This administration has no plan to make profit and use it for anything. Theirs is to borrow for everything. Imagine borrowing for good 8 years. This is reckless of Buhari. Whereas OBJ paid debts and even cleared off huge amount. Buhari is a dullard. |

Look at this idiot called Amaechi, a Fulani stooge who has been dumped after ousting Jonathan. The whole Eastern rail line is dead and you are being used to build railways elsewhere with our resources. Foolish man. |

I do not understand his fascination with rail, that is a luxury for a country facing issues like nigeria is. |

Mr. Amaechi stop this nonsense. You have two rail lines running. Is that not enough to attract investment if you concession the existing lines. Is that not better than piling up these loans. Get investors who have accesses to long term funds at low interest rates and stop mortgaging Nigeria for travel tickets. There is much more to an economy than rail lines. Rail is business. Invest in it like business or it will become a huge white elephant. |

Re: Amaechi: Buhari Seeking Alternative Money For Rail Project by Reference(m): 11:15am On Sep 25, 2021 |
PeaceJoyLove: Just complete nonsense. By now they should have a business plan on how these rail lines will begin to offset these loans. Transport is a business and it has to be a business or it will become a huge drain short and long term. Anyone who invests in machines know this. In ten years time maintenance issues will arise. Will the loans be repaid by then? These people do not think far. |
Re: Amaechi: Buhari Seeking Alternative Money For Rail Project by musicwriter(m): 11:17am On Sep 25, 2021 |
The minister further explained that the establishment of rail projects was to reduce the cost of transportation and boost the economy since economic activity drives development in any country This is where you all get it wrong. The railway in and of itself cannot boost economic activity, unless there's already an economic activity in terms of invention and production on ground. Otherwise, we're just building it to serve as means of transportation for foreign goods. Could this be the real reason China has been financing it? The most effective way to boost economic activity is to learn SCIENCE and with scientific knowledge, the citizens would begin using that knowledge to invent and manufacture products for sale; such as blue milk that could cure COVID-19, equipment to generate electricity using water, iron soap (soap that doesn't reduce in size when used), iron candle (candle that doesn't reduce in size when used). NOTE THAT THE SAID PRODUCTS DOESN'T EXIST YET. Then, market would automatically be created for those products. And that's part of what is called services, which of course, would inherently be born with the products. That's how you get "goods and services." Government would then make money by taxing those products and services. The railway itself is just offering a service, it doesn't cause scientific invention and manufacturing which is the real economic development. The railway is useless unless "blue milk" could be produced first. Now, there's no blue milk. So there's nothing for the railway to carry, except mostly foreign goods, which means in the final analysis we're doing nothing but building railways to help China market their products in West Africa. Details in chapter 3 of the book on my signature. Only science can solve the poverty problem of a nation. 1 Like |

Apart from the stupid proposed rail line to Niger Republic, is it also possible for citizens to crowdfund infrastructure projects? |
Re: Amaechi: Buhari Seeking Alternative Money For Rail Project by Reference(m): 11:36am On Sep 25, 2021 |
musicwriter: Period. The only economic factor infrastructure offers is to lower the cost of production, cost of trade, etc. It does not create anything. Transportation is merely a tool, a means, so the cost of providing a service, providing the infrastructure is critical particularly if it is an opportunity cost as with a desperately poor nation like Nigeria. If all these borrowings are stoking hyper inflation and leading to massive devaluation of the naira and thus crushing jobs, businesses and most importantly disposable incomes then how can productivity be sustained. If I have a farm in the middle of nowhere and need infrastructure such as power, water and roads to convey my products out I do need to invest but I cannot afford to do it at any cost or else the farm which is the centre piece of such investment will suffer. If I go borrowing wily nily and the farm cannot pay back then what is the business all about. Rather I should think out of the box and either look for alternative or complimentary sources of funding for the infrastructure or alternative means of providing the infrastructure such as concessions, partnerships or barters. If these rail lines are not business modelled then we are in for it. Sooner than later we will begin to hear the familiar, that government is subsidising rail travel. And if they are business modeled then why can't we attract the investment to complete the rail network. 1 Like |

Ibkhaleel: You are eternally selfish. Since 1970, the West and the North have received more in development that the former eastern Nigeria, but through self help the SE especially has almost marched the the two regions except Lagos. The FG borrowed billions of dollars to build rail from Lagos through Kano to Niger republic, while the former eastern region where bulk of you FX comes from is not on the board, till later. I will support your version if you can mention one FG project in the SE, except army and police barracks. The only airport in the region has not been completed. The Niger bridge has been on board for more 40 years. Haba, this is not fair, plus appointments in some area that is reserved for the north, like NDLEA, EFCC, FCT, etc... Reasonable northerners like Emir of Kano, Tanko Yakassai, Umar Dangiwa and Balarabe Musa and other di-tribalised northerners have stated at different time that the SE is perpetually marginalized. But low folks like you will continue to feign ignorance. Telling them NEVER to complain. Igbos are more patriotic than most Nigerians as they build businesses wherever they live, but injustice and wickedness toward them must not continue. You scream one Nigeria, but you never invest in their region. The DOT SE region has the worse FG roads in the country. ...This is not about this APC government, but all other government since independence. Now they want their own country or regional autonomy within Nigeria where they can develop at their own pace. I give you example..If the FG was building Anambra airport, would they have attained the completion rate as the state government is doing? It will take at least 100 years. But if it were in the West or North it will be completed in record time. Treat every region equally with respect and love and the issue of agitations will die a natural death. |

Reference: Very correct! And this is similar to what Mr. Peter Obi was arguing the other day. The only outcome of what the Buhari administration is doing today is that Nigeria would sink more in debt, the Naira would depreciate the more, and Nigeria would be poorer. China is the real beneficiary of the whole thing because we're just building railways to help them market their products. |

Trade and industries are dominated by Southerners who have easy access to multi billion credit facilities courtesy their domination of state financial structure and instruments and institutions. Every ministry is dominated by them. All our markets are monopolized by them due to their control of capital that enable them to finance business and take more risk due to ease of acces to money. They conrol their markets by regular disruptuons of our businesses officially and by direct frequent violence unofficially. Their control of and easy access to liquidity enable them to be more enerprising business wise. They buy our goods cheap and sell theirs exorbitantly. To preserve the exploitative status quo they spread false verson of the reality. They centralize oil as the main source of wealth so that our attention will be far away from other sources of wealth they dominate. Oil is less than 10% of Nigeria's GDP. They tell us we are the parasite and we are lazy and we are uneducated to instil a sense of guilt, self hate and inadequacy in us. We swallow all these falsehood uncritcally because we made our source of daily information their media and books. They over concentrate on our weaknesses and ignore almost completely their own weaknesses. An average Southerner having mild cold will almost by default blame it on Northerners and will not lack northerners who "speak the truth" to agree with him. How can uneducated people have multitude of unemployed graduates? How can lazy people be producig the food of the nation? Why do millions of Southerners troop to the poor parasitic North and refuse leave? Useles** bunch of people |

I wished what u said made sense but doesn't... U hardly find investors on any rail project simply because it is capital intensive and it built mainly for service and to be the cheapest form of transport rather than profit.. U can't expect an organization or Private people to invest 1.6bn dollars on let say Lagos Ibadan rail line only to charge 3k for a trip..so project like this are usually funded by the government or the government borrow to fund it....China it self borrowed to set up it own high speed rail line....US even Saudi Arabia is doing same and is building on a desert while giving the contract to China...so it a normal thing Reference: |
