Poverty is a major problem in Nigeria and people are trying to manage resources ;so, they go for the cheapest option if at all they are not doing self help. Govt should come up with health insurance scheme that can accommodate the poor or better still, improve the standard of primary health care and make primary health care free but i know this is too much for nigerian politicians to provide for the people . May God raise men and women that would sanitize the political space and give Nigerians good leadership and he he also give the majority of nigerians sense so they do not remain foolish when electing their leaders 2 Likes |

Victorclean1: Don't take this personal. As a lawyer I presume good command of English is a prerequisite. " Am not a nurse...". Really? What happened to I am/I'm? I've seen someone type " Are my coming there?" for "Am I coming there?" 2 Likes |

Victorclean1: You have comprehension problems young lady. The OP communicated with the nurse. If she didn't identify herself as one, he wouldn't have referred to her as one. Also, he didn't paint nurses black. There are fake and unqualified "professionals" in every profession. He is only bringing to light the menace of quack nurses because of his experience. We have read and heard of cases where fake lawyers were apprehended by the police. Same thing with fake soldiers and policemen. Meanwhile, you use the adjective "real" to qualify nurse in your write-up. You didn't leave it at "nurse". You doing this makes you same with the OP. He only used a different or negative adjective to qualify his noun so as to differentiate properly. The opposite of "real nurse" is "fake nurse" and fake equals quack. 3 Likes |

truthCoder:Why are you being “clever by half “? You opined that those Drs remaining in Nigeria are incompetent and I tackled you . You are now running from pillar to posts yapping about owing hospitals . How does it relate to your earlier baseless and infantile assumption . It’s you who needs lessons in Comprehension. |

Victorclean1: I sensed a bit of sarcasm in your write-up, but in any case, generalized statements can’t pass the defamatory test, even if they are bad. One of the four elements of a defamation case is, you must prove absolutely that, the statement is false and you were particularly harmed by it. If I say ‘Nurses these days are quack’….depending on your sample size, sample location, sample ages, schools attended, work experience, etc….the statement can be false or true. And, it is absolutely true that, ‘some Nurses are quack’, no defamation there. Plus, you can sue for defamation as a class or a member of a class, the speech or write up must be direct to you in particular….if I say ‘all men cheats’….a member of the class ‘men’ who does not cheat, cannot sue me, because the speech was not directed at him personally. |

deepdeep: Scabies is a stubborn skin disease. Try immersing your fingers and legs in hot saline water for a start, then Google up creams to treat its mites. If you can afford it, dispose of your entire clothes presently. If you can't, dry clean them over and over and keep up with the hot salt water. |

You tried in guiding the woman appropriately cos there are so many quacks in the medical field. But really there is a brand of ciprofloxacin with the trade name ciproxin. Its made by Bayer and regarded to be of a higher quality than other brands, just the way people regard Augumentin of been superior to other amoxicillin clavulanate brands. (Quote author=Dozis post=106380098]So today in the Pharmacy, a lady came in with a written note to buy the following antibiotics. Perfloxacin 2 "Cipro infusion" 6 "Ciproxin tablets" 2 Rocephin 6. On seeing the note I wasn't comfortable, I asked her who the drugs were meant for, she said it's for herself, I then asked her who prescribed it and she said a nurse, I asked her to call the nurse that I want to speak with her to know why she wants to give all these antibiotics to one person, maybe all the bacteria in the world are having a conference in the lady's body. Not that the the one she wrote "Ciproxin" is ciprofloxacin and Cipro infusion is also ciprofloxacin but meant for intravenous use (these nurses usually call it Ciproxin or Cipro), Ciprofloxacin and Perfloxacin are the same class of drugs with similar mechanism of action, (same Pharmacology) just some differences in their chemical structures, so basically this "nurse" wants to give one drug in two different forms (Ciproxin tablets and Cipro infusion) with another similar drug (Perfloxacin) to one person and don't forget Rocephin (Ceftriaxone) which is another powerful antibiotic. So the nurse was called, I introduced myself as the pharmacist that wants to sell the drugs she wrote down for a patient and that I'm not comfortable with the patient taking all these at the same time, that it could cause more harm than good, she told me that the patient ran some infection tests and that those drugs she wrote are the ones that was recommended by the lab results. Now let me explain what happened here, the lady ran some infection tests and the laboratory scientist also ran what is called antibiotic sensitivity tests to determine the most appropriate antibiotic to use for treatment, this helps doctors to go straight and prescribe the suitable antibiotic, just like hitting the bull's eye without beating about the bush. So this nurse told me that according to the lab results, that the lady is supposed to use all the antibiotics that showed sensitivity, at this point my jaw dropped, I tried to let her know that she's making a mistake, she now told me to give the lady only "Ciproxin" I sold only a pack of Ciprofloxacin to the lady and told her this pack will suffice for whatever treatment she wants and that has needs further evaluation, she should go to a clinic and see a proper doctor. She said she was directed to the woman because she has a good reputation of treating people of infections and they get pregnant afterwards, so it was a case of child bearing. She left with the drugs and came back about thirty minutes later, that the "nurse" said that what I gave her was not Ciproxin, I collected my drugs back and refunded her appropriately. God knows I tried. Her case was not the first and it definitely would not be the last, I see it everyday, nothing stops me from selling all those drugs and pocketing the money, but I have a duty which i also swore to, to protect and educate people on the dangers of drug misuse, that "Aunty Nurse" that learnt "nursing" on the roadside instead of going to school, that did freedom instead of graduation is who people prefer to patronise instead of going to hospital to get a proper care. Sewasaunt: My dear I have seen even highly educated professionals like lawyers and engineers believing in quacks. One lecturer nearly died from taking herbal concoctions. God saved him by making his children insist on bringing him to the hospital. The worst is when I see pregnant professionalS going to give birth in a quack’s maternity home. A million and one things could go wrong but they seem so ignorant yet very educated. |

What of the cases of TBA's(traditional birth attendants), I have seen cases that involves both educated and uneducated folks,my wife just gave birth to my first child then,I was at the hospital gate waiting for a friend when I saw a taxi parked and he help a very heavily pregnant lady out of the taxi and excited her past the gate he then went back to his car and sped off,out of curiosity I followed the lady and I noticed her gown was stained behind(I think I was blood) I saw she couldn't walk well I had to assist her to the bench then I quickly ran an called the nurses, when she was questioned ,with pains over her she said she had been in labour since 11pm since yesterday (the time was around 10:30am) that tba nurse after trying with prayers etc bundled her and her bags into the taxi so as to take her to the hospital,to cut the story short she lost baby ,the baby has been dead for some time before she arrived at the hospital.all these because the tba came highly recommended 1 Like |

Please, I have been battling with infection (staph) for years now. Have taken injections and tablets even nironem ( dont know actual pronunciation nor spelling) yet no cure. My dad almost lost one of his eyes cos of the incompetence n inefficiency of doctors in luth... You go to some hospitals to complain of malaria n you see doctors issuing chloroquine phosphate....when even the W.HO. has advised against the use of the drug cos of the several side effects n the availability of better drugs for the treatment of malaria...... Lagusta:That's the bitter truth.. getting a degree just gives an edge over the RN and even auxiliary nurses coz fact is they do basically the same thing. A nursing degree holder has the license to open a hospital or clinic while a RN or auxiliary cannot. Anything asides that, I feel they just went to university to spend unnecessary five years studying things that just require a few weeks of training and you're good to go. |
