-Adding a delete button so users can delete posts without waiting for mods .

-Addition of like and share buttons (Also Allow us to see who liked and share our post and comments)

-Reducing the content displayed on home page . Really , only the most trending topics in Nigeria should be on the home page , all the rest should be filtered out .


- Emojis should be updated


- Content regulation : Reduction Spam on the trending and recent pages .
hashtags and strings that compile the most trending topics . A mute button could also be added so that a user can mute certain Nairalanders and not view their posts


-User profile Should be updated too. Picture upload should be added to at least see who we're talking to . Where the person resides within Nigeria and employment status should be added so we can get a background sense of other NL users.

Back end:
- Improve Search algorithm. It would be better if all search results are directly related to the keywords searched and the most relevant should be displayed first . For example , if I search ingredients for egusi soup , the search results should include search results for egusi soup ingredients directly , rather than results for ingredients , for , egusi and soup

- Deleting of threads and comments should be added in order to remove unnecessary , outdated or old unused threads .

- Saving or Pinning threads should be added . Thinking about this , this is similar to the follow option . However , pinning would allow users pin a specific part of the thread , not follow or get updates on the whole thread

- private messaging. NL connects nigerians but nowadays , most connections are made on private chats . Its easier and faster to communicate with someone directly on the site rather than through e mail

-Private tagging . Please Introduce the @ function like on Twitter so that if I want seun to see this post i can just @seun's moniker. I should not need to reply a persons comment in order to mention , I could just use the @ function , like Twitter or WhatsApp . And its doesn't have to be @ , it could be # or another symbol

- File sending when commenting should have a little bit more features like editing for pics etc

-A poll/ election should be conducted when choosing mods and mods should have a tenure to prevent abuse of authority .
An investigation should be carried out to see how possible mods ban users they dont agree with under disguise of spam bot. Mods should never be able to do it.

2. Auto detection and deletion of porn, and auto ban of posters especially on front page news.

3. Multiple NL accounts should be discouraged. A way out is to introduce accounts verification.

4. Auto deletion of advertising posts or solicitation of fund of non verified accounts. This will curb scammers. They always have multiple accounts, but they will never want to use their verified accounts. Anyone who transact business with unverified accounts is at higher risk of being scammed. Not a guarantee to assure all that fraud will be reduced to zero, but it will go a long way.

Considering how long Nairaland has been around , its userbase should be around 10m+. Nairaland can even be competing with social media platforms in Nigeria . But not like this , some issues have to have fixed

Yes . Nairaland seems......rigid , static somehow , like its not dynamic .

Someone asked on another thread what should Nairaland do . This was my response.



(first the home page should be redesigned , no need for a long list of latest news , just a few , about 5 to 10 headlines is okay. Then the search algorithm should be worked on . Searching for something on nairaland is like searching for water in a desert . The algorithm should be updated to search for only the given keywords , not every topic and thread containing one of the keywords . Plus , there's no button on Nairaland , some features like share and like can be made better with buttons . Plus emojis . Whatsapp , telegram , FB , they all have customized emojis , but Nairaland , only a green stuff dat looks like vomit.)

5. The share button is very useless
6. Alot of scammers with multiple account...This is where banning their IP address comes in
7. Alot of fake news and spamming on Trending and New Topics page.
8. Trolls have taking over some thread and section, thereby leading people to create a telegram channel instead of using your platform thereby loosing traffic...but i won't mention which.
