Yes just to add. As regards the IT thing. Be prepared to do lots of interviews to nail an offer. Nothing is guaranteed. Please don’t celebrate having an interview. Don’t even celebrate your second stage. Or your technical or even the coding challenges or take home assesments. The worst is those test gorilla where camera will be on. Or those ones where 2 guys are watching as you code. Trying to poke holes in every thing your code. Offer letter is the koko just take your interviews as learning stage. Everyone can say data science this and that, why not django developer, or devops. But e go shock you how them they reject. But you just have to keep going. Another pro tip for places like amazon, google and facebook don’t apply for more than 2 job openings on their sites. When you do get an interview and unsuccessful. You need to wait atleast 6 months (amazon), facebook (I think 3) before making another application. You can scatter your cvs up and down but don’t apply to these big companies like a mumu. Even if you change email, algorithms dey to flag you out. check www.itjobswatch.co.uk Here you get a break down of tech jobs in uk. Also check glassdoor. For glassdoor download the mobile app i think its more convienient and you can read about the interview and company info. 12 Likes 4 Shares |

Aphrodite007: Good idea. But they want sponsorship. I dont think civil service sponsors. For those with papers navigating civil service or tech jobs should be a breeze with solid experience. |

mrcodebreaker: I don’t agree. CELEBRATE everything. You left a country with no opportunity to a foreign place, why shouldn’t you celebrate your first call, or interview or second interview? We get more with thanksgiving. Also, my friend that grew up here and is a head of his department celebrates being called for interview, just because he is happy to be interviewed, even if for just the experience. Let’s learn to not be entitled. Tech is great, tech is easier to get into. Also, you’re human, celebrate your little wins. 11 Likes |

mrcodebreaker:Please can you throw more light on this? I think I am currently having this issue with Amazon. I an an unsuccessful interview with them a fe years ago and ever since I have not gotten any. My friends have sent in countless referrals but no success. I even asked them to delete my data under GDPR and they declined, used a different email (Mumu like me) without success. Please if you can tell me what's happening, I will appreciate it. |

mrcodebreaker: Guy, career wise I’m top , but I’m still happy to go for interviews so I can learn one more question to train my Mentees or one more things to teach my work staff. Let’s not spite humble beginnings please. Celebrate any and every win. Simple. 4 Likes |

LagosismyHome: It was short. Less than 180 days in 5 yrs. I honestly didn’t think one would be asked for proof that periods of absence was authorised by employer. However, my friend’s application was delayed because they requested she sends a letter from employer covering a period of absence of about 2 weeks @justwise |

jtech17: Just like you, I was busy asking, re-asking early this year about coming here. But men I am here now, met fellow Nigerians here who don't know nairaland self, I hear their own version of life. I can adjure that health sector is the weath here. Even my fellow IT student are working as careworker and jostling to get the NHS care work And it is the sector that most willing to sponsor. I conclude the best bet is to come as couple cos the white chicks has zero attention for us, I see it every day. Then do not look at the Nigerian lady with paper cos the guys who got in with them here feel like a prisoner in Nigeria. It just not an easy life. But in all you just have to experience it yourself to make your own assessment. 6 Likes |

Mamatukwas: Re the ordinary/standard (i.e. non fast track) process, my cousin told me that they appear to work fast when you eventually get an appointment to come for "capturing"; he told me his wife's came out (as in got to them in Manchester by post) in about 10 days after that time. But it was getting the appointment that took time. He paid for fast-track and got his passport within about 5 working days. Fast-track is still on at the HC; he went in on Tuesday last week. |
