KosiGee: People think about life only in terms of money and make the biggest mistake. When the worst happens in Nigeria, most people are grounded. But in the UK From Cancer to stroke or even the most debilitating illness there is full health insurance. Good education, a largely lawful society where human dignity is preserved. £1800 - £2000 is not small money, but with corruption that has eaten deep into our country, I have seen jobless youth saying 50million is chicken change. Good luck to those migrating, they have taken the right decision 3 Likes 1 Share |

Goodvibes007: As funny as it sounds he is probably telling some truth There are so many reasons some Nigerians who left Nigeria in the 70’s and 80’s barely want to return to Nigeria. Most cant even afford flights back home, most don’t have houses here, most don’t have cars to drive them around here either. It’s funny after 30 years no investments in Nigeria whatsoever. It’s possible . These are the reasons you see the U.K. is a pseudo rich but heavily taxed in like sum and expensive country to live The nurses would have on average thier £1500 per month salary no doubt ( £23-25k per year) Now this is the problem Out of that £1500 a month £800 would easily go on rent, bills such as gas transport to work, food at work, clothes, etc would easily take £300-400 a month Now they are left with £300 right, they have two choices spend the remaining £300 back into the system that have them the £1500 or find a way to make it accumulate every month 99 percent of people would choose spend the £300 on shopping and just to get the feeling that finally you have Escaped Nigeria Now this is what happens next, months become months and like play like play years go by. Nurses just like everyone earn exactly the same in the Uk for years meanwhile bills go up Cost of living go up so the £300 left is barely anything again, years become years and the person decides to settle obviously in the Uk and no where else and thier kids give them more bills to pay In the nursing profession just like other ones they get only 28 days holiday in a year so they are more less trapped in the nursing job or any other job they move to. The summary above becomes just working to pay bills and living pay check to pay check It takes extraordinary grace to escape the life of LIVING FROM PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK in the UK SOME do Fraud to escape, some go into benefits fraud too or credit card fraud Also apart from living paycheck to paycheck, the UK is extraordinary built on a credit system, the little that the nurses have left after the month starts going on credit card repayments Mortgage repayments, car loan repayments meanwhile in the midst of this the cost of living in the UK keeps going up This is not to discourage anyone, the UK is one of the hardest places to be in and you see a lot of money after the month that you don’t think you are using again After about 10 years it’s possible the nurses were just about the same way they were 10 years before when they left Nigeria, it’s not bad belle, it’s just how rigid the structure in the UK is No one can escape how the UK works Only way to escape how the U.K. works is to have a second hustle or side hustle or FRAUD. But again who will have the chance to escape Nigeria and not take it But life is not a bed of roses on the other end due to the facts in my long epistle 7 Likes |

KosiGee: You talk some truth about salary band but not the truth about how the U.K. works No matter what salary you are in the UK, it takes extraordinary grace to avoid living from paycheck to paycheck Even if you are on £100,000 which central London and business directors are on After tax £100,000 per year is just £5,000 a month It takes years for anyone in the medical field to start with to get to this stage The point he was making was it isn’t that green on the other end Only those who have lived and worked in the Uk for many years can understand You can get trapped in a very very expensive system with the £1500 the nurses will start earning per month. After tax rent and all you could be left with little as £200 a month And they no born you well get a side hustle as a nurse in the Uk. And changing careers would be too difficult Meanwhile people that saw you leave Nigeria 10 years ago think you are balling and you are making big money And the financial stage you are at before you give birth in the Uk is more or less the same financial stage you will be by the time your U.K. kids grow to 18 Come to London and see poverty within Nigeria households People that left Nigeria as professionals 30 or 40 years ago, only mortgage they have because of the reasons above. The Uk is an extremely expensive country that can trap you and give you a pseudo success story where you actually think you are making or have made it I think this is the point the guy you replied to was making Honestly come and see some people In the Uk who left Nigeria in the same happy state 30 years after I was even shocked some can’t afford flight tickets back home Even some don’t have time from work back home cos all jobs in the Uk give you a 28 days holiday in one year So you have to use the 28 days carefully And the longer they stay in the Uk the worse it becomes and the more the years roll back and this is why you now have some British Nigerians who really want to come back to nigeria that most haven’t been too because of their parents always see it as a different country I hope you get my points sha , but congrats to anyone leaving . Life is full of chances 4 Likes |

