mank1234: Napoleon55: I appreciate your opinions, but let's see who's misleading who. Let's use the case of Iheanacho. In the early embers of June 2020, when Kelechi was languishing in the back benches of the Leicester squad, I made the statistical interpretation that Iheanacho needed just more gametime to flourish as one of the league's best. But just like you both, the great Sir komekn rubbished this as " delusional and convolated manipulation of statistics." Now 14 months later, ask yourself: Is Iheanacho a convoluted manipulation of stats? Or was he a diamond in the rough waiting to bloom? Now tally your response to Henry Onyekuru. 11 Likes 3 Shares

You may be right that he's star and will bloom soonest but comparing to others in the manner you did is the error. You're assuming that because he did X in Y min, then he'll do 2X in 2Y min. You can't say because a player comes in, on his debut, at 80min and scores 2 goals that the player has better stats than Messi and Ronaldo? For the records, Obafemi Martins first 120min was better - 3 goals. First against Ireland (unity Cup) in 2004 coming on as a sub and 2 more against Rwanda (world cup qualifier) in 2004. In both games he was outstanding and the darling of all fans not just me. Can same be said of your superstar? TheLoneCitizen: 1 Like 1 Share |

We finish third on the medal table with 4 gold and 3 Bronze in the U-20 World Athletics Championship. Kudos to the athletes and coaches for the good outing. Hopefully the AFN will continue to nurture our athletes for a good outing in Paris 2024. Let's not give up on these talented youngsters! 1 Like |

mank1234: You're reiterating my stance, all right, brother: Goal per game alone is not indicative of quality at all. Paco Alcacer had one of the best goal ratio at Dortmund, where is he today? When assessing quality, you have to marry different characteristics to arrive at a conclusive analysis. This was the case with Iheanacho. A combination of his goal per game rate, link-up play, conversion rate, ability under pressure, aeriel prowess, ball control... brought me to the conclusion that he was better than his return showed, not just one stat. But most importantly, I watched him live because not every feature (like movement) goes on paper. For the case of Onyekuru, I never said he is the best winger ever. No. Someone opined that Victor Moses was Nigeria's most productive or efficient winger of all time. But statistics show that, Onyekuru takes that accolade by a long mile. 1 Like |

TheLoneCitizen: Onyekuru is quite different from most wingers we have produced,to be honest... He is a Mane type of player... except that he doesn't seem to have the kind of work rate and off the field dedication that Mane has... In the few times Rohr has given him a chance in the team,he has performed... 1 Like |

zoboizee: We can do it at least in football. Maybe in track and field but i am sure of football. As per football, all we need is grassroots football and football academies and that is all. Grassroots football is growing. Too many football academies in Nigeria. in fact, the surulere league is going on right now. Secondly, we are a footballing country and so we have a footballing culture and history to fall back on. For example, cricket is the main sport in India and so they can easily dominate that sport. We are a historical football country and dominating football is organic to us and we do not have to force it like the Chinese are trying to do. In fact, right now there is a Nigerian teenager in the Bayern world team (Daniel Francis Dada) and so many talents are being discovered at grassroots level. Also, add the diaspora Nigerians that we can tap into and we have a powerful combination. We have that history and pedigree and all we have to do is build on it and some structures are being built. I mean there is Vandrezzar fc which is run like a professional club also, Barcelona and as roma have their academies in Nigeria. We have had, still have and will continue to have Nigerian stars that are at least up to standard (i dont want to mention names). Dominating football is not alien to us. I leave in Ibadan and i live near the house Mutiu Adepoju built for his father and i know Yekini's house in Ibadan Football is tiwantiwa to us. We can do it and i like the modalities been put in place |

Yes you are right read somewhere that the lady got a scholarship to Baylor. The guy is American born. What impresses me about him is even though he's just 18 he's already run 20.13! (unfortunately it wasn't officially recognized due to excess wind). Even the 20.21 he ran in the final is quite fast for someone his age. Hopefully the glory days of athletics in Nigeria is back.
