It has been in existence for many years just that it wasn't a trend then. Now, the Millennials have made it a norm.

Is it in Nigeria or the world at large, cos it's something that has long been in existence in the western world...
One thing I want people to understand is that everything that happens now in this current dispensation happened in times past, it's just not what we hear on a daily apart from the very few been heard about in our immediate environment due to the lack of a means of sharing instantly to the world at large...
Now person wey do bad for Europe, we go hear the gist instantly for Africa..

Millenials (1980's - 1990's) - I think.
I will disagree with you on this, it has been in existence before the time stipulated by you, I wasn't shocked when I read about the history of some western people preceding 1980 and saw the terms been used, it was not just a popular term and even as at then it was not widely accepted by them..

Granted, the baby mama and baby daddy trend may not have started with millennials but they have revamped and normalized it, to the point where some people now go online to publicly announce their baby daddy status and even post pictures of their children to strangers.

Millennials have amplified it so much I think it's safe to say they give it more life and force, than the generation it started with.

At least with older generations it was not a popular lifestyle to boast about, but now you see millennials actively embracing the lifestyle and making the most noise about it.

Whether they started it or not, they are breaking records and winning gold medals. I hail them o cheesy
You are very right but come to think of it, the power of social media, it takes things to a whole new level, whether good or bad.. It is the reason why we think things happen more nowadays compared to before but it's almost same ratio considering the population of now and then, and there are still so many people who will not conform to such even now..
The major difference between now and then is that, if it happens in a 100 different places we will likely hear about 80 of it instantly irrespective if the location and probably the remaining 20 cases before the week runs out compared to then when we might hear about only 20 to 30 and maybe many weeks or months after hear about another 10 of the already happened cases, so my point is with social media it makes it more pronounced and cases spread rapidly compared to days of old...
Note:I am referring to incidents generally and not just baby mama/daddy alone...
I grew up in a very large compound that stretched acroos two streets and things happened amongst adults, youth, and teenagers, not different from what is obtained now.

It has been since time immemorial in my own opinion, because how do you explain that my own grandfather that died at over 100yrs old. Had a baby mama while he was younger(she later got married), it was actually funny because that child my grandfather had came for the burial

Millennials. In the olden days baby mamas were mostly women who got married, had kids then got divorced, so they went from wife to ‘mother of my kids’ AKA baby mama.

Even in Canada, the rate of unmarried couples living together AKA live in couples has spiked by about 25% since the early 2000’s.

Back then, the only way people could have sex was either get married or pay for it, that isn’t the case for the millennials.

A few factors contributing to the spike in having children without the traditional marriage institution includes; Easy accessibility to sex, the cost of getting a divorce, cheating women, social media, feminism etc
