BREAKING: Rotational Presidency Unconstitutional – Northern Governors Reply by Ikpeyi: 5:45pm On Sep 27, 2021 |
Governors of the 19 northern states have described as unconstitutional, the position of their Southern counterparts that the country’s next President must come from their region. At a meeting in Lagos in July, Southern Governors had demanded that power must shift to their region. However, arising from an emergency meeting with northern traditional rulers at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, on Monday, the Northern Governors Forum said though some Northern States Governors had earlier expressed views for a power-shift to three Geo-Political Zone in the South, with a view to promoting unity and peace in the nation, the statement by the Southern Governors Forum that the Presidency must go to the South is unacceptable. Reading from the resolutions of the meeting, Plateau State Governor and Chairman of the Forum, Simon Bako Lalong, said: “The statement is quite contradictory with the provision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) as amended that the elected President shall secure at least 25 percent of the votes cast in 2/3 states of the federation. In the case of run-up simple majority win the election.” Details later… https://dailytrust.com/breaking-rotational-presidency-unconstitutional-northern-governors-reply-southern-counterparts 1 Like |

It is true rotational President is not in the Constitution how hard is that for Southerners to get that in their heads. Let everyone go and become president in their region or prime minister how hard is that ? |

So all these shenanigans is just to retain political power? It was not unconstitutional when they wanted it but when it is time to let go, they now remember a constitution they have spurn with utter disdain since antiquity. These desperate power mongers and masters of political deception will hasten the disintegration of this failed contraption faster than expected.Guess the bullion vans of Burdillion can the kind of political treachery these people are capable of? These are the hypocrites that threatened fire and brimstone if 2015 presidential election was not zoned to the North. They want another bloody fulani to succeed buhari and turn the entire country into a fulani republic. I hope sane minds are beginning to see the the rest of Nigeria has NOTHING IN COMMON with North? We're a billion times better off without these people. Bloody terrorist murderers. DISINTEGRATION OF NIGERIA WILL SAVE MILLIONS OF MIDDLE BELT AND SOUTHERN LIVES FROM FULANI AND BOKOHARAM TERRORISM. 2 Likes 2 Shares |
Re: BREAKING: Rotational Presidency Unconstitutional – Northern Governors Reply by Upton: 6:10pm On Sep 27, 2021 |
mrvitalis:Nobody is saying that. All we are saying is the major political parties should present a candidate from Southern Nigeria. There's nothing like zoning presidency to SE or SW. However, the fact is that Nigeria is two countries formed into one. Southern and Northern Nigeria, these two countries would have the right to their own president if there was no amalgamation. So for the sake of fairness and equity, presidency should be rotated between the two parts that make up Nigeria and not zoned to any particular zone. If it's rotated to the south, anyone from the south can contest, if it's to the north, anyone from the North can contest. One part of Nigeria can't keep ruling the country and expect the other part to be happy. 6 Likes |

The North has no intention of handing power over to the South come 2023. They are scared that what they did these past 6 years will be done to them if a Southerner were to become president. I maintain, call a referendum please. 3 Likes |

Nobody ever said that the issue of rotational presidency is constitutional. It is an established political practice for unity, equity and national cohesion. It was on this basis that the north demanded for power shift in 2015 after Jonathan had completed Yaradua’s term and his own full tenure. It was also on this basis that all southern candidates who were far richer and popular nationally stepped down for Yaradua at the PDP convention in 2007. So, saying it is unconstitutional is just playing the Ostrich. It was never about the constitution. The north has had its fair share of power from 2015-2023. Exactly on May 29, 2023, a southerner will takeover from Buhari. It is what it is and nothing can change it. 5 Likes |
