This is what you call base effects, i.e the "base" on which the growth is compared. If you remember 2nd quarter last year the economy was in lockdown so GDP shrank. This is simply measuring 2nd qtr GDP 2021 compared to 2nd qtr GDp 2020 .....ofcourse it is going to be higher, there is hardly a country in the world right now whose Q2 GDP compared to 2020 isnt above 6 %. |

For those saying it is a lie, please note that 5% growth is like a drop in the ocean for a nation with the size and population of Nigeria. Also note that this is economy activities not per capital income which is really a reflection of the quality of life of the citizen of a country |

Re: Nigeria’s Economy Grows 5% In Q2 2021 — Strongest Since 2014 by Ovamboland(m): 2:46pm On Aug 26, 2021 |
huptin: In a recession, one sure way of getting out of it is to spend heavily to restart activities and prevent further contraction of activities in the economy. The funds must come from somewhere, either raising taxes or taking on debt. Raising taxes has its own problem in an economy with good tax system with wide net. Maybe less impact on spending power in a low tax system like in Nigeria with good scope for widened net. It will be counterproductive to cut spending and investment in an economy seeing recession. The strategy to take on debt considering the difficulty and unpredictability of wider tax net. But tax must be collected in the long term to guarantee repayment or servicing of the loans taken. |

Selfmotivated: So a guy who earns 30k last year will call collect 31,500 this year at 5% increase and you expect his life to be transformed overnight? Is 5% increase the rate of returns from blood money? GDP growth rate is not like doing money rituals abeg. |
