I’m just an amateur and new to tech skills even though i was interested in it but my lack of a role model and someone to put me through discourage my interest.
Now with the little i have seen, my exposure and from the pool of materials in my hand, I’ve been able to discover a clear path to thread to acquire this IT skills
Now my question is, which of the two courses ( data science and software development) will you choose or recommend for an amateur like me to delve into considering how lucrative they are and the chances of suceeding in those field especially in far away countries.
Please I really need your sincere recommendation. I’ll be glad to hear your reasoning.

Hey Mensa, imo, software engineering would be best. It'll be easier to pick up data science concepts when you already understand computer science.

No one can give gou any straight answer. Software development is intensive as data science. It is about you. How determined you are. Stop allowing people to dictate what you should do.


You duty is to research the syllabus of the two. Map of the road to achieving both. Sit down and see which you sre more interested in. The roadmap is your guide. Research it. Know step A to Z you need to take.

It's like asking people which vehicle or brand is more fun to drive. Audi or BMW? Benz or Porshe? You need to experience it yourself before you can decide. Also, look at the opportunities in both.

If been "lucrative" is what is driving you then neither of them is right for you. Some of us got into computing when Computer Science was seen as a course for dropouts and rejects from other courses. Money wasn't the motivation. It still isn't the motivation. Granted it pays OK now. But pecuniary gains was never why I personally got into computing

Go for Software development.
But, it seems that field is more saturated compared to Data science.

So, Data science might pay more, due to less competition.
