Klass99: Just curious, do they still feel the same way? I have three different friends from high profiled political families that left Canada. The guy has returned because despite him getting an oil and gas job, he still felt so much were missing. One of the ladies is enjoying herself with another oil and gas company married to a son of a high profiled politician while I don't have details about the third one. The major challenge in my opinion is that the system isn't working and your investments aren't secured in real terms. 7 Likes |

Ghana is better than Nigeria on soo many levels. But the truth is that Ghana doesn't need Nigerians. Nigerians should learn to stay in their country [s] AlphaLion:[/s] 4 Likes |

Klass99: They left for Nigeria. The guy couldn't deal with the Nigerian situation despite his comfortable lifestyle. In general, I think we all love different things. Some love it just cool and smooth perhaps places like Akure, Abuja and some like it rough and bustling like Lagos. He grew up in the hinterland, lived in Alberta, so I'm sure the Lagos and going offshore thing just wasn't soothing to him. 4 Likes |

AlphaLion: CONTEXT. The "rich" abroad Ghanaian coming back to safer, progressing Ghana, as compared to Nigeria, would THRIVE, unlike your Nigerian friend who came here to HUSTLE. That's what Wunmi's trying to say 2 Likes |

Itzlinda: He works as a disability support worker and aged care support. It means he cares for those who live with disability, some people dont like to do it. But my guy no send. He makes his money, and can use that as capital to set himself up in Ghana for life. He also lives miserly, drives a cheap car, lives in a cheap area. Let's just say he is blessed with delayed gratification, he would rather live like this today and live a good life in his country. 21 Likes 2 Shares |

I have a mixed feeling on my relocation to Nigeria after living in Europe for about 10 years working as an engineer but paying so much in taxes (over 50%). It was also very difficult to save any money from what is left after tax, due to very high housing and living cost. You end up living from hand to mouth because of the numerous bills you have to pay.. I got a job in Nigeria to do thesame type of job I was doing in Europe before relocating, so this made my decision easier. Regrets: Concerned about the insecurity and the fact that nothing works here. I hope to retire in Nigeria in 20 yrs time and hope there would still be a country then. Consolation: I save alot of money working here in Nigeria than I did in Europe. Things are so much cheaper here despite the inflation problem. I made the move mostly because of retirement plans. 39 Likes 2 Shares |

Interesting thread, in every desert there are oasis, some say Port Harcourt is crazy but others prefer it to Lagos. Things can work in Nigeria, we just have to change the mentality. 3 Likes |

Thank you OP. This is what i tell my friends here but trust Nigerians, most have been conditioned to run the rat race. A friend and I are actively doing this. The goal is to retire very early and retire to the Caribbeans, i am not coming to Nigeria. Caribbeans feels closer to Africa and family oriented. We invest actively in stocks, creep-toes and now looking into real estate. I am not conditioned to run the rat race, it makes you very weary and unfulfilled. I hope Nigerians in diaspora can look more into investments that can generate passive income. 28 Likes 1 Share |

without financial independence, it is easy to regret. There can be nostalgia to leave and go back to your country of origin, but i advise financial independence and possibly citizenship to embark on such journeys. A guaranteed $1,000 USD monthly passive income from abroad may imply you are relatively stable to weather the storm while back from abroad, a citizenship with a passport of note may mean you have little to no visa worries and can move/travel to most places at your earliest convenience. 9 Likes |
