Donbrig: Bank staffs don't care about your investments with them, many of them don't know much about bonds or mutual funds or financial markets, they are only after their monthly salaries.
You should equip yourself with enough informantions, walk into their office and tell them what you want with confidence.
Sometimes, you just put yourself in disadvantage asking bank staffs some certain questions about investments, because they don't know much and don't want to show their financial ignorance before a customer, they will just tell you something that will make you uncomfortable and leave their office to other branch or bank.
Correct. Always better to meet with the bank manager or the investment departments of big branches 9 Likes |

QueenNemesis: Good day everyone.
I am a 300 level student in a Fed Uni and what happened right now is just very funny and I think I need solid financial advice from the investment experts here. Everyone should please endeavour to contribute.
A distant uncle called me about a month ago that he has a connect to a FG grant and requested for my details. Immediately I heard that, I quickly forwarded him my BVN and other bank details. He later called me to inform me I have been registered.
Fast forward to about a week later. . .He then called me and started explaining that the stuff is a actually a LOAN not a GRANT and that his connect will take back 40% of it after I am credited. Immediately, I was confused. Because I am still a student and that kind of risk does not make any sense. Actually, if he had told me it was a LOAN initially I wouldn't have sent my details. I told him instantly that I am not interested in the package anymore since it is a LOAN and to even add salt to injury, one facilitator will demand 40% of it because he made it happen. Nah me and am go repay am?
About 5 days later, I got an SMS from NMFB that my loan has been approved and I should follow a link, input my details and get credited. I ignored this message and went about my business. A week after, I got another message from the same NMFB that they have created a NISRAL account or something for me. I was a bit confused and perplexed because I did not click on their link because I am not interested in their loan. I checked my account balance to reassure myself and it showed that no money was credited and I was a bit relieved.
Now, just about 20 minutes ago. I got a whopping 700k alert from NMFB for a loan I don't want.
The question I need to ask you elders is : What next for me?
- Buy a tricycle and give to a rider? Because Obviously I can't drive it because I am a student
- Buy a piece of land and wait for it to appreciate
- Buy bitcoin and hold
- Buy dollars and keep
- jejely return the loan (I don't even know how to go about this!) - others? (Please specify)

Have you seen the loan offer document. It is possible the loan is about N1.5 million or there about, but you were credited 700k. You will be expected to pay interest on the correct amount. I will escalate this issue and return back the money ooooo. That is what I will do, with your BVN you are going nowhere. I was surprised, how a property lawyer was able to get 850k debt a tenant owed by just getting the necessary approval from a Magistrate court and the tenants BVN 10 Likes |

I did not see any loan offer document infact the approval of the loan is quite silly because I did not accept the Loan Offer after I was approved And ofcourse, I am aware I will repay that is why I am not treating it as free money. I was hoping that a passive investment strategy can be suggested for me that will eventually be capable of repaying the loan and leave a little change for me. If anyone knows how I can access the loan offer document. I don't mind. 1 Like |

Like I said on another thread, it's like someone setting your house on fire and then telling you the reason your house is burning is because your neighbor uses a heater.... No need arguing over this....just like others, lets give it some months and see the effect Like I keep saying, as far as some people have access to a cheaper forex rate for whatever reason, the naira is guaranteed to continue in decline. This has been the case for the past 40 years and will continue to be the case. I wish you the best ooooo Sir, I am not saying there isn't the possibility that the facilitator might have diverted a % of it, but the chances of it is very slim. I was directly credited by the NMFB. Also, the agreement the guy had with my uncle was that I will pay him after I have been credited (which I won't do!). But I understand your concerns sir. Your final suggestion is I return the money?? So freezing account of fintechs is just another futile attempt by empty heads leading a collapsing zoo. I guess its okay to send your kids abroad, go for pilgrimage or medical tourism. But fintechs that have brought in more FDI than the FG in the past year are responsible for the Naira's decline. Yet these same regulators would not be swift in freezing the account of ponzi schemes that are fleecing Nigerians. I want to believe they are acting in good faith, so let's see how this plays out 4 Likes |

For every loan, there must be an application letter, offer letter, acceptance of offer and actual disbursement. The offer letter would state the loan amount, interest rate applicable and duration. Even though you may not be aware, all these documents were procured in your name and I suppose that the BVN requested for is the collateral. Where you are unable to repay this loan facility according to the payment terms then default charges would accrue. A lot of people see the NIRSAL loan as free money and national cake being that it's from the government but I assure you that it is not. My advise to you is to write a letter to the bank MD documenting what transpired and requesting them to reverse the transaction since you are not interested. Ensure you get a duly acknowledged copy for yourself. This should keep you free from any liabilities but it would cause bad blood between you and your uncle. My two cents QueenNemesis: Good day everyone.