Odion2016: True the sanity and the peace of mind would come but at a price tho . After many many years due to how rigid the Uk works, only very few avoid living from paycheck to paycheck due to rent, food, car finance, gas , water etc After many years of just working year in year out and just paying compulsory and mandatory bills every month, you forget about peace of mind or even the sanity It’s just how funny how the U.K. works This is why some Nigerians who unfortunately left Nigeria 20 or 30 years ago hardly want to ever come back to Nigeria Most don’t even have anything to return to cos the UK has a very clever and compulsory and rigid way of offering you carrots and using the stick to take it from you Some Nigerians do Fraud to escape the rigidity But tbh I’m just speaking from experience and would never discourage anyone from wanting to escape Nigeria 2 Likes |

adonainana: If you earn about £25k/year, you should be a newbie band 5 who just graduated from Uni or someone who has been a nurse/radiographer etc employed from maybe a commonwealth country like nigeria. I will assume you are single as a newly qualified. Now why would you get an accommodation where you’d pay £800!!!. There are ways to cut cost. Except you are living in London or maybe Cambridge and working at say Kings college hospital or Addenbrookes…London btw will pay you more… You can get a decent rent inclusive accommodation for £400-£450 or even less depending on location…if you live further north, the rent is cheaper and that includes your heating, electricity and water. Clothes, most times you are given up to 4-5 uniforms free….except you are a doctor. They don’t wear uniform. Why and how would clothes cost that much?? A trip to TK MAXX, Next, marks and Spencer or even Sainsbury’s (TU clothing) will get you nice and quality wears and they are not very expensive. A good quality trousers at £10-20. Shoes at Clark’s at £40-70 depending on what you want. You don’t buy these every month. You should be talking about food and transport. They don’t cost much if you buy, stock your fridge and freezer and cook for yourself and that includes making and packing your lunch to work. In an all inclusive rent of that £400, you don’t pay council tax as your landlord sorts that. If a salary of £1600 is tight, you have the opportunity of doing NHSP or working overtime, your overtime pay will take care of a lot of your extra bills….Except you also support some people back home in Nigeria. If you are living in an accommodation that pays £800, I’ll assume that you are married and earning a bit more or a band 6 and above, let’s assume that you are not, your analysis is still not very true as your wife will most likely be working and earning. You can save one persons salary and pay your bills with the other. 4 Likes 1 Share |

KosiGee: Your last sentence is the best quote you used and I like, you can’t save one person salary and pay his bills with another In the same way you can’t help someone manage thier bills with stock your freezer with this stock your freezer with that. Wear uniform at work wear clothes at home go to TK. Max etc Bro to find a good place to live ( rent, council tax, tv license) you would at least £800 a month For someone like me, I have a place I stay for for £260 a month, but it’s me after 10 years I have too much experience about living spaces No way you are telling someone who earns £1500-1600 a month to be looking for slightly inhabitable places for less than £800 a month You can’t decide someone expenses for them remember Again I repeat even people in the Uk on £100,000 can live from paycheck to paycheck so more less a nurse on £25 or £26k or this band or this band You should focus on why and how to avoid living from paycheck to paycheck and find a way out 3 Likes |

Calitoscassius: Living paycheck to paycheck in the UN isn’t really a better choice to be very Honest . In fact it’s more rigid and more of a trappy system Especially if the person was the type that forgot about Nigeria for like 10 years or 20 years Some people never want to return to Nigeria not because it’s still a very bad country but because they don’t have nothing here, no house no car nothing whatsoever so in their end what are they coming to do Right fully so what are they coming to do If it’s not all about money what are you going to use to establish this investments Or you just want to pay bills and die and when you die in the Uk your kids would be looking for another £7000 compulsory funeral costs to bury you 1 Like |

Calitoscassius: It is about money cos it’s only money you can use for a better life so what is it about if not money The only area of contention is the UK and with other developed countries have a rigid sysytem of giving you a carrot and using the stick to take it from you Once you are trapped in the system You just pay bills and just die like that and your kids born outside Nigeria continue the struggle from where you left it The exception from the above is very very rare |
