We don't tax enough on Nigeria. Over reliance on oil has denied us the streams of revenue that are loaded in taxation.

However, 3 things will encourage citizens from paying taxes: a) taxings the rich heavily, b) accounting for the taxes being paid, c) judicious use of the money for institutional and infrastructural development

The worst thing to do in this life is to tax a Businessman unjustly.
The POS vendors should form an association, pay the tax and increase their charges times 3.

The quality of the Notice can tell you the quality of the people at the Local government. Yet we are all depending on these same people to be forefront agents of grassroots development at the local government level. I am just afraid for the local government system in this country.

That chairman is cussed.
It shall never be well with him.
Isn't this wickedness?
This is exactly why NIGERIA won't move forward. What everyone knows is how to exploit the next person.

first and foremost that letter of notification is just out of it 'too autocratic',

secondly are they dealing with the individuals involved in business or the business?

Bankowner:

spot on, illiterate or rather half baked literate manning sensitive offices. when they never got through due process or credibility, they were not voted but hand picked by same birds of feathers.

what else can be of truth than this, tax paid is meant to have effect on the payer, largely the vulnerable one (aged, widows, unemployed etc). here the reverse is the case.

bro nothing is wrong with taxing business but would the Nigerian System justify the taxation? this is the question, it is high time we start asking this question.

the question here now, is that amount reasonable? what would it be used for? I don't blame the idiot sending out letter but those that enforced him on the people.

it is high time the people decide who leads them, we can do it.

Although that is not bad but the problem is that the money will be going to individual account instead of channel it to something that will benefit society.

ATTENTION TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

RE: ETHIOPE EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL EXTORT POS OPERATORS

It has been brought to the notice of the authority of the Executive Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Council, Rt Hon Pharm Victor Ofobrukueta and his executives over the unwanted act of some individuals who without the authorization of the Local Government Chairman distributed notifications urging POS Operators/owners to pay the sum of #5,000 ( five thousand naira) as revenue.

The Chairman frowned and debunked the allegations in its entirety.

......." I have not authorized anybody or committee to distribute demand notice on POS operators in the local Government Area. Though we believe that little financial contributions from everyone who renders certain services and earned money within the LGA will contribute to the growth and development of the local government we would rather do it within the ambits of the law and without putting more burden on our people. We regret the inconvenience such demand notices might have costs our dear citizens and we have therefore put in place necessary steps to correcting them", he said.

The Chairman was taken aback that the committee went ahead to distribute demand notices without his approval.

Meanwhile, all contributions, suggestions, and ideas geared towards the growth and development of the Local Government should be channelled to: www.ethiopeeastlga.dl.gov.ng

We regret such misleading information as all the members of that Committee are invited to his office to clarify their stance.
