You are getting it wrong. vat is tax on consumption, it's until u consume u incure that tax, the state where the product is consumed the most is where they vat will be collected, it's easy... There are some products which are VAT exempted like agric products states producing such produce should add value to it so they can get vat from it. Enough of being spoonfed, governance should be left for smart people, If u can't think outside the box resign Modrovdeux: 7 Likes |

Yes this makes sense, but in a situation where a state gets vat return that is far less than what it generates, Hmmmm, I can't generate 10-15b naira as vat and now get a return of 4-5b naira while a state that generated 2-3b gets back it's own 2-3b when its shared, it's not rewarding bros Modrovdeux: 4 Likes |

Modrovdeux: Yes in all that the States will have enough to execute projects instead of sending it to the Federal government that will use our tax money to higher 100 private jets to attend the wedding party of a jobless elite in the North 7 Likes 1 Share |

Darkblood:... If it was that easy, then why do companies with a national outlook pay their VAT for their national profits...in Lagos where their HQ is? Plus, if I buy goods wholesale in Lagos for sale elsewhere...it would be counted as 'consumption' for the purposes of taxation.(Because states are broke and need the money) At the end of the day, there would be dobule taxation. Then I haven;t mentioned that states can raise VAT at a higher level than the federal government because....most states don't have enough cash, and are in debt. All in all, whether dobule taxation or higher VAT...you the consumer pays higher. There are some products which are VAT exempted like agric products states producing such produce should add value to it so they can get vat from it In other words, states should charge VAT on their agric produce.....okay. (Price rises coming up....) . Enough of being spoonfed, governance should be left for smart people, If u can't think outside the box resign So a situation where a bottle of Star lager increases in price because of multiple taxation due to VAT is optimal for you? Or a situation where prices of airtime and data go up because each and every state is charging VAT on calls made in their territory..is good for you too? Right.... (And yes, most governors are lazy, and yes they should charge more tax. But VAT by the states is not the way forward) |

ogwumgbe: At the expense of higher prices for beer, and higher airtime prices too.....because now each state is charging VAT on everything. But no, we have to beat those Northerners.... (A lot of Southerners too were at that wedding. Nigeria's elite are a tribe on their own) 2 Likes 1 Share |

CR777: Good morning to you too, Mr wise old man, whose wisdom exceeds that of Solomon. P.S : You don't need to be abusive. It reflects badly on you and makes you look like a child. Only children who are poorly brought up talk the way you do. But do go on. Abuse me more, if it makes you feel better....go on.

Modrovdeux: Well it will encourage industrialization, anything that will make the governors to stop being lazy and sit up is welcome. If Beer in Lagos will cost higher prize in Anambra, then Anambra should produce their own beer and boycott Lagos beer, that's development and creating more jobs. 6 Likes 1 Share |

ogwumgbe: You are mistaking production for collection of vat. State govts don't manufacture anything, they will just focus on increasing tax to make more money. The governor's don't drink ur local beers anyways. It's still the citizens that will suffer, businesses will close. And fgn will not be able to help u. |

blackpanda: Lagos State generated 49 billion and got 15 billion, If they use that 49 billion in their state, it will improve the lots of the masses, what we the masses need from you is infrastructure, we have been surviving without your help, so let the states collect Vats and build good road network, constant electricity, adequate water supply, we will be willing to pay for it period |

blackpanda: That's the sad thing. For many of them it is all about alcohol...as if alcohol is the only VATABLE thing. A lot of other things are vatable in Nigeria. Note that I am not opposed to states collecting VAT...it is the unintended consequences that worry me, and so far no one has answered my worries. Instead, I am somehow an aboki for expressing them. Ah well, it does not matter. We beat the Northerners. Yay! 2 Likes 1 Share |
