How comes you never stopped Mauritus with your hunting arrow when they not only overtook South Africa but have become Africa 1st developed country - with GDP per capita more than twice South Africa.

Your GDP per capita is stuck at 5000 usd. Kenya in next 5yrs will probably double it's own to 4,000 - and will join Upper Middle Class - and will be like South Africa for all practical reasons.

jl115:
Kenya will overtake SA in about 100 years.... Not in terms of per capita but yes eventually in terms of sheer size of your economy driven by your population growth..... Just like Nigeria wink

But just like Nigeria, Kenya will forever be behind SA in terms of the things that actually matter, like infrastructure, wealth per capita, gdp per capita, hdi, technology ect ect wink

5G roll-out gathers pace in Africa: #SouthAfrica is leading the charge, but other major telecoms markets in #Africa (Kenya and Seychelles) are keen to fast-track their ambitions and will contribute to a larger pool of #5G services in late 2021 and 2022

South Africa - $415 billion / 60m

GDP per capita is $6916

When you say developed you mean index of life expectancy, education and per capita income? Or you mean what smiley

Nominal gdp lower than 1100usd - Least developed country - DRC Congo
Nominal gpd per capita of 1100usd or about - threshold to below Lower Middle Income - Kenya
Nominal gdp of 4000 to 12000 - Upper middle class - South Africa
Nominal gdp above 12,000 is developed country - the entry point - Mauritus/Seychelles have hit there.

That is according to IMF/WB

South Africa GDP 2020 301.9 /60m = 5000usd.

End of this year - it will projected to be 400/60=roughly 6700usd.

Which infrastructure is in Accra? The small sewage network in CBD has been discontinued. The city is plagued with dumsor power cuts. Everywhere is dumpsite right to the beaches - the country is choking in plastic bags - and everywhere is hawker selling everything on earth - most of which are imported goods. Maybe the donated George Walker Bush Highway? Outside few areas - the rest is unplanned hodgepodge of buildings.

Give me Abdijan and Dakar any day. I think Ivory Coast is the most promising country in the entire west africa. Their civil war set them back 10yrs but they are back on track. Next would be senegal. Ghana is all talk and no show - it failed the kazikazi picture test.

Ghana only look good when compared with Nigeria. But Ivory Coast and Senegal are more progressive and promising.

Okay grin

Despite Ghana being almost arable - and with so many minerals - you have almost as serious poverty as kenya - which is barren semi-arid and arid - and with no minerals.

No No.

On this platform the country with the most poorest citizens is none other than Kenya

But as for minerals, Ghana is not to blame for Kenyans inability to maximize profit on its minerals... Your half baked elites should be blamed not Ghanaians

Continue.

I can assure you Ivory Coast is doing well.
It was ahead of Ghana in so many areas some years ago but not anymore..

I wanted @Popzaino to help us with the so called development of Ivory Coast but as usual he bolted, just the coward he is.

That you still have povery of 19 % with gold for all those centuries in a sacrielege. When it come to gdp per capita - kenya and ghan are now pretty close - the same with HDI.

Face your front, Ghana cannot be blamed for Kenya's inability to make profit from it's natural resources.

Nearly every country that has minerals like Ghana has got out poverty except in parts of Africa. Even countries with 1 million people do it even faster. Minerals give you the capital - for free - required to lift people out of poverty - by investing in people, infrastructure and their business.

Ghana GDP by end of this year will be 75b divided by 31M people (recent census). Kenya will be 109B against 50B - so it about 2400 versus 2200.

First of all lift the over 20 million poor Kenyans out of poverty.

Maximize profit on your minerals then come back and tell us all the rubbish you wrote up there

When a country is 12 000 it simply means it's higher income class... Just like a country Gabon is not so developed but its gdp per capita was hovering around 11 000 at some point

Yes there are outliers like those oil rich countries that tend to inflate the gdp - but generally it's pretty good measure of progress.

Development is a whole package not some narrow view of gdp per capita or HDI

It's complex. I'm glad we don't have to argue over this

People are driven to the informal economy out of poverty. Not by choice. It cannot be an economy policy. It's the default - you will find people hawking or eking out a living in the streets out of poverty. That is why your poverty data need to be relooked.

I a country like Kenya where everything is monopolies by a few people, that will be true but here, it is not.

Here, people are driving into retailing because of the sheer size of the retail sector and how profitable it is.
My poverty data is comprehensively correct as it reveals the true service nature of my economy hence why even COVID could not deal with my economy like it did yours

That's not really the case the commodity prices were up in 2010 however in 2021 is economy has diverse more, by 2030 platinum will be phased out. South Africa economy is a service driven economy much like those of developed countries.

Again that was mainly driven by bad governance + dipped commodity prices.

But we on a ne trajectory now by year end we will be over 7000 in gdp per capita+ more spectrum+data centers+roads+new cities+green energy+things are looking up smiley

true buda Abidjan is a lovely city am watching it's videos n looking at it's pictures on skyscrapercity waah it's breathtaking to me it's the most developed west African city guess it's underrated in Anglophone Africa due to language barrier with francophone Africa most English speaking African countries only talk of, or know Lagos n to some extend Accra like me here never considered Abidjan will save some mulla n visit it next year looks like a nice laid back city esp that drive by the ocean is amazing they just need to remake it into a nice promenade like Luanda Angola

Abidjan is not underated by Anglophone West African's.. The truth is, Abidjan and Dakar in the 90's were the best cities in West Africa.. Infact, some people were calling those cities "the Paris of Africa". But for some years now these cities have not seen much development like it did in the 70's,80's and the 90's..

When you compare Abidjan-Dakar of the 90's-. to 2021, then Accra and Lagos of the 90's to 2021, Accra and Lagos have seen much development than Abidjan and Dakar.

Those two Francophone cities are well organized than Accra and Lagos but the later are very much developed and mordenized than the former.

Who says forever? If Nigeria got 8 years of proper leadership like a Thabo Mbeki type of leader or a Deng or a Lee Kuan Yew or even an Awolowo we'd develop so rapidly South Africa would be left in the dust very quickly

I'm talking housing deficit gone
Power problems gone
Water problems gone

Nigeria's problems really aren't that difficult to solve if we could get a decent leader things would change and we're likely going to get one in 2023 with Moghalu as president

Even by 2025, your GDP will not catch up with that of Morocco if they even stop growing.....
South Africas GDP was at 136.4 billion while Nigeria's was at 69.45 in the year 2000 ..8 yrs later Nigeria overtook SA by more than 50 billion .
What was the growth rate of Nigeria in the 8 yr period?
