Hello famz! I intend to apply for graduate programs in neuroscience/molecular biology/physiology in the US, 2 of my papers are under review and may not be published by december when application ends for most schools. Other two are still in the works. My profile is 3.3/4 (WES). Is that good for my profile? I have been thinking it's not as good as getting them published but I don't really have any control over it. What do you think? |
Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Gerrard59(m): 2:30pm On Sep 26, 2021 |
preciousnobel: First, what are you aspiring to, MS or PhD? If PhD, is it direct from BS or MS? contact prospective professors or PIs (Principal Investigators) as a cold email requesting if they need graduate students by next Fall. Alternatively, you could apply directly to interdisciplinary programs depending on the graduate school's requirements. Of recent, grad programs in biology-related fields waive or outrightly cancel GRE, however, if it is optional, you might have to write it and send your scores (if you can mentally and financially) to improve your chances. 1 Like |

Gerrard59: Thanks for your comment. My ultimate goal is to get a phd, however I have been thinking Phd programs would be very competitive. Therefore, I may settle for Msc. I meet the minimum for all schools I am applying to (both Msc and Phd). I am just worried about my papers not being published in journal yet (though they have been submitted) because I understand schools are more concerned with applicants' research experience now... Also, do you have a script for appealing for application fee waiver? |

preciousnobel: Unfortunately, I don't have a a script for appealing for application waiver. But I believe such exists on the internet. Don't be worried, just state the papers are "in review" on your CV. Attach your transcripts and the professor assess your profile. The main thing is getting the PI's assent/approval. https://twitter.com/sjay_yayy/status/1436771550443622400?s=08 That thread will be of help to you especially on cold emails and CV 4 Likes |

preciousnobel: Just to add, I don't think you should limit yourself based on your thoughts on how competitive PhD applications are. PhD students are mostly known to receive more fully funded offers than Master's degrees. If you're sure about committing to a PhD, then go for it. You could also look at programs which allow their students receive a Master's degree after a few semesters of their PhD program. But like it's been rightly said, you should reach out to professors. 1 Like |

Scholastica16: Good day boss. I have my gre scheduled for next month and TOEFL for December. Already paid for Wes and processing my transcript. My major issue has been with school selection. Like you advised, I really don't care about the standing of the school. In fact, I think I am more interested in the calibre of city than that of school. Can you help with a few suggestions to schools where my chances are good for funding. I am looking at 10 schools. Also, is it advisable to apply directly for PhD without any published article. I am looking at industrial engineering and have like 3 years core experience. GPA - 4.07/5. Hopefully, my gre/TOEFL scores are also good |

How will they know the different weighting for different levels in calculating final GPA, and i noticed it is not split into years. How does it work? I'm a bit skeptical. update. Profile GPA 4.47/5 (3.65/4) WES unofficial GRE still loading Electrical engineering I'm looking at MS/PHD Any advice would be appreciated. |
