Cape Town Tourism is on a mission to ramp up the city's vaccination drive so other countries see it as safe and open for travel. To mark World Tourism Day, celebrated today, the city has joined others around South Africa by illuminating the iconic Table Mountain in red lights. Despite a robust vaccination drive, the country remains on the travel ‘red list’ for the UK and several European countries. Last week, Nigeria also announced a ban on people arriving from South Africa - the country with the most Covid infections on the continent. Travel and tourism account for 8.6% of SA's economic output and 9.2% of the jobs. As the most visited city in the country, travel restrictions have hit Cape Town particularly hard. In response to this and as a way of showing the world that the home of Table Mountain is just as safe and beautiful to visit as it has ever been, Cape Town Tourism and the City of Cape Town are leading the charge to get as many people vaccinated as possible. 1 Like 2 Shares

The #LightSARed campaign has been encouraging landmarks across the country to light up in order to raise vaccination awareness and to urge the South African government to reopen the late-night scene and big entertainment events. The Cape Town ferries-wheel and soccer stadium have also been lit up in the past weeks.
