With Victor Moses we won an ANC on his first try and totally annihilated Algeria and cameroun on the way to 2018 World Cup. Please, respect that man
Is it only Moses, what about Mikel Obi? We should also recall him, nonsense.

That's the issue my dear Elder Kog. We lack that aura of control and calm in the middle game. We are so predictable. A dictator makes things look smooth and easy on the ball. He switches plays and delivers swift Lines-breaking passes that can stun the opposition's Defensive structure in key moments of a game. We lack that.

What we have parading as Midfielders now are midfield hustlers, workrate merchants and box to box runners but all of these lack that bonafide Ball playing trait that is synonymous with true midfield orchestrators.

Truth is every midfield needs a mix of all kinds to have the right balance. We need the workrate/box to box athleticism, we need the defensive solidity but we also need the control. We need a Central Midfield dictator.

Every other Super Eagles era had them... why should this current generation be denied such by Gernot Rohr's constant ignorance of the midfield problem bedevelling our darling team? It is a big worry.

I feel this would also have been a good match for Kingsley to consolidate on his great first game. And really if an unexpected Kingsley did well, why not try the other upcoming midfielders we have, Nwobodo and Nwakali, Las las we go lose match or what could be worse than the loss we suffered today?

But I have a feeling they would have a better game on Sunday and win the game. Or maybe they can do us a favor, lose the match so Rohr can get fired.

Not necessarily sure we used all these excuses to defend Keshi back in the days, fact is, the blame rests squarely with the Coach, if you haven't been paid and you don't want to perform then resign and the pitch excuse, come on! We've played in worse before, not as if the nonsense long balls we were playing today even needed a good pitch anyways.

First football match watched in exactly 18months and Rohr decided to bless me with this

Meet the unknown Karl Namnganda, of C.A.R, who plays for French fourth tier side Vendee les Herbiers. Nobody is talking about his brilliance ghosting past our Oyibo wall to upset us in Lagos. He is certainly underrated. If not for his brilliance we would have taken one point going into Sunday's game. All hail the underrated Osimhen of C.A.R grin . At 25 he is definitely a late bloomer. Hopefully he makes it to Ligue 1 someday.

I no blame Rohr at the end of the day. Na our under-ambitious administrators I blame.

Rohr told Elegbete TV:
“When I was coming to Nigeria, I signed that the job is done if I don’t qualify for the World Cup, the second time I also signed that the job will be done if I don’t qualify for the AFCON and the third time I agreed that the job is done if we don’t do well at the AFCON,”

“You can only stay in a country if the results are good, you have to go if it isn’t. Some coaches won’t but I agreed.”

Abeg make Rohr fanboys pack well!! Dude has been praised when he did well and rightly criticized when he hasn't.
Today this dude was outclassed. Say what you want but CAR came with a plan which they executed perfectly.
I had a feeling they were going to score when Rohr took out Aribo and left Onyeka all alone in midfield. Musa had a decent Cameo but why play him as a 10? Why bring him into a situation where there was no space to operate?
We were there for the taking after Rohr's dumb substitutions and paid for it!!
Dude is playing 4-4-2 with the players he invited smh. We should've switched formation as soon as Iheanacho got substituted. There was no need for Awoniyi - Osimhen pairing in this game.
Rohr is obviously not going to get sacked. He'll stay till the end of the qualifiers and even AFCON. After that, we need to ask serious of not just Rohr but Pinnick and the whole NFF.
the only reason why he may not get the boot is because of the financial implications but if we don’t act now we stand to loose so much more on the long run

TheSuperNerd:
Why our attack struggled: Osimhen, Iheanacho (sub: Awoniyi), Simon and Ejuke.

Before I state why we struggled... let's have a small recap.

The game ended 0-1 and WE DIDN'T HAVE A SINGLE SHOT ON TARGET. WE didn't really trouble the CAR GK at all. What does that say?

It says many things. One is that our attack was rendered impotent.

But we did have a few chances. Most were half-Chances and none of these chances were created by our midfield. Bcoz our midfield created absolutely NOTHING.

The whole creative burden fell on the Wingers and the hustles of the strikers feeding off the scraps in the final third. And CAR knew we would use the wings. So they doubled up on our wingers making it hard to get through as often as we would have liked.

But we did on a few occasions through Osimhen's pace setting up Awoniyi twice but we couldn't get the goal. Awo tried because those chances weren't exactly clear cut. They were chances worked out via the industry of Osimhen.

