The 'standard' optimum door measurements for Nigeria is1981 x 838 x 35mm – in most circumstances this provides the required opening width for cabinets and double door American fridge to go through. You may also hear this door size being referred to as a 2’9”. This measurements will fit any well built project. But the beauty of installing wooden doors is that if the door is too wide, knock down the walls to fit the door. If the door is too narrow for the opening, set some blocks to narrow the opening. So in your area look for the above door measurements or something close. You can't go wrong.

[s]However DO NOT BUY THOSE DOORS you attached. Why? The handles are already fixed. If your door space is right handed and the door (handle) is left fixed, that door is near useless for your use. So buy a plain door, hang the door and fix the handle accordingly.[/s]

Go back and look again at my door photos. No handles. This makes the door very flexible for any openings.

Bro’s, do not lead them into temptation with your trial-and-error solutions. You’ve not imported a single door into Nigeria let alone install one to know what it cost (not talking money) those who have towed that path.
I’ve witnessed and done over 100 of those doors and I can tell you those who did regretted the decision.

Well, we need more experience though. So people should feel free to experiment after all it’s their money!

________

The problem of those doors is beyond the concern you raised. A double-sided hinged panel door won’t give you any issue when installing because it had no frame and it can always be mirrored to work both sides.

How you missed this is something I don’t know?

__________

In Nigeria wey we dey, the handle of a panel door doesn't determine the opening of a door The position of the jamb on the frame does.

I'm still at the planning stage, so it may take a while (possibly December) to arrive Nigeria but I have the photos already from my local building merchants. See attached photos. Prices and size included.

So it is SOLID Oak or Sapele wood internal wooden door. I don't do internal metal/iron doors. Factory treated against termites ( so you don't need to perform animal sacrifice) and warping; guaranteed for 10 years minimum and ready for vanishing to your taste if you so wish.

You will need to buy locks (photo attached) guaranteed a lifetime, so you don't need to worry about locking yourself in as with Asia locks prevalent in Nigeria.

In price terms, you can land a PROPER SOLID internal wooden door in Nigeria (inclusive locks and keys) for N100K per door. However, I'm buying a bus to load in all items and ship them to Nigeria. I will sell off the bus (fire sale) which will bring the unit cost of each door to about N85k or thereabout.

I normally construct wooden internal doors in Nigeria for rentals. But this project is a family forever home, so I'm happy to import products I'm used to and trust and cry later about the cost.
Bros if I tell you some of these wooden doors you see in home depot are made in Enugu you won’t believe me abi. It’s amazing me when I watch only for export wooden products on one of Nigeria tv program few years ago. If you’re interested please watch bank of Industry program on channel tv, you be surprised many of these products are produced in Nigeria. Matter fact there is another Company producing standard wooden door in Mowe close to 15 years display them as imported doors. I’ll look for link and post here for everyone to see.

I guess the purpose of this thread is to learn so am here to learn, why can´t we talk about the advantages/disadvantages of imported building materials like doors etc for everyone to learn.

Since you have more experience in this field it will be very nice of you to elaborate more on the disadvantages of imported doors

here's what I can tell you about imported doors. Anything less than 250,000 for the single (3ft) is a charade. You just wasted your funds.

If you want to buy imported doors,go all out. It's meant for everyone

It might not even be due to termites. It could be worms.

If the wood is not Kingpost or purlins, it cm be changed. That's the lasting solution.

Change all the bad woods. Cut grasses around your house. Treat (soak) incoming wood.

Yes, I have similar issued b4, I used soligum, used sniper, diesel and everything, but the situation still persists, my carpenter ask me to buy another hard wood which was used to replace affected members and the one that can't be replaced we put another wood to support it rigidly. Just involved experience carpenter and they will change it.

Even the 250k doors, if you do not have a covered porch over your imported door, it won’t last 3 years.

Good morning my friends here, I am enjoying all the discussion about imported or locally made building materials we have been having here since yesterday, I was buying a lot of doors yesterday so I couldn't participate in the discussion. I am buying and fixing doors for about 5 different houses now. I am also searching for some particular types for two clients whom I haven't satisfied their taste in some doors because we couldn't find the doors.

I will contribute some of my experience since I have built, bought, and installed thousands of doors here in Nigeria, both local or imported doors. I might not tell us which is better because what is better for one client might be rejected by the next client. It's as usual, a matter of choice, and our work is to ensure that the choices made by our clients are well carried out to the best quality possible.

It's also a matter of budgets as some of has said above, there are classes of doors in every segment and type. What I will do here is to lubricate the discussion with many pictures so we can visualise some of the things we were talking about.

Good morning my people.

Maybe the wood used to build it is not sourced from a country that value public health.

The same type of door that I have in my house is still as good as new because there’s a 3.1m covered porch over it. It’s not exposed to harsh weather.
