Henderson (DM) was POTS when Liverpool won the league.

Ruben Dias (CB) for City when they won the league.

Instead of just refuting my claims, why don't you state yours.
So how is Henderson who is a midfielder now a defender? He's not even a DM but a CM sef. But even if he's a DM, A Midfielder is never a defender. Don't muddle up positions to prove your point.

The player of the year is Kdb. That is the renowned player of the year. Your Dias point will only make sense if no man city player won EPL player of the year or if dias himself won EPL player of the year. Kdb winning EPL player of the year disproves Dias award cos one award is way way greater than the other. We all know who won man city the league and it's Kdb not Dias grin

I think we should commend Arteta for keeping us at the top of the table. I just check the 'behind closed door friendly' league table and we are currently first with 3 points and 4 goals difference.

Trust the process

Please get my point straight. I did not say EPL player of the year, I said the club's player of the year. The former may be more superior than the latter, but the club and coach in particular knows where their actual strength lies. They chose Dias not KDB.

As for Henderson, tactically he was a defender. Check their playing patterns. It's like saying Salah was a winger, but he was a striker tactically. TAA was a full back but a winger tactically.

All these ones you're saying tactically is just you skewing the talk to suit your narrative. Alexis Sanchez/Mane is known always for helping his fullback wen defending, sometimes even winning the balls. Does that make them a defender? No. Also nobody will call TAA or Robertson wingers.
Like I says earlier, don't muddle up positions just to sound right, it's wrong in every way. Nobody (not even ardent Liverpool fans) will ever call Henderson a defender. Same way no Chelsea fan will call Kante a defender.

Man city have won 5 EPL titles, if I tell you to name their player of the seasons in each of their title wins now, you go run(or change mouth). Just one anomaly wey happen last season, you just run sharp sharp bring defence wins you league as if it's a norm grin

You guys are actually missing the point.

What is an Arsenal fan's business with whether defense or attack wins titles when you are so far from the conversation. That is just an exercise in football theory and does not have any immediate practical utility.

The questions should be which of your players are good enough to be wearing the shirt of a top or ambitious club like Arsenal?
Where is the weakness in your team? Where do you need to improve?

To answer those questions you should go to the threads of Liverpool, Man City (if they have any fans), Man Utd, Chelshit, or even Bayern and ask them to pick the 3-5 players in your squad that they would accept into their squad if forced to.

Let's see how many of your defenders will make the list, and how many of your midfielders, or attackers will make it. You guys are parading bottom half defenders and expecting top half outcomes.

from Edu's interview....

"Just to give you some context, we renewed - in one year - five sets of contracts, and five of them are under the age of 23 for the first team. Then, in this period, summer to summer, we signed 10 players and seven out of the 10 are under 23 as well.

“We had 21 players exit over the year,”
“All of those were terminated or we tried to sell, or we tried to loan with an obligation to buy as well. "

“We tried to clear a bit of the squad and bring in some new faces. We had 21 outgoings and signed 10 players in one year.

“So, 21 changes, it is a lot. It’s more than a squad in one year. But this was the intention again when we are talking about the base and the foundation.”

“Why did we do that? Because we have a reason to try again to create a good foundation and then, one day, maybe we are going to sign one or two players only. But after that, it’s impossible to sign one or two players only because we have a lot to do.

Edu admits that Arsenal's start to the season has been unacceptable but has called for unity at the club and re-iterated that he has full confidence that matters will improve.

'Talking about my role, I understand the pressure. I understand the pressure on me, Mikel, the board and the club because the situation we are in now is not acceptable. 'But, now is the moment for everybody to be together and I would like to see people step forward in difficult moments and take the responsibility.

'I am responsible for what we are doing.'

“All three games we have played against Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City, unfortunately we have had some difficult moments in terms of COVID and injuries.

“I want to see the team play together and then let’s judge the team when they play together. Then, after that, no problem. Judge us then.

“I understand the situation we are in now is really tough. It’s not an excuse but let’s judge the team when they play together.”

“I don’t want to go for top four or top six or top eight or top 10. I’m just really looking forward to seeing this squad play together. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone fit,” said Edu when asked what Arsenal’s target was for the season.

“I want to see our squad because I don’t see it yet. But I’m really looking forward to it because I believe and Mikel believes that this team can have a good season.”

My Take:

I don't see the board sacking Edu or Arteta anytime soon irrespective of whatever results we get this season. They have sold the idea of building a new team for the future to the board and the owner, and told them not to expect any immediate results. Forget about all those Arteta sack deadline rumors, Arteta is not going anywhere soon. The owner and the board have been bought over with their "sweet" plans .

One can choose to believe Edu, be positive, supportive, trust the process and dream along with them, but for the sake of my heart, I have chosen not to expect anything much from Arsenal this season just praying we don't go into relegation while Arteta and Edu finish cooking and smoking whatever they want.

