You can do it only if U Will be the one to repay the loan... Your dad is a good man.. it's not all dads that can pay a bribe to make sure their kids secure a job...

I'm guessing part of what he has to repay was those scams.. He took a risk.. assuming it was successful, U wouldn't be here dismissing and blaming him for taking the gamble...

Just tell him that you do not have the capacity to do that... But if U can, Just do it.... But if it's me, I will do it as a form of repayment for all the sacrifice...

Oyibo dey repay the loans wey them borrow as students loan, Botswana dey do am, South Africa the same.. it's only Few countries like Nigeria who can single handedly pay for their kids fees.. Nigerian parents are simply the best... Someone was even suggesting that you break your SIM.. what a world...

What a world my brother!!! God bless you.

How can a son be so stupid as to bring his father’s matter to Nairaland of all places..
Now his father is being ridiculed by some idiots.

The painful part is that most of the people commenting here now will not think twice before collecting such loans on behalf of their father knowing that he was only trying to help..

Op, focus on filling your cup first so others may drink from you.
A loan on your meagre salary is draining the little you have and repayments deducted from that will probably see you getting further into debt just to survive. You will end up compounding a bad situation.
Please don't throw good money after bad. On this occasion, it should be a resolute no. When the time comes, hopefully your hard work pays, I pray you will be in a position to gift such amounts and more to your loved ones. For now, do not entertain the idea of taking out a loan.

As for the guilt trippers, your children are NOT your retirement fund. If you know you cannot provide for them, or expect them to be grateful to you for having unprotected sex, please do them a favour in the first place and use condoms.
Your kids owe you nothing! If you don't want the responsibility of raising them, don't have them. Simples!!!

Good day Niralanders,

I need your sincere advice on my present situation.
Please ignore any grammatical error or punctuation. I’m the first son of my family, my father is an average Nigerian trader, he single handedly sponsored my schooling from nursery to higher institution.

After my service year, one of his friends scammed him of 300k in the name of they will get me a job in NUPENG before he paid that money I told him my pastor’s revelation about the NUPENG job, which my pastor said She does not like the job and shared ill references associated to the job with me and I told my dad when I got home, he countered and rebuked the revelation, he doesn’t take any of our advice, he finally fell for the scam.

To cut the long story short, I’m now working class that earn 75k monthly, however I’m still squatting with a friend and I’m still struggling to survive.

Recently I received a call from my dad, he told me he needs 500k for trading, that he wants me to take loan on his behalf he will be paying the debt once it’s due, since he is yet to complete the outstanding loan he took from the same bank, which is remaining 3 months to complete. I later discovered he had another debt he’s still servicing (Paying ) of a different bank that is remaining 6 months to complete.
After pondering over it i asked him; what if he defaults what will happen ? he shunned me and said why will I be negative and I politely told him my mind that I cannot help the current issue. Since then he started reporting me to my mum relatives to talk to in order to accept and collect the loan of 500k on his behalf.

Please your advise on this will be helpful.
Thank you.
I'll advise you to arrange like 300k for him. Don't borrow half a million pls cos it might b a problem tomorrow

Don't do it.
The fact you are asking this here tells me you already have a gut feeling about this.
He sponsored your education and so What?
That is his responsibility as a parent, it's nothing new
If he is unable to qualify for a loan in his own name he will not meet with conditions of payment and you will ruin your own future starting off life with a huge debt
Why would a parent even ask such from his own child
Please say no
This is a very unreasonable request
Your dad is very irresponsible going by his history.
Dont fall for his cheap manipulations or you will regret this .
Anyone advising otherwise is not wise.
Use your head and save yourself

Calculate whatever loan you can repay and apply for it. If he pays, fine. If not, pay it and he won't come back to ask you to do it again. Family matters a lot.

See, op. He's your dad. Also remember he got into debt because of you. He meant well for you and if not for how everything turned out badly, you'll prolly be doing a 6 digit job and living large by now. So consider him and do this.

Take a 100k loan. at least you can conviniently pay back in case he defaults. Just test him with that first and see how it goes. Don't just turn him down outrightly.

That's all.

I thought of the same idea. I wanted to suggest 200k but 100k is very okay. Tell him that's the amount your current salary can carry. And never ask for the money, if you like yourself. Cos I see your dad seems to be a bully.

