In summary Petrol costs between 300 to 400 naira in all our neighbours Petrol costs 162 naira here Now imagine buying 10 liters of petrol here and taking it across the border to sell ... That's a profit made.Easily. Nothing like loss at all. Guaranteed 100% And everyone from the rich to the poor is cashing out. Another reason for oil subsidy to go. We cannot be subsiding fuel for ecowas region. Modified Anyone who calls me an apc supporter because i support fuel subsidy removal should think again. I havr supported fuel subsidy removal for over ten years. Even when Buhari was marching for it to remain in 2012. Because i know we lose billions of dollars from it. Not because I want to oppress Nigerians. We lose billions from fuel subsidy and lose jobs. And we subsidise fuel for other African countries Is that right? 19 Likes

solja147: Goverment does not support it. The smuggling is happening because fuel is far more expensive in neighbouring countries than it is in Nigeria So anyone buying fuel in Naija and selling it in Cameroon, Niger and Benin is going to earn a profit of N130 per liter sold. The only way you can stop that is by removing subsidy or by closing the border and building a thick 100 foot wall around Nigeria. And goverment dont like it because they end up subsidising fuel for other african countries. It's a waste 5 Likes 1 Share |

The APC wrestled power away from the PDP even when they were very clueless about Governance. They never had a roadmap/Blueprint whatsoever. When Buhari was shouting "Diversification of the Economy ", he thought it's by giving Rice farmers loan only The APC immediately after assuming power should have made it a priority to fix Our Refineries and Complete the Ajaokuta Steel project( We won't be talking about these anymore). But because they were clueless, they were not even sure if their policies/actions will work, they just try senseless policies and wait to see the ripple effects after which they try another archaic policy, all of which keeps failing. 90-95% of Industrial Organics(Important materials for the cosmetics, food, drinks, textile, drugs industries etc) such as ethanol, acetic acid, lactic acid, butyric acid and lots more are imported. I don't want to talk about the Steel (agent of Industrialization), imported petroleum products that's taking the whole of our FOREX thereby making our Currency useless. Gosh!! Economically, the APC administration have failed in every ramification. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Modrov:The government should tighten border security, remove subsidy and Nigeria would collapse, things are already tough and inflation everywhere, selling fuel for 300naira a litre would not be possible, after all the money saved from subsidy will still be looted. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

It is not impossible to stop petroleum smuggling, just say the government and NNPC, don't have the will power to do so, since the smuggling, greatly enriches some people in the system. The only thing you can't find solutions for is death. 3 Likes |

Modrov:Fuel Subsidy is the only sure thing the poor masses gain directly from the Government. You think if subsidy is removed the excess funds will be used judiciously?Hell No! it will be embezzled by one Pot bellied criminal. How many times have subsidy been removed with the hope of fixing the refineries but they ended up doing nothing and subsidy keeps coming back over and over again Abeg, they shouldn't make things unnecessarily tougher for the masses. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Modrov:The problem isnt subsidy, but corrupt security officials that aide these smugglers. Most of the officials of these agencies spend much time in a particular zone, they should be shuffled and u will see the impact. Give them close monitoring, anytime dpr records more than what is the normal consumption of fuel in a particular month, their salaries will be deducted. We need to be serious in this country.. We shouldnt punish more than 190m people because of the crimes of less than 100thousand people. 2 Likes 1 Share |
Re: Why Petrol Smuggling Continues - Mele Kyari by AntiBalaka: 9:34am On Sep 03, 2021 |
The issue of Petrol smuggling persists because it is a northern affair and also because the NNPC uses fake import quantities to loot and from there claim the huge daily consumption is as a result of smuggling. There is fuel smuggling and it is limited to the northern borders and is a fully northern affair but not at the level the NNPC claims. All the southern international land borders are heavily policed or closed like that of the Cameroun border. So any smuggling that is occurring is going on in the north. The NNPC is using smuggling to steal and loot in the name of non-existing fuel imports. Northerners are thieves and a plague to this country. 1 Like 1 Share |
