It all depend on what is counted. Look for any estate of Nairobi. The main arterty is counted...all the roads inside the estates are paved..and they are not counted. They are private roads. Nairobi will not allow you to build a house unless you have paving plan...there are few areas where people just build...whatever they want...West Africa style.

I know Nairobi inside out - I can tell you where you will find unpaved roads - and where you wont.

Look for drones - look at the roads.

Nairobi city has very few unpaved roads. Nairobi metro is different ball game. That is where Nairobi Metro need 10-15yrs to catch up with Gauteng.

What drives who? Do hardware get better on it's own or to meet exacting software needs. I believe complex software that need to solve complex problems in few seconds are driving hardware.

Tech will continue to be run from Silicon Valley - not the Taiwan. Its start from human brains goes into software then hardware is built to meet those needs.

You dont start building a super computer then build software for it. You build hardware to respond to software needs. Software conceptualize and crystalize complex real life problems into hardware tasks.

Out of curiosity let's say Nigeria gets a good leader and economic growth is highest in the world, budget increases to 90 billion dollars and over 50 000km of road are being paved across the nation along with 5 000km of railways would you the Kenyans be willing to admit that Nigeria is better then Kenya at that point in time or will you continue your waffling?

I believe I speak for many Kenyans. I use to think Nigeria is very developed. In fact I was very proud of NIgeria. I use to think maybe they are just like India - with wandering spirit. My euraka moment was a thread written - Nairobi - east africa city - and I was taken aback by how Nigeria thought Nairobi was so developed without oil. Then I started digging. Then I had seen nollywood, nigeria growth of 10 percent per annum, oil, name it.

What will make Kenyans and rest of world respect Nigeria. Simple. Nigeria has to behave like a proper country. Nigeria have to be so happy with Nigeria they will even stop moving abroad.

It is not about hardware alone - it about software too. If you build the roads - you need to maintain them. There is no point building a road that you cannot even cut grass around it. I have seen Nigeria roads..very depressing. You cannot even trim grass on the tarmac. Look at any kenya road video....look at the grass...the bushes..trimmed..cleared...potholes fixed..name it.

These not even basics.

BASICS is to get EVERY NIGERIAN kid back to school. Social Investment in people education and healthcare. THIS IS WHERE GHANA DOES WELL. They dont do the hardware but admittedly they try HCI part.

My first time I landed in nairaland was thread named - Nairobi east africa city - that was time when I thought Nigeria got it shiet together - it had overtaken south africa - from nollywood I could see nice houses - nice people - we loved nigeria football - nigeria seem to really hold it shiet together - annual growth of 10 percent - they were beaming pictures of future dubai like cities.

By the time that thread got to 100 pages...I had seen enough of Nigeria...crazy cities to realize it was another DRC CONGO. It was not Zimbwabwe - with few issues..but generally brilliant progressive people. Give me Zimbwabwe anytime.

Kenya Road Boards - is KENHA, KURA and KERRA. They cannot come to estate or neighberhood and measure the private roads. Maybe in South Africa they do. It very simple. Let me know which part of Nairobi you want to see...and you can show me unpaved roads. Within Nairobi city - only unplanned areas have unpaved roads.
