It looks tasty my dear. I think you tried. I also made mine this evening, was biting my tongue and fingers while eating cos its too delicious. Bitter leaf soup is my favourite soup, but one needs to be a skillful cook to get it right and delicious. |

Truly the soup doesn't look like real bitter leaf soup. It look watery. Original bitter leaf soup is cooked with firewood not gas as the taste is different. Bitter leaf soup is one of the most difficult soup to cook in ibo land and those that cook it must have nothing less than ten years experience. It's not Amala and ewedu. The leaf is not sun dried and therefore it cuts into pieces like sliced ugu. Original bitter leafs used in making the soup must be long , whole, unsliced and soft 1 Like |

ablejesus26: I’m spelling Owere the correct (native) way. Owerri is but an Anglicisation, my friend. Na semi-literate I go be for correctly spelling the likes of Awka and Enugu as Oka and Enu[-u]gwu? 1 Like |

Ndi Owere no be our mates, jor. We can vibe with you when we have to but Anambra (and to a certain extent Enugu) have to lead the roost as far as mainstream Igbo matters are concerned. If Anambra and Imo are truly mates in a food context then why the hell can no one other than seasoned Imolites list any of your soups besides ofe Owere (and I presume it’s not the whole of Imo State who even regards that ofe as one of their staples) and plain old ugba (ordinary to add small abacha, una no gree)? Why are most popular Igbo-specific dishes (abacha salad, ofe onugbu, ofe nsala, isi ewu, nkwobi, etc.) at least more associated with the Anambra-Enugu-Enuani (northern Igbo) area? I’m not saying ofe Owerri is a bad soup. It just can’t seriously be compared to onugbu. 1 Like |

I’m not saying you guys don’t cook well at all, by the way. You guys just aren’t in the same league as Anambra and never will be unless a nwanya Anambra shows you how to cook correct onugbu and nsala. And even then some Imolites struggle to learn. My auntie Ngozi from Nkwerre cooks some of the best food (ukwa, pepper soup, jollof rice and correct torotoro) and I’d actually rather eat her food than patronise many Anambra kitchens I know (and I feel like Imo probably does somewhat better with rice and okra soup than most of Anambra) but she’s more an exception than the norm (possibly because Nkwerre people often have Awka admixture in them anyway). I feel like that Anambra-Imo region between Awka and Nkwerre (including Orlu) is very okay as far as indigenous food goes. Owerri people don’t seem to know anything other than ofe Owerri (and even Owere mamas themselves can’t decide whether it should be more like ora, uziza or ugu soup) and the less said about Mbaise, the better so I’m not even going to attempt shade there. |
