Do you know the debts that were strangling them before they finally packed up
In 1997 Nigerian Airways was hanging on by threads.

Because you flew them in Bola Ige's time does not mean all was well... look, if you want a thorough Analysis of the dissolution of Nigerian Airways, it literally crashed in 1995.

To be precise, it was in Buhari's time as a military president that Nigerian Airways started nose diving; between 1984/85 When debts started to rise and safety standards were reduced in a bid to cut costs, more and more of the fleet started getting impounded in Europe and other Countries which drastically reduced the fleet size.
This was followed by an IATA suspension in Babangida's time(1987), which stopped the airlines from plying IATA destinations. Ofcourse with the rising debts and reduced operations to profitable zones, they started downsizing and cutting routes/destinations until they reached a breaking point in 1994.

The only thing Obasanjo's administration didn't do, was try hard to revive it, but it crashed 4 years before the civilian takeover in 1999.

What was operating in the early 2000's was just the corpse of the Nigerian Airways, privatisation attempts were just futile because it was a dead venture.

Airports around the world more than 90% have been concessioned out, even what concerns you with airport & aeroplane? Hope you are not planning a hijack?

Mention the airports build with tax payers money and handed over to private individual to run in trust for the citizen.

Nigerian are the problem of Nigeria....hasty generalization and lopsided facts.

China
UAE
Chile
Russia
Germany
UK
Australia
Finland
Just to mentioned few. Their government are all handling what Nigerian were told not to be government business

Nigeria elects the worst of its citizen to govern them, yet lack the balls to hold them accountable for bad policies that never worked anywhere in the world, they in turn run to churches and mosques to pray away bad governance and poverty.

PHCN is nothing to right home about as we speak
No public portable water
No refuse recycle system
Public communication system is gone
No public transportation system
No social security
No health care system
No educational support system
Not even security of life and property except for the ruling class, police are politicians personal guards

Yet Ignorant majority like you haven't explained to us the business of government.
Virgin Nigeria was before Arik air, no one asked the detail why it was not successful in Nigeria but are still operating profitably in other countries. Even the Arik air under private sector failed less than six years of operation, it now run by the government....Nigeria policies runs in circle.....the go back to what they condemned...after all the infrastructure is our collective property.

Nigeria is a country where fuel subsidy had been totally removed five (5) times
Diesel was deregulated how many years ago but the price never crashed for once as speculated in the policy.

Numerous license had been approved for private individuals in the oil and gas industry yet none has build and operate one successfully as expected....rather they are waiting for their friends to be appointed as a minister so that NNPC can be handed over to them to run personally.
The headline about Dangote's refinery growing debt profile is not even shocking to someone like you........that a collective fund of Nigerians.

Other brilliant minds all around the world makes efficient workable policies that stand the test of time before review but here in Nigeria, ordinary PIB is going to be reviewed even before implementation......I just dey pity the next generation.

Privatization could have been a better option than liquidations. It's alright, that one is now a past tense, let's keep moving forward.

you guys like talking anyhow. talking wíthout any sense. this is what happens when your heart is full of hatred. It make you blind to the good things/opportunities of a situation. Economics 101, government has no business in business. how many countries in the world have a national airways solely owned by that country and being run by it? non. government is all about welfare, not profit. business is about profit. someone or a group can buy the franchise called Nigerian Airways (eg Onyema) and run it as a business with the government owning a minority share so as to have a seat at the board of directors. that is how it is done.
we all know how our airports were before government invested a huge sum of money on them. you had to travel to one country or the other before you could get a flight to UK or US. we cannot continue to invest millions of dollars without results we need the expertise of business professionals in the field to maintain a world standard not that shabby FAAN. FAAN can act as a regulator of the industry but not be in charge of airports. that is how it is done. A yoruba man Ogunlesi owns Gatwick airport.

FAAN killed itself not Sirika . Show me one airport terminal managed by FAAN that is at par or better than any major airport in Ghana , togo , Kenya , Tanzania , Ethiopia , South Africa ot even Niger. Have you ever gone into Lagos airport without being welcomed by a thug or arrived without being welcomed by a thug trying to hustle you to get into his cab. Is that how airports are run globally ? They are just trying to mess Sirika up but we all know that airports are managed by professional airport management companies and FAAN does not have what it takes to manage any airport international airport in Nigeria