But on the good note, he said we can judge them when we have the whole team available and played together... So till then

This here is the issue. Now most of us here didn't deny the fact that our defence is poor or cannot enter into any top 6, what we're saying is that our midfield and attack too can't enter into any top 6 too. Once your midfield and attack is subpar, there's nothing defence can do to hold you up cos eventually "pressure must burst pipe".
There's no way in hell our attack can make top 4 with these midfield and attack. At least I know with Tierney, there's hope that he can force his way into a top 6 team, but you see that midfield and attack, I don't just know who'll even force their way into first team in any of the top 6 team

It's no coincidence we've been toothless in attack in past 3 matches, and even tho coach might have a big hand in it, it also points to the inferiority we have in that midfield and attack, who in turn makes defence looks so so damn bad. I mean, Mari wasn't this bad last season the way he is this part 2 matches.

If I tell you(as a man u fan) to choose any player that will walk into your first 11 in midfield or attack from our team, I'm sure you'll pick none, (maybe except partey who's badly an injury prone player). Same goes to Chelsea fans, Liverpool fan, man city fans, Tottenham fans and even Leicester fans too.

That's how bad our front 2 department are.

I guess our season will properly start against norwich. I hope the acquisition of that RB from bolgona will improve the right side of our attack.

As at the start of last season your midfield and attack were Europa level but your defense was just above relegation level. The board has made acquisitions in defense and it remains to be seen how well they will settle in.

Your attacking players were good enough to play well and get better results if you didn't have a manager who decided he had to be defensive minded in order to protect your fragile defense. I know cos we have gone through the same issue at United.

Outside Tierney nobody in the Top 4 is touching any of your relegation level defenders like Kolasinac, Chambers, Holding.

I would pick Martinelli, Saka, ESW, Auba, Partey, Odegard for my team before any of those guys in that back (apart from the excellent Tierney of course). They are just not good enough.

Whether the midfield or attack is helping them is immaterial IMO cos they are not good enough to be defenders at a club like Arsenal. The first question to ask is " in a vacuum is this player good enough to represent the club". Ask that question about Kolasinac, Chambers, Holding.
Mari, Gabriel, White will have the chance to show their quality this season.

The board decided that the worst players in the club were the defenders and spent accordingly. It would not have been reasonable to spend more money on a 6/10 attack and midfield in order to protect a 3/10 defense. Better to just improve the defense and make it 6/10 too.

Now where i would agree with you is that with the recent defensive acquisitions it is high time the board started looking at the midfield and attack, in particular replacing people like the ageing Auba, Laca, and the departed Willian.
And someone has to go to Ghana to confirm Partey's birth certificate. cheesy

This I 100% agree, the reason I opined here sometimes that Arsenal's bench players can't make first 11 of those mid and low tabled teams.
As much as we criticize Arterta, I won't be blind to the fact that 85% of these players are not good enough for a FC like Arsenal. Most of them are just too basic and the youngsters we rate are either just there or still growing.
I remember during the days of Carzola, despite playing alongside average players, he always standout, take away Tierney,Saka and 2/3 more players in this squad, the rest aew not up to my standard.

Same way Guen won player of the month at Arsenal same month Auba won EPL player of the month. Yeah it was in Guen our actual strength was.

You always think you are arguing with your fellow dunces.

There's no argument dimwit. The club chose who they feel is their best player, for me that's more critical than the opinions of outsiders. This should be easy for any dummy to fathom unless you're becoming obsessed with my level of intelligence undecided
May amadioha strike you and that your imbecillic cheerleader if you ever attempt to masturbate on my moniker, sod gay. angry

Let me drop my 2 cent here...

I think the Arsenal board were on point with the purchase of Gabriel last season but not White and Ramsdale or the other defenders they've bought.

I think what Arsenal needs now is to get back into the UCL proper and a good attack and midfield can deliver that but to win trophies which should be a long term goal for Arsenal at the moment, they will need to improve on their defense...

With a good attack and midfield, you can win games against the weaker teams and possibly snatch a point or a win against the big guns and that should be enough to guarantee a top 4 finish for a couple of seasons before the issues surrounding the defense is fully addressed.

I don't think Saka, ESR, Martinelli, Lokonga, Nketiah and the likes should be the go-to men for a team like Arsenal as they are way too young to shoulder such heavy responsibilities...After the signing of Gabriel, more funds should have been channeled to improve the attack and midfield whilst they paper over the cracks in defense with bargain buys.

Lastly, one of Auba or Lacazette should have been or rather should be moved on for a younger and more prolific forward...

With your epistle my dear brother what's your stance?

What caused the argument was which department needs reinforcement first before the other before we start twisting words...