Awo had another chance aerially which fell kindly for him from the right wing. An Aina cross but he didn't connect strongly.

But Our best chance of the game came via the creative genius of Ejuke who kept daring and probing to make something happen all game.

Ejuke cutting in, twisting on the ball, scanning any openings eventually found one and fed Osimhen in the second half and Osimhen took it in his stride to hit a strike that somehow rebounded off the post and fell for Awoniyi who couldn't finish. That was also a half chance and yep we couldn't convert.

Osimhen had his turns twice. One from a header which he didn't direct properly even though under pressure.

And another from a strike he mustered on his own from a quick turn using his weaker foot. It was close but not on target.

Simon Moses tried all he could to get some crosses in but they just weren't working.

Kelechi Iheanacho had one half and while he got a few good touches in and had a few attempts to make something happen, there was a sense of disconnect between himself and his attacking partners. He was neither here or there with respect to his role behind the striker. He is not one to interpret the #10 role properly because he is actually a hybrid. A Support Striker and a forward who can play off another forward.

But why did our attack really struggle?

It's simple. The Midfield failed going forward. And these are the connections...

▶️Our wings were the supposed source of creative potentials but it was cut off due to resolute strategic defending and a deep defensive block set-up by the CAR tactician.
They doubled up on our wingers reducing any chances of major creative actions from both sides in our favour. Ejuke did get through once or twice but that was it.

▶️With the wings cut off, the midfield didn't step up to the creative plate. We laboriously moved the ball about without any true penetrative passing or Lines-breaking passing moment. No quick transitions... No intense or swift switch of plays which normally should have cracked the organizational wall of the CAR defensive blocks.

▶️With the Wings cut off and the Midfield practically creating nothing in terms of Forward passing or Lines-breaking passing or tempo plays, the attack got cut off from supply, and it left the likes of Osimhen feeding off the scraps by dropping off to the channels a few times to use his pace and ball carrying ability to get forward and try make something happen. Could have worked as he created two chances but it didn't in the end.

This also caused Awoniyi to drop deeper to link up the play and still having to run back into the final third to try connect with or finish off any Attacking move in offensive transitions.

Our attackers were starved and overworked all because we had a Zero-Creativity and Poor Ball playing Midfield.

▶️Our attack will continue to suffer until we get the right midfield balance.

In a three man midfield, the right balance will always have:

1. The CAM (Creative hub) that operates between the lines in the space between the DMF and the CBs of the opposition. We have that in Iwobi.
Akinkunmi Amoo is one for the future in this role as well.

2. The CDM (Defensive shield) that holds the midfield and acts as the base of stability, composure, calm and solidity in front of the defence. He is the World Class Shield of the Middle game. We have that in Ndidi. Backup could be Onyeka.

3. The Ball Playing Central Midfield dictator (CM) who orchestrates the team's plays, dictates the tempo and effortlessly links midfield and attack in smooth transitions. He lines-break with his passing, deliver forward passes from deep, switches play at will with long balls and Vision and also contributes defensive shifts that complement the CDM while also offering creativity that complements the CAM.
Lads such as Alhassan Yusuf, Kelechi Nwakali, Ovie Ejaria and one or two others fit the bill soundly, technically and tactically.

Our midfield needs this balance.... BADLY.

Even In a 4-4-2, a CDM and Ball playing CM works just as well. You just have to get the personnel right.

This is why our attack struggled. And it is all Rohr's fault. He has never addressed this anomaly in our Middle game.

We boast only Midfield Runners, Workrate Merchants, box to box midfield operators with not much ball playing nous, and defensive MF walls.... but we lack the one piece that completes our Midfieled. That piece is a Ball playing, high technical Midfield dictator with top passing ability that line-breaks, oils the wheels of our passing game and directs the tempo

If I can see this, analyse this and be proven right time and time again in our games most especially this one we lost quite badly, then what in the hell and the heavens is Rohr doing? We have a huge midfield problem and it needs to be fixed. And Only the right personnel can solve this.

Our need for midfield dictators is glaring and cannot be overemphasized.
But i tell you the truth, Rohr doesn't need them, because of the way he sets up his team.
He sets up his team to play like underdogs, that is, sit deep, and then break on the counter.

Whenever we meet smaller teams that cannot match us toe to toe, we have all the possession but will not know what to do with it.
So it is either we pass the ball around without any plan on how to break down the opponent, or we hoof the ball like Ekong does and then lose ourselves to the frenzy.

