Hello Engrs

I have a proposed building with a span of about 50m, a terrace building containing six units of flats. The proposed foundation system is raft beam with wide strip. What is the best way to introduce an expansion joint in the structure ?

You don't need an expansion joint

[s]Was going to ask why and who recommend it?[/s]

Edit:

Sorry i just saw the OP’s message

Six terrace building? I’ll introduce it at interval of 2 unit or 30m interval if not 6 units of terrace building but larger.

I started with fire retardant paint production through partnership with foreign companies and they gave me the necessary technical support.
I had formulation for different types of paints and when intercolor was among the very few supplying basecoat which they import then, I was already producing and supplying basecoat.
I met and discussed with some well known paint brands to partner but it didn't work out and when the demand for the fire retardant paint was low, I switched to regular paint since the materials are mostly the same without the active components.
I got some former workers from paint companies to help produce with my formulations and tried local sourcing of materials.
When I started producing satin paint over a decade ago, most of the budget range paint companies don't produce them. Only the big brands and agents importing the american brands. That was how I got to have my satin and eggshell substituted and later replaced with the foreign products by a marketer of the company importing them to her network base.
I produced for N2500 per gallon she later convinced her clients her brand is equally as good at slightly lower price and they have been using it for sometime already. A gallon of behr, benjamin Moore and ralp Lauren they sell was N8000 per gallon then.
I think I could say I was foreign trained and my biochemistry background helped to some extent.
I could still formulate paints with uncommon features in Nigeria market.
I bet you don't get to see wax based water repellant paint in the market.
Intreating, many of us that have used your paint many times, never cross our mind to asked you this question. You paint still looks as if we just painted it after 5 years. Bravo to your products. I still the save mine Kobo kobo for the other projects.

Yes, East of the Niger, Cutix has been reigning as the undisputed champion in cables, nearly 40 years and still going strong.
Oga are their prices pocket friendly compared to other brands in Lagos?

On many occasions, the cost of cutix is higher than many other brands in the market.

Tbh, I’ve seen homes in naija.

There’s a limit to what we can share online though. Much respect to David Adjaye. His signature is written all over the building.

The reaction below though undecided

Would you know what building stairway safety code in Nigeria is? It looks like those stairs are are too high not to have rails. 3 steps should be the maximum without rails (regardless of the height).

I can understand confidentiality. Safety above everything because we have loose nuts amongst the populace.

I think 900mm for commercial. I’m in transit. I’ll check the building code and share later.

If it's a rectangular building, you can have up to 100 meters without expansion joint. This 30m rule is arbitrary in the Nigerian environment. Please, refer to the publication by the national academies of sciences & engineering: expansion joints in buildings: technical report No.65. figure 1.

Is the internal and external screeded.
The quantity shouldn't be an issue so far you have the measurements. I have been adequately tutored here on giving proper quantity required from measurement.
If the internal is not screeded, you may use regular emulsion. If it's not screeded and you want a smooth, flat finish that can be cleaned, you may prime and use matte, satin or silk depending on your budget and preference for sheen. As long as the plastering is neat and smooth. Otherwise you may want to screed if you want the flat paint with sheen.
Same goes for the external. You may use premium grade emulsion for the external if not screeded. If screeded, you may use matte or silk. If not screeded and you want the paints aforementioned, you may prime it first.

You can't sandpaper the external plaster except you want to prime or screed before you sandpaper it.
