Just30: When I say Accra I'm referring to the entire Greater Accra because there is no difference between the two. People are so profit minded in Accra aND it is wild .... Bright Simons was just comparing the price of tomatoes in Accra and New York as well as farm gate prices and boy, market women are rich in Ghana.. No No Accra refers to the city called Accra whereas Greater Accra Region refers to the entire Cities, towns and villages in the Greater Accra Region. One is a City and the other is a region, they are not the same. |

I agree just30. I think it’s time to introduce price controls in Ghana. People just quote prices anyhow and it is appalling. Just30: |

mtisTheQubit:The problem of these African nations is they have very weak institutions. They are failing big time on data collection, all their data are just estimated. It's not a surprise to see an African nation having a sound economy on paper, but on ground, they even lack a city which their whole economy is orchestrated from. SA is quite different though. They have a GDP, and also they have things on ground. But these other bastards with over faked figures are a big joke.Go to some nations and see how backward, how primitive they are.See how they lack the life's necessities,e.g drinking water & healthcare. 2 Likes |

vaxx: Ghana is not the only country with the informal sector as the backbone of her economy,in fact I'm sure 85% of sub-Saharan African countries depend on the informal sector and their capital cities doesn't come off as market centres like Accra.None of the countries ghana claim to look up to look like market centres,I mean Singapore and Norway . The informal trading are always cramped in big market places like you have kejetia. Accra metropolitan authorities should look to build such big markets in every District of the city to take off these mess from the street. This concept isn't alien to the cities you claim to be more developed than. If you want develop, do it like the rest of the world, don't claim development when you are still doing things like you have in stone age. Accra should depict herself as the been the administrative centre of an oil and gold rich nation not looking like open air market. 3 Likes |

vankelvin:yap that's what entails a real developed city good organization of industrial zones, residential zones and commercial zones eg cbds with a good road network n NMT and a good skyline (urban planning) to top it up otherwise you get when a city is disorganized even when it grows n develops it becomes a slumpolis , no matter how developed it will be due to lack of zoning rules where anything goes so definitely i will go with organized cities where there is a clear zoned areas where slums are clearly defined from other residential areas n can be eliminated gradually not a mix mash of slums n good residences in one neighborhood which can be tricky to develop due to varied interests so will stick with Abidjan.... thanks n cheers mate 1 Like |

I think this is the biggest challenge we face today in Ghana. People just wake up and quote crazy prices. The authorities need to wake up! People are “forced” to pay for them not because they have too much money, in my opinion. Just30: 1 Like |

Just30: Just 30 you have to come down with the high prices of things, it is really unfortunate the Ghanaian cedi is strengthening versus the US dollar but prices of basic commodities is still going up. One of the biggest push for price increases is the debit on most countries. Look at Nigeria when you spend 100 naira at least 80 Naira goes to servicing debt. |

Choices don’t exist when everyone is caught in the frenzy of increasing prices. They see it as smart way to get ahead, but everyone suffers in the end. Trust me, this is a very dangerous trend. Ghana is the only country I know where people increases just because they feel like it. What choice do you have if you need the item or service? The govt should begin to orientate the people or we may end up like our unfortunate neighbors to the east Just30: 1 Like |
