civil servants and office workers will be praying for KANU to remain in govt custody so they will continue observing Monday sit at home knowing fully well that the moment KANU is released, the sit at home will stop.

Who is doing who @ Igbo people/ ipob?

The FG should handle this IPOB issue in a smart way. More Igbos have been brainwashed by IPOB. Both the educated and uneducated ones are getting brainwash.

Who is doing who @ Igbo people/ ipob?

Igbo people and ipob are both doing Nigeria because there will be no economic activity in the whole south East and billions will be lost to the federation account for that particular day

Modified:

@mannabbqgrillz, now for your own issue as our resident 'darling daddy' crooner on nairaland, i would like to understand where your allegiance lies betwixt the following entities as concerns our ;

1. your political party (APC)

2. your country (NIGERIA)

3. your president (PMB aka bubu) or

4. your stomach (aka manna grilling business)

you see, the reason i ask is because if i remember correctly, as far back as 2015 the multitude was feeling your vibes here on NL because most people knew GEJ and his PDP government was terrible and likened to a 'waste pipe' funnel in the nations treasury where every tom, dick and harry could steal and embezzle trillions with full confidence without fear of consequences or repercussions. that was the major reason the majority wanted GEJ out of aso rock, every other governmental shortcoming was somehow manageable because the citizenry had a fair foothold on issues that mattered to they themselves directly concerning their own well being as at that time. in essence the people of Nigeria were 'suffering and smiling' as was the curse that Fela once said was the bane of our society.

at that time you made posts praising the new governmental structure of the country and commending the new president which most were happy with, thereby amassing a huge followership and you had your likes and shares pouring in by the hundreds. that time we all looked forward to your snippets with zeal because we thought you were like most who were happy with the new direction the nation was being steered and commended you for your seemingly selfless encouragements towards the new government.

you went ahead with your praise singing well into the following years right up to the attempt for a second tenure by PMB even amidst the glaring failure of the government of the day which was audible to the deaf and visible to the blind. things were going from bad to worse at an alarming speed and the entity called Nigeria started hanging on a precipice. the time for a new election came and one way or another PMB was voted back into aso rock. many were happy with his victory then but most were sad because there were hushed rumours of rigging in some quarters. you on the other hand were overjoyed and resumed posting congratulatory messages and accolades for the elected president. everyone thought you were just another faceless forumite who wished the country well.

that was, until the day we found out you were actually a political stooge carrying the APC party card and most of our eyes became clear.

so i ask again, what is your mission here on nairaland? nowadays i notice you do not attack threads which reveal rots with a select camp of the nations political elite, you have become igbophobic because you make zuch long posts as above because you noticed the perpetrator of the crime hails from the south east (this is not the first time you are doing this), you attack separatists threads with literary venom (especially ipob and oduduwa) but leave your usual subtle prayer points on bandits and boko haram carnage threads, you never admit to any fault attributable to the ruling party concerning the nations economy no matter how glaring it is, even when your own benue state people are massacred you feign ignorance and skip the thread totally, e.t.c i could go on and on but i will stop here

so i ask you again Philip Terungwa Dav aka Mannabbqgrillz, what is your motive or aim operating here within usual everyday people on nairaland? you have lost so much relevance in such a small time due to your myopic support for your political party even to the detriment of your people.

in fact, i am sorry for you

A week or so ago, some businesses and people who refused to sit-at-home were attacked and vandalized. There was even report of at least one person killed. People don't want to die so they are forced to sit-at-home. Even when ipob is saying the order has been rescinded, people are not willing to risk their lives and property. If MOST Igbos support Kanu's IPOB then IPOB will not need to threaten violence to make them comply. Simple logic. But some people are allergic to logic.
