Do you even understand the term independent means? He was discussing issues of economics amongst other government officials yet you are yapping about what now? Do you think the government just spew directives willy nilly at CBN?

As he told you, CBN is independent. That answers the question. No one can help you beyond that.

You are fond of asking kindergaten level questions thinking you are smart, no one here should have to pay for your lack of attention to details during your formative years. Go back to school and stop derailing threads where matured people are discussing matters of national importance grin

The federal government lead by pbm and Osibanjo is the problem with foreign exchange!!! The federal government is the highest spender in Nigeria from it ministries to agencies and Co, if the government can reduce or cut it's appetite for foreign made product from cars, furniture, cloths, drinks and so on it will reduce the pressure on the dollar we get from crude oil sale and our naira will appreciate drastically

VP did not call for Naira devaluation. He only called for an official rate reflective of market reality. The current dual exchange rates allows for arbitrage and blocks inflow/supply of dollars from investors.

To kill your curiousity, watch the video below

Lol. And this isn't a devaluation? Okay let's call it a "right-valuation"...revalue it to market realities
Re: Why Osinbajo Advocates Forex Policy That Curbs Arbitrage & Corruption by drills: 8:05pm On Oct 12, 2021
A wrong signal from the VP. The only end results will be worsen FOREX condition as folks will decide to hold USD with the intent to exchange at a devalued rate, leaders should learn when to make public statements as they may be sending wrong signals

Unless we fix our balance of trade deficit and develop a strategy that prevents Nigerians from dollarizing her economy, any devaluation will lead to further arbitrage between the False black market rate AND CBN.

Prof Osinbajo was trying to call the attention of the CBN governor to those who buy at official rates and sell at the parallel market which allows them make huge profit at the expense of unsuspecting Nigerians.

He's right.

That's the challenge of round tripping which we should stop.

He's educated and knowledgeable. So, he's not playing politics.

I want to believe he would have sacked CBN governor if he has his way.

Remember he was against CBN governor on crypto currency issue. That forced CBN governor to come up with Nigerian crypto.

This dollar business needs to check. The CBN governor needs to know that directives from his office will not address the issue. Even Staff within CBN might be facilitating the arbitrage, some have stakes in Bureau de change. Such persons have little incentives to challenge the status quo

It seems ignorance will make some people suggest the closing of BDC's & Banks at this rate. Why are we mystifying dollars to sprits ?.
The day we start consuming made in Nigeria goods, that's when Naira will gain strength.
