Far better. Certain elements in the design are responsible. CVT + direct fuel injection + ECON mode... EoD has none of these.

Contrasting points highlighted. Car is much better than the 7th gen in mpg.

Modified! I get it now. As per drinking a cup of tea over an hour. Lol.

I currently have 26.7 on trip meter A. Though I must admit, I'm still doing some new car spirited driving moves grin. So not good time to measure mpg. I usually do not drive with ECON on except when in traffic.

Morale of the story...

Accidented cars with SRS deployments can be restored to factory. You just need to know what it will take: parts, tools (if DIY), cost estimate for repair etc.

Expertise is very important for SRS repairs. Where I painted the fender, the manager told me a similar car they tried to replace its driver airbag had 2 replacement airbags blow on them. I asked, "was the SRS disabled before fitting?“ To my horror, NO, was the answer. And this was a relatively well setup place!

You need to be patient when in the market for a car, especially if you have a strict set of criteria. Don't rush into a 'bad' car because its proving difficult to find a 'good' car.

Peace!

I was at Kofar Ruwa, Kano to get one of my front car speaker, i was sitting waiting for the guy to return. All of a sudden, there was a big bang! It definitely was not a gun shot, i thought what could possibly make such a loud bang in a mechanic garage. I saw people peeping and talking about the incident that happen 5m from me.

I walked up to what seem to be ground zero. It was a Canada used (my guess due to rust) 2010 Toyota Rav 4 that had its right curtain airbag deploy while an electrician was doing some repairs.

Already people were suggesting all sort of cover up. These people have no intention to fix the deployment but were doing everything to hide it from the client who wasn't there.

To some dealers, deployed airbag means more profit from an unsuspecting buyer.

Also update us when(or if done) you perform transmission fluid change.

With the latest dollar jangolova, I don't even know. Dollar was 470 when I bought, just checked and its 532 for today.
I guess you can check jiji for rough estimates and possibly check out car stands near you.

Shipping depends. RoRo should be about $1000 - $1500. Those that ship regularly can update.

It's funny you took this pic! I took one earlier today without even seeing yours.
My trip A came with almost 4k miles from the previous owner, and I decided to wipe it this week. I felt the 4k miles was affecting my average mpg. 100miles in, I'm getting 32mpg.

ECON when I'm cruising or in traffic. No ECON when I need to accelerate or just need the extra oomph.

This has to be the most enlightening thread on AIRBAG repairs.

Piyke, please I have AIRBAG lights showing on my dashboard cluster in my Honda Civic 09.
It was accidented too upon purchase as tokunbo and the light has been there since I got it.

Please I need your inputs on how I can restore the airbags to factory settings.

Thanks

Piyke:
I got this car via auction with steering wheel airbag deployment.

I have successfully restored SRS to factory state, and the airbag/SRS light is now off.

More updates...

Thanks. First thing is to scan the car with a scanner that has SRS access. This will detail the repairs to be done.

They were many:

1. Frame damage: non-centrally placed wheel in the wheel well etc.

2. 200k mileage mascurading as 88k angry angry

3. Altered VIN: Including swapping the underwindshield VIN stamp shocked

4. Fake custom duty angry

5. No custom duty disclosed as so.

6. A car with as much as 14 current SRS codes yet the airbag light is off...alias tape or bulb deletion angry. Airbag deployment was not exclusion criteria, however having e.g frame damage in addition, was.

7. "Nothing to fix, buy & drive": only for you to get there, no need to even start the car.

8. Engine sound suggesting mechanical damage.

Will update if I remember

Forgot to add pictorial evidence of the bolded. Was just scrolling through my phone and found this one.

Thanks, boss for your contribution.

Are there any pointers that may consider when doing physical inspections?
I know about VIN/Carfax check, but now that they've started altering VINs, how do you check for those things?

You're welcome. You just have to have an eye for detail and know the OEM stamp like the back of your palm. With this, you'll be able to tell a fake stamp.

Also, a scanner will identify the true VIN from the ECU...
