Ghana is not the only country with the informal sector as the backbone of her economy,in fact I'm sure 85% of sub-Saharan African countries depend on the informal sector and their capital cities doesn't come off as market centres like Accra.None of the countries ghana claim to look up to look like market centres,I mean Singapore and Norway grin. The informal trading are always cramped in big market places like you have kejetia. Accra metropolitan authorities should look to build such big markets in every District of the city to take off these mess from the street. This concept isn't alien to the cities you claim to be more developed than. If you want develop, do it like the rest of the world, don't claim development when you are still doing things like you have in stone age. Accra should depict herself as the been the administrative centre of an oil and gold rich nation not looking like open air market.

Coming from a person who is seeking asylum in Ghana? So weird.

I think Buhari will need this advice of yours so why don't you go and tell him this fantastic idea? OR?

yap that's what entails a real developed city good organization of industrial zones, residential zones and commercial zones eg cbds with a good road network n NMT and a good skyline (urban planning) to top it up otherwise you get when a city is disorganized even when it grows n develops it becomes a slumpolis , no matter how developed it will be due to lack of zoning rules where anything goes so definitely i will go with organized cities where there is a clear zoned areas where slums are clearly defined from other residential areas n can be eliminated gradually not a mix mash of slums n good residences in one neighborhood which can be tricky to develop due to varied interests so will stick with Abidjan.... thanks n cheers mate

You have a point there.
Abidjan city planners did a good job but all the same Accra has got lots of other good things over Abidjan... There's nothing Abidjan have that Accra do not have.

For a well organized and planned city, Abidjan takes the crown but for development! please Accra ain't joking

Then the list will be "Nigeria", Egypt, South Africa and Kenya.

The is no difference between the region and the City now because there's no more separation between the two...

Now they are even fighting on where the city boundary ends.

I don't know what you are saying here.

Accra city is different from Accra metropolis.
Same way Accra city is different from Greater Accra Region.

Accra City includes Weija, Teshi, Nungua Madina, Adenta etc but Accra Metropolis does not include all these places.

Same way we have so many Towns and Villages which make up the Greater Accra Region. Some are an hour+ drive away from Accra city.

Note that Tema is a separate city.
Places like Ashiama, Oyibi, Amasama etc are all independent Towns.

We have 16 regions of which Greater Accra Region happens to be one of the regions.. It's not a City.

the most insane part is fish being more expensive in Accra and Takoradi than Kumasi..

But this understood by the fact that about 70% of fish from the coast ends up in KUmasi

Infact, fish is much expensive in all the coastal regions than it is in Kumasi.

I think it same problem facing any country with history of hyperinflation.. Argentina, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Ghana..Its hard to trust cedis..it depreciate rapidly every year.. Ghana redominated about 10yrs but it has depreciated 600%...if you're selling you gotta factor future inflation..by time you're done..Kumasi I think does wholesale trading so things move faster

The emboldened is one of the reason why I know you've done your research well on Ghana and I always agree to your post, cus it's actually the reality on ground and it's what I have experienced on a personal level. The hyperinflation is bad especially when compare her to next door neighbour Cote d'ivoire. Till covid-19 happened, you get the prices of most commodities in 2019 as what you got them in 2009 in ivory coast.

How many times will you slum dwellers get this?

Among all the regions in Ghana, Greater Accra Region experiences dumsor the most followed by Ashanti Region, Western Region in that order.

The smaller regions even in the dumsor era did not experienced it that much.

If you want to enjoy better electricity supply Accra is not the best place to live, it's as simple as ABC

there's nothing like Hyperinflation with the Cedi ...

What we are talking about is solely based on racketeering by traders..
It cuts across rent, transport, and pricing of commodities and services....

Do you even know how many times my rent has changed in Abidjan? Mention one thing who's price has remained the same since 2009.

The reasons why the cities on the list I posted are on that list is mostly behavioral, with the exception of Iran and Syria which are situational...

In Accra, prices of everything in the city is tied to the pricing of petroleum products. When fuel prices goes up, the price of everything goes up.. The problem is, no one makes sure they come back down when fuel prices reduce, except for cost of transportation...

All the Chinese cities on the list are there because the prices of everything is tied to real estate speculation..

To reach Ghana's level of development, your country need to invest more in it people.

nop on things on the ground(reality) which can be seen on his videos and interviews from different personalities from both countries example a ghanian chef who is married to a kenyan who lives with his family in Nairobi mostly visits Accra after every two months each year who confessed to Kenya being better or you want me to bring that Ghana's vision 2050 development north star which quotes nai n Kenya as a role model anyway no vex charlie just friendly banter bruh given a chance to stay in west africa will choose ghana esp Takoradi n live with a dark skinned Akan beauty seems a cool place nway wanna learn Akan would you teach me

Go back and watch that video, and listen to the man again.
He is a Ghanaian and the wife is a Kenyan.

He said his wife asked that they settle in Ghana and he also said they should rather settle in Kenya so after back and forth with the wife they decided to stay in Kenya. Where in the video did Wode Maya, the wife or the man said Kenya is better than Ghana? if you want to lie call your fellow Kenyans and lie to them.

You're confusing - 415B is projected for this year - the real figures will be out when some time next year. Your 2020 GDP from what I can see is 300B. I have seen you say 380B.

Mauritus tiny or not - has overtaken South Africa - this did not just happen - they made it happen.

South Africa economy is expected to recover. Kenya economy will grow. The big difference - coming from -5 percent last year to 5 percent is zero growth - it's recovery.

Mauritius is a micro nation
Almost part of India

Let's talk real countries here please
No country less than 1.5 million should be mentioned here abeg undecided

most of west africa capital city has Accra similar outlook . From balogun in Lagos to kumasi in Abidjan and makola in Accra all have the same semblance . Unless you are not being honest. This are market area that is basically know for doing business in the open .

What we have in kejetia is called indoor market , it is an alternative to open market . Ghana is the only country with such a huge indoor market in west africa and probably sub saharan africa .

Singapore and Oslo started from somewhere, they didn't just rise in a day, there is blueprint in which those aforementioned countries followed, Accra has started from somewhere , kejetia has been built in Kumasi , that is a good model, the second phase is expected to start soon . The system will soon spread over the country. Ghana isn't rich as singapore nor Oslo but there is model of development here and it is expected to work . And if you have checked Ghana history long enough you will realised Ghana has always strive to be first in almost every good indices . For instance, Ghana is the first country in sub saharan africa to first halve her poverty ratio way ahead of the global deadline in 2015.

Development in Ghana is cut across, Accra shouldn't win it all,... City such as Tamali and takoradi are fast rising. I will not be interested in one city development here as we have in some africa city . Development should cut across every regional capital and not necessarily the administrative capital only.

Infrastructure wise, Accra is already developing. They're ongoing project just everywhere in the city . From flying over to new road or expansion of the old ones
