It's not even just the fact that he trapped the ball, he took too long to make the shot after trapping the ball.

Still on still, twas an exceptional piece of defending. Block of the season contender.

Reminds me of that off the line clearance stones made couple of seasons ago, ironically against same Liverpool. Arguably the moment which decided the title race.

Fabinho was struggling with a City player before the ball landed on his feet. It would take a very good striker to even think of playing it once. Nobody anticipated that Rodri would show up. Like Morata said, all these happened in less than a second.


Also, the angle was pretty tight to just any player to try a shot.

The block was super class. Many players would take that decision he did.

The big credit goes to Rodri for perhaps reading his thought that he'll trap it and immediately went for the sliding block before he could play it. Like you said, it was an exceptional block for a season contender, and the worst of all these is that when such a thing happens in favor of Man city against Liverpool, it always count favorably at the end of the season for Man city(in the title race). From that stones block to the Sané winner against Liverpool.