Your father is your father. You need to be wise, just find a way to give him something monthly then tell him you couldn't get the loan because you don't qualify. Note, when things go better kindly increase his package.

If u can't jump a puddle fr some that crossed the ocean fr u then what's ur usefulness.

U don't ve to come out here seeking attention from people that doesn't even know neither u nor u father, they ve no glimpse of the family bond u share together. Yet u want them to advice u rightly.

Little did u knw that some folk re better behind their mobile devices because u won't like to meet them in-person. Some ve no where going yet they want to take you with them.

If you truly need someone to talk to abt this, talk to ur pastor, family and friends. You stand a better chance of getting genuine advise from them.

Peace unto u.

I don't like when things like this happens, it put the child in a very tight bad spot...
Tell your dad you are not entitled to loan until after some years...
Tell him to get the loan somewhere else that you will help him offset it with your salary...
At least if he gets the loan, he will be able to pay it the same way he wish to pay if you help him obtain the loan..

Believe me, he will default and play the, "I am your father, I spent on you, I was indebted because of you card"

Good day,

1. At your present monthly pay 500k is too much a loan you can pay off easily except you are earning unofficial pay to balance up.

2. All those your extended family he is reporting you to kindly tell them to do it for him and see their reaction.

3. Note this! If you take that loan I am sure it can only be from all these loan shark around and it will be at exorbitant rate that will destroy you and will make you loose your job. I am saying this cos I know there is no standard bank that give you 500k on that monthly pay. The maximum any bank can give you 25k multiply 12 which gives you 300k. This is arrived at using you debt service ratio DSR. So my advise for you is to take a 250k loan for him with the mindset that you are the one that will pay back.

4. I advise you do this cos I know he won't pay back so once he defaults you have reason never to entertain his entitlement mentality again.

5. Above all I pray God lift you up soon to be able to rescue your dad and family.

Thank me later on enilowoatgmail.com

Cheers

Young man, I will advice you as you requested.
If you are in a position to access loan, quickly do it for your Dad's sake. Take the loan of 500K, to be repaid after 2 years (24 month). If they deduct 25k from your salary, you still have about 50k to manage with monthly. Let him know that you have taken the loan and will be paying back from your salary. Don't ask him to pay you back as it is not proper. Your Dad will appreciate it and will not expect more from you until after the 2 years.
It is not too much for you to do for your Dad. He made effort to help you get a better job, but was scammed so don't blame him.
It was a mistake for you to cause him to take the matter out to external persons.
Count yourself lucky that you have a healthy Dad who after giving you education, is still struggling and doing business, what if he was sick and in the hospital, won't you spend more than that to cater for him. Do it for him now that you have the opportunity, it will help relieve him and prolong his life.
Note that I am not counselling you into taking loan all the time or living on loans, but he has a need for that and it is like first time.

To think of it, it seems you are not close to your Dad as you ought to be, you should communicate often with him and be in position to know what he used all the loans for and if possible start discouraging him from taking loans especially where it is not necessary.
Good luck.

Don't do it. From your explanation, he doesn't have good records with money management. This is what you ll do.....Tell him that you can only support his biz with let say 50k loan. He should look elsewhere to get the remaining 450k. That way, you ve minimize your risk even if he cannot pay you back

Thank you.
Some of the people telling you to ignore your dad don’t even have a responsible dad, only few have. Your dad once even took 300k loan cos of u, it’s obvious he meant well for u. Take the loan bruh , even if he doesn’t pay back and u eventually pay it back. He won’t have anything to hold into against u. It’s just like programming ur mind that u want to pay back d 300k he too for your sake man.

Youngman support your good dad without further hesitation. What is 500k loan, even when he offered to pay back. If he default, you help him and service it. That 500k may be a turn around in his business.

It is not too big to sacrifice for someone that supported you in toils throughout your education. I'm angry with you for bringing this to public forum. I don't know why people are wicked until they don't even realize when the wickedness is also eating deep their own veins.

Support your dad, if he fails (God forbid) your 75k monthly is enough to part a bit and service it monthly for him.
**Don't be a very selfish ingrate of a son*

Young man pls support ur dad.
