For anyone who goes abroad, the aim should not be to stay there and just live your live there. The aim should be to get citizenship and save enough money that you can use to invest back in Nigeria The citizenship part is for the sake of your future children. You want to give them as much opportunities as possible for them to succeed easily without stress, and of course 1st world countries offer this. After getting your citizenship, you can decide to return and then be shuttling the two countries. Doing business in Nigeria as well as over there abroad. There are some people abroad that actually have big plans for Nigeria but first they must sort themselves out by securing the citizenship. 34 Likes 1 Share |

Klass99: If you have a decent income stream in Nigeria you can live well but you need to be wary of leeches, especially so called 'family' or others who will try to use emotional ties to fleece you. If you can do that and take care of your physical security and health then you will be fine. The other thing that I suggest Africans do is talk to oyinbo who have left their own countries, often for good, to get an understanding of what life is really like there. I feel as if a lot of Africans make unfathomable assumptions about what daily life is truly like for the average person in many of these western nations. If you go to Thailand or Dubai you will meet countless westerners who have left their home countries with no intention of ever returning. Speak to them, you might learn something. 15 Likes 1 Share |

Most times Village people are responsible for bringing people back home. It could be through a whisper that he forgot something. Or arrange something or event in Nigeria that needs urgent attention. It is when that person get to the Nigerian Airport that they return his senses back to him. 3 Likes 1 Share |

MeghaneMorgane:All the folks I know that have this your mentality are from dysfunctional families here in Nigeria so when they leave, they don't come back cos they literally have no family and their foreign hosts know . In fact, about 4 of them came home to only bury their parents. Like I told one, you reap what you sow in life. Being wealthy is different from being rich. Most Nigerians in the West think they are rich but certainly they are not wealthy 8 Likes 1 Share |

Initially yes I regretted but that was probably because I didn’t have a job/income. Felt the NYSC program was a waste. However the low cost of living in Lagos made it possible for me to afford things I couldn’t afford in as my freelance jobs made it possible for me to rent an apartment in Lagos during the nysc year (1.3M per annum in 2014), spend a number of weekends In Abuja/Accra , bring in a pre-owned car from Florida and fund Friday/Saturday night outs . I was 24/25 then and that was what mattered to me. But now thinking about how to buy my apartment, retirement funds, children education and the increasing cost of living i’m considering another break from 3 Likes |

AlphaLion: It's heart wrenching to see old people homeless. I can't stand it. Don't know why Western countries do nothing about them Money is important but so is humanity. Old people should be treated with respect and dignity Some homeless old women even get to the point of selling s*x for money. Really really sad 1 Like |

seunny4lif:The issue of returning back to Nigeria is a personal choice, just cos you do not want to does not make it BAD idea! But there are loads of us Nigerians living abroad thinking investing in one's country is a waste of space, the quicker we realize the new narrative is what we have back home the quicker we get real with the reality that whatever we own abroad isn't ours 2 Likes |
