Security wise, if something is going on at the front of the gate, people on both blind sides can't see (Be it good or bad).
A child running across suddenly can be hit by a silly/drunk driver speeding
A car coming out of the blind spot without checking can be hit or hit a speeding bike etc.

I know these aren't things that happen all the time, but they can happen.

n3xt:

What are the disadvantages if I may ask?

I have a similar arrangement.

For Learning Purpose.

I grew up in Oke Bola, Ibadan and live in the same street with a professional welder who has been handling the construction of all doors (steel works) in ALL the banks in the Ibadan Central Business District (Dugbe) for over 4 decades now.
So I have a first-hand information on how these doors are built and properly insulated.

As a matter of fact, the welder is the only welder working on vault doors for CBN and some other banks in Ibadan as far as I can remember.

________

The cheapest way to insulate a door to eliminate creaky noise is to use Polyurethane Spray Foam to fill the cavities and hollow space in the core of the door.
PU is one of the best material for acoustical and thermal insulation.

It’s readily available in the market between N2,500 - N4,000

You can also talk to a refrigerator technician on how to get these foam. It’s the same thing they use for fridge and deep freezers.

_______

There are other options. BRB

Additionally I have used fine sand in the past in the USA, but you need industrial hinges. It will deaden hollow sound and offer some armor protection. Maybe a .22, definitely not a .357 cheesy

Yeah! There are variety of options for different types of door especially based on their application (Fire door, Vault etc)

The okay thing I can’t share here is the security part because this guy is still in business handling the security doors of the financial institutions.

Not a biggie. I don't think anyone here needs to know how to make bank vaults on this thread grin

I was going to do a vault like door for my safe room but I opted for a secret door book case.

Can this be used within flat roof that used steel trusses and what are the cons/pros?

I believe the disadvantages of this kind of fenced in gate is more than the advantages, I may be wrong though. (looking at it from the security aspect).

Beautiful looking gate you've got there.

I am equally interested in the disadvantages. I am beginning to jettison the idea of full 'caged' gate.

Thanks.

Edit

Seen your above response. wink

This particular door is expensive because all the materials used are wrought iron.

The skyblue paint is the natural color of the pan. It's also used in making gates

A different type of insulation material is used for flat roofs.

This depends largely on what you’re trying to achieve.

You’re very right on security but all these concerns can be addressed with good planning.

__________

I go for a design like this because that spot creates a hidden boundary that triggers a warning tone when local wolves wanders near my house. I have annoying alarms.

Also, I want to keep vehicle off the main road as much as possible in my builds.
Though this is not a concern for now but I’ve seen people waiting 60 - 120 seconds on the main road for their security guy to open their gate. I’ve also seen people having their gate open directly to a major road years after they’ve complete their build because there’s road expansion/upgrade.

Lastly, you’d never know how important it is to have a ample space between your gate and the main road until you need to bring a big truck into a property built in an area with a very small access road.

_______

PS: My driveway design is kinda different from the one shared though as it’s on a cornered plot and I have a window on one side of the fence.

Well, what you listed are the advantages which still keeps the disadvantages alive.

That’s what you think. I can source all the materials used here from building materials secondhand dealers.

I got some nice 1980 louvred windows with some 25mm iron burglar bars for just N4,700 2 months ago.

When polished and sprayed, you can achieve the above without breaking bank.

I see. Unfortunately, a big wide ocean limits my ability to personally do what you have ably done. I would appreciate details of artisans that could do this however.

Thanks.

The full thread is https://www.nairaland.com/1410552/security-armored-doors-burglary-proofs and worth reading if you're in that stage of building.

I'm not sure if he's still selling doors and gates but back when he was still posting he was very good at educating us.

I am still very much around around oga mi smiley. More gates, doors and windows are being uploaded constantly.

Hi Fam,

I need this exact board color (HDF) for my kitchen cabinet. The furniture man said I can can't get it that it is custom made for interior decorators. Please, how true is it. Also, can I get it from anyone here?

I am also searching for a particular colour, a darker shade of gray. I have been touring different markets in the East to find the exact colour.

Check out Aframero in Ikeja, Lagos for custom boards and furniture accessories. This is for those who want class and taste.

I’ve been using them since 2011. I stumble on their thread here sometimes in 2016 https://www.nairaland.com/3309799/modern-home-kitchen-wardrope-accessories

You can reach them online or visit their Ikeja office.

I understand.

Unfortunately, I don’t have anyone I can recommend on this. I just get into the market and work with any smart guy (young or old) I found operating in that line of business.

I show him my idea and look for ways to make it work.

Bros, do not fall for any cheap cajole. The good thing about your business is that it is an artistic trade and requires some talent and years of commitment to master.
Keep your competitive advantage to yourself, do not feel pressured to disclose it.

Your response was in order.

A month or so ago, on this same thread I had asked to know how people use their money to finance clients project without being hurt. The answer I got was “I don’t not have to explain anything to you “ with an attitude. That is the precedent most have set here ( minus Oga Next) . It has come back to hunt them.

Regarding the door you made which they are still using to spite you, let me know if it’s rejected. I will pay full amount to have them without questions.

About a week ago, i ask this question and got a positive feedback that its ok... Well, the guy strated work on tuesday, he was paid 20k at d end of the day, to balance 25k at d end of his work, got a guy beside my site to help monitor him and i paid him 5k, just to monitor.. My digger no show face since he finish work on tuesday.. Hes not picking his call.. Someone saw him and they ask him why he has not gone to finish his work, he told them the ground is too hard... I gave this guy d job because i saw d work he did for some people, just about 10 mins walk from my site... I am saying this to let you know that artisan and nigerians generally are increasingly having this mindset of NOTHING GO HAPPEN... We need them (i cant dig soakaway even if you give me one year), we must devise a new method to face this new challenge, its increasingly worrisome.

Hallelujah, after some initial setback, oga don finally come finish him job and he did a perfect work, he got some tips too. 12 by 8..depth is 10

Yes! For those who want something better than slap and fix grin

As a matter of fact, they produce made-to-measure cabinet and wardrobe doors.
So you cannot actually build your custom kitchen like you do abroad.

________
They don’t do norms at Aframero.
You configure your furnitures to your taste and budget.
