I have advertised severally for writers on this forum. I receive a lot of applications, but most of these people contacting me send poorly written samples. And when I decide to test them, they deliver something even worse than the samples.

I make it very clear from my posts that I am not looking for article writers but writers comfortable with all kinds of writing. After seeing this, they go ahead and apply. When I give them a task as simple as writing a job application for my client, they deliver rubbish, only to give flimsy excuses that they only know how to write articles.

What sort of writer writes only articles?

I am tired. Please come to my aid, by showing me where I can post job ads to get competent writers.

It's not about the pay. If a writer is incompetent, even if you pay him N1,000 per word he'll still deliver rubbish.

Just to be clear, I only created this thread to seek help. I don't know any other way to convey my thoughts without sharing my past experience here. It's way worse than I described. You will be amazed at the kind of writing I get from supposed professional writers. Sometimes I ask, "Is it hunger that is making them apply for jobs they cannot do?"

Personally, I do not apply for jobs I cannot deliver on. Same principles I apply in my businesses (www.vapatrick.com and www.patrickokunima.com). If a client needs help with a task I cannot deliver with at least 90% perfection, I decline. It's better for me than to tarnish my image. It is for this same reason I have never disappointed my clients. Today, more than 80% of my business come from referrals.

I turn down orders. I cannot grow my businesses to the extent I want, because of incompetent employees, writers particularly. I had to temporarily shut-down the academic writing aspect of VA Patrick (www.vapatrick.com) for the same reason. I have only one competent academic writer. His background is Bus Admin. So, he takes care of my old clients with mgt and biz background.

Please, if you know anywhere I can get good writers, let me know. I need help!

My targets are Nigerians. If you've worked with Nigerian clients, you should know we don't pay much. Does it make sense to get a foreigner to do a locally sourced job?

I have written contents for various clients I can tell you that it is had to stay motivated if the pay is low.

I don't know your niche and how much you are willing to pay per word but what I do know is to get the kind of writer you want will take some time depending on the job description and you should be willing to pay more.

Also, you might want to consider training writers that seem to have potential to your taste by correcting their mistake and modifying the content yourself.

I hope you know there is shortage of talent as they are so many jobs good writers can do with better pay apart from other things they are doing.

I am not a professional writer myself, but I write SOPs, business plans, proposals, CVs, application letters and several others. I also write articles. I have stopped that though. At a time, I was one of the most active in the job section. 2 to 3 of my articles make homepage each week. The only kind of writing I cannot take on is fiction writing or anything related to that. Some of the things I write on, I never heard of them previously. A typical instance was when a client needed help with a pitch deck. I had to do my research to learn as much as I could about it in the shortest possible time. I delivered and the client was impressed.
