Some of the banks have succeeded in ruining the life of many of our youth in the name of contract and they fail to convert them even after they have Bsc and M.Sc. the CBN ought to do something. Imagine someone working 12 years still on 81k salary

Some banks have a policy not to convert. Acquire phd sef, they won’t take you.
12 years on 81k with a masters is really really poor. That person should look elsewhere o.

Banking wasn't really my thing but I worked with first bank for 3 months after 3 months of TS. I have guys working in various banks too (branches, Head offices and other back offices). It was a very good experience and ever since then I've been an advocate for bank jobs especially to those who jettison them. No need wasting your time and getting old. If you're young and have 2.1 and above, kick-start your career. Save money to pursue other life dreams, at least Canada can be achieved in 3 to 5 years.

P/S1: Some head office roles are soft work but in my opinion, the meat of banking is marketing (RMs in retail, commercial or coperate). You get more bonuses, networks, know about business of your customers and learn about managing money/investments, plus some time to run your stuff.

P/S2: Generally, entry roles in financial services, audit, insurance, etc can be get way roles so young graduates of all disciplines shouldn't undermine them. Take that marketing/sales position. At least, in 3 to 12 months you would have learnt one or two things and improve your life.

The joke is on you if you think bankers (Full time role o) are broke.

Most bankers are broke especially the core staff. Most of them dab into what is more than them. They live on taking loans and servicing the loans.

Oga they are broke to my standard...Always begging subtly in the banking hall, Even the full staff that manage my account...

I lend them money on monthly basis! Stop acting as if bankers were rich people...They are broke ass, living on loan and upfront allowances...

God bless you sir/ma. Not all of them but most. You just hit the hammer on the nail.
God bless unlimited.

Many Banker are financially reckless. I know one then that collect loans from different money lenders and even from colleagues to sustain his life style. It was after I borrowed him money that I began to hear all his escapades.

Imagine collecting loan just to travel abroad for holidays

So on point. I know one in my work place.

I don't know any banker who is in debt.
Instead they have investments.
As a banker, you'll get the cheapest cost of borrowing from your bank.
Peole like the Dangotes and Otedolas also get cheap loans.
Then staff of multinationals Like ExxonMobil, Shell, etc.
Followed by Regular employed staff of other notable companies/recognised business people.
Lastly Civil servants
Market women/traders should go deal with MFBs.

The loan is very enticing to take if you have a well thought out venture to use it for not MBA. cry

There are hardly any jobs out there.
When i graduated, i started out as a security guard. Grab any legit job you see out there and use it as a launch pad.
Being a graduate and a contract staff at the same time is not a bad thing at all. the pay is not all that bad. do not see being a contract staff as being the final stop. aim higher and prepare to be there (because it is not enough to just aim).
. I agree with you and love your endurance .Is this situation the reason for crime in banking sector? It is a major reason for it. Job satisfaction is elusive for many in the sector.

HSS - Head Service Support.
They are in charge of the operations in a bank branch outlet.

In a branch outlet, you have tellers, Customer Service Officers (CSO's), ATM custodian, Asset Custodian and HSS.
The branch size and performance determines the number of these people (roles).
but there can only be 1 HSS, 1 Asset custodian and 1 Branch manager.

Branch managers are the head of the branch and are in charge of everything sales. He oversees the RM's (relationship managers and marketing team, Direct Sales Agents (DSA's).

Hss are next in command and they manage operations and everybody in the line (CSO's in some cases, we also have Team Leads Customer service (TLs CSO's), tellers, Asset and ATM custodians).

A thief will always be a thief. There is no coloring or beautifying anything.
If you are not contented with what you have, you will always have the tendency to steal. On why they steal? they steal because they are simply thieves. Ojukokoro
And there are always systems in place to mitigate this risk. They are always caught eventually.

Job satisfaction is elusive for many in the sector.
For job satisfaction, hmmm. i cannot readily say. Most people join the industry because there are no jobs out there not because they have the passion for it. The same banking industry and financial sector these people don't see job satisfaction, others wake up happy and fulfilled to go to work. It's a 2 way street.
Some people have the passion for it.
For me, i came with a plan. So far, i am satisfied with my job. Whenever i have grieviances, i escalate to through the necessary channels and these are resolved. When i have met my goals, i may decide to leave. If i feel uncomfortable or the place becomes too toxic and messes with my mental health (which i don't see happening anytime soon), i will dust my bags and say adieu!

Hi. I've been following your comments since and I find it that you're very knowledgeable both on the books and street wise.

How can I invest in the agricultural sector. What are the requirements? I have a dollar account already. What's next? I'm a farmer. I'm into animal husbandry and I want to expand into crops as well.

You've done well bro.

Been off here for a little while. Had to catch up from page 2 or so.

You vibe is not from this clime bro. The average Nigerian (to some extent African) hoards knowledge particularly about matters like this. Most are insecure and feel that by sharing info, one is positioning others to take their place.

Saw you once worked as a security guard shocked ... You don't sound like what you've been through though. grin

Nice insights from everyone who has contributed. An educative thread indeed.

My tactics are quite different. It may not favor you. I’d advice you go through the agriculture threads and find something you feel is worth the risk.
For me, I have a couple of folks at the village. During a new season, I send them money to acquire (rent) a couple of acres of farmland. Everything from felling to burning to planting and laborers fees, I pay for it. Since they live in the village, they just monitor my farm and the progress alongside theirs.
They plant everything. Corn, melon, yam, cassava, plantain, pepper etc.
When it’s harvest time, I sell it. I ain’t got time to start harvesting. For instance, I could sell only the cassava in the farmland and only the cassava will be uprooted. Everything else is left.
I do same to the melon and everything else.
At the end of the day I do my maths. Selling only the melon can cover Cost of setting up everything in all the acres. Everything else that is sold is free money. grin I could sell an acre of only cassava for 200k. It’s quite cheap because whoever gets to uproot the cassava for processing to garri or fufu will make over 500k.
It’s a win-win.
I could give the proceeds of the corn as apprenticing to my folks who monitored the whole process.

There is money (blood money) in agriculture.
What’s better, they’re no Fulani herdsmen in my village. This is my tactics/template. And it has always worked well for me.

Stanbic GT is from 350.
if you are a contract staff with them who just got converted and you have less than 2 years, You're given BTA 1 (Banking transaction assistant). The salary band max is 190k.

If you are a contract staff with them with 2 years or more experience and you get converted, you're given BTA 2.
the salary band max is about 280k.

these salaries are also dependent on the location you are posted to. If you are posted to back office operations, you earn more than people posted to branches.
This is asides appraisal bonus every march and profit sharing. 12 month salary and other benefits.

stanbic converts their contract staff. if you are not more that 33 if i recall correctly. they dont accept HND. if you have HND you will have to convert it to bsc.

Wema bank's case must be the absolute worst, cos they hardly do conversions for their contract staff. The ones i know have been on the same job role for over 4 years, no salary increment, no conversion. And they are the ones working weekends o...it's crazy.

Hi.
Sorry i just saw this.
For a GT role, i am afraid this is not possible.
For experienced hire, there is a possibility.
Please check Stanbic career portal. there are a couple of roles there (CSO's, ATM Custodian) that require 0-2 years experience.
You could give it a shot.
I wish you all the best!