To break down oppositions we need to understand and interpret space, and movements around this spaces, It is this coordinated movements in space that opens up passing channels that can be exploited to hew down the opposition. Vital to implementing this, are midfield players who are quick In making creative decisions, who are blessed with good vision and adept at short and long range passing.

If Rohr doesn't change his orientation and consider doing much calculation planning and drilling before games, then he should be comfortable coaching countries whose fifa rankings are above 100 because he will get good results with them, he will lose games, but not with a wide margin. Every coach will always give results with a certain calibre of squads.

So Nerdie you can gift Rohr superb midfield dictators, and you might end up blaming the midfield orchestrator who wasn't even shown a plan.

Why don't you drop the stats for that year and compare that of Ndidi with other DMs?

Did I say Moses was Chelsea player that year? I said he was an important member of the squad... You can't deny that fact cus it was made clear! Iwobi was starting games for arsenal... All that support your logic of having players in top teams, so why are you trying to run away from it?
Your darling Rohr was presented with an opportunity to send a tired Argentina home and clinch the round of 16 ticket, but in the usual fashion,he bottled it...

Trash talk the players all you want...after this international break, they will return to their clubs and churn out decent performance...Then by November, your darling Rohr will gather them again and make them play inshallah football...

As if you can do any better ! As head coach.

The long throw ins continued into the second half ..Since they proved inefficient, Rohr should have told them to stop... but it continued... So it's either Rohr didn't have the balls to tell them to stop it or it was his instructions..

But you see, normally long balls and long throw ins are tactics some teams employ when they are facing superior opponents...Our style of play in both halves was just the same..Rohr made CAR look superior...
Balls to tell them.

Those tactics could have worked with better execution. The plan was to use long balls and throwings to the winger to upend their low block . sadly, we didn't have people like VVD who do it for Liverpool.

We sadly forget that top team struggle to score against low blocks so u need long passes to ur forward. If it was not working , what were u expecting from Rohr to do next considering the absence of quality AM?

He did the reasonable thing by bringing in attacker who can create in Musa. That it didn't work out is not due to any RoHr tactical inefficiency

Playing with big players in your national team to an extent develops players because they train in 3 days to play with people from different soccer leagues.

Now my question, Did Enrique develop Gavi or give him a chance?

Is the duty of Rohr to make Ekong a ball playing CB in 3 days trainings every international break?

How can Rohr develop Nwakali to a proper AM if his club coaches continues playing him in CDM

Rohr should have been sacked after the 2018 World Cup. He setup the team to lose in all three games we played and we were rightly bundled out. What irked me the most was him not knowing how to frustrate the Argentines with time-wasting subs close to end of the game. Told myself unless Rohr was sacked, I was done with Super Eagles. His downward decline is no surprise.
Rohr is gradually becoming a drag back to this team. His lack of foresight and intelligence is eating deep into our players' productivity.

Build-up and General Offensive Principles

When building out the back, United have a wider range of variations compared to last season. For instance, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is more often used as a third centre back than last season in order to mask his flaws going forward (we shall speak about this again later on in this piece).

I took an example from the game against West Bromwich Albion. United formed a back three with Wan-Bissaka as the third centre back while Juan Mata provided a passing lane by dropping in United’s half. Now that Nemanja Matić has dropped deeper, Wan-Bissaka can take a higher position which pushes Mata further up the pitch and inside.

The only reason why I am opening blogs because you are arguing basic knowledge. When I watch teams, the first thing I want to see is how comfortable they are building from the back. Italy does it brilliantly. A big key is midfield movement to work with defenders.

Solksjaer has been doing it since Cardiff. You can't say Solksjaer can't build from the back. Italy with Veratti and Jorginho can't build from the back. What are you saying? You are so off.

I don't know Amunike from Jupiter but I will give you my reason for his pick.

I believe wholeheartedly in possessive offensive football. My top two coaches today are Guardiola and Enrique who play it in fantastic form. A lot of teams are adopting it and if you don't your team will get left behind.

So Amunike knows the art inside out. Played the system at Barcelona, trained in coaching under the same philosophy.

So he remains my favorite pick. Finidi stays second because he played the system under Van Gaal in Ajax and did his coaching training in Spain under the system.

We have not grown an inch when it comes to football play. People just celebrate results that we have passed long time ago.

Are these people as good as you are hyping them . Aeteta trained under Guardiola( he even speaks 3 languages), today, he is a poor man Ole

There are tens of statement u made parroting Oliseh as the best thing after Carri

Lemme leave this one with u saying that we have found a replacement for Victor Moses.
