Seeing how your companies are running back home - I think kenya companies should not be afraid to come down to Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbwabwe. It may be a little tough to crack the SACUs - coz of much higher standards of good - but definitely in stuff like Avacados - or Tea or Coffee or Horticulture - where were are globally competitive - why not?

Anyway good luck on that

2. the so called democracy the Igbo practiced wasn't even democracy
or is a society where women were less than male children a democratic society?

3. the Igbo never really had large states. they operated at clan level

4. what you're calling democracy is actually a lack of modernisation.

1. It was better undoubtedly but the system was exploited e.g. Oyo empire

2. Your point is false the women were equally represented in the democracy you had the:
Umunna ( Male )
Umuada ( Female )
And another one for the children and youths that i've forgotten the name of but essentially everybody was represented and voted democratically by the village people and don't even bring that Eze nonsense because Eze isn't a kingship title or monarchial but a priesthood system rather

3. The Igbos did have large states e.g. Nri Kingdom, Aboh, Kingdom and Aro Kingdom were all large polities and not based at clan level as you wrongly claimed

4. I'll just ignore that one doesn't even begin to make sense how is it a lack of modernization please elaborate

Stop talking nonsense, huh? You may see development as tall buildings etc, I may see development as achieving a high level of literacy, good life expectancy, secured environment, good roads, food security, access to electricity, good health care etc etc. Those are very close to my definition of development. It’s not necessarily the evidence of tall buildings. How many tall buildings can you find in Norway, one of the richest countries in the world. So stop talking crap.

Building a skyscraper or not, in my opinion, is a function of population density. Countries with bigger population will naturally want to maximize space by constructing high-rise buildings. Countries with smaller populations may not see the need for skyscrapers.

It is ridiculous for a country like kenya to be talking about development when it’s citizens are starving cool

So this guy has a brain after all. I see that long exposure to advanced civilizations like Kenya and South Africa has done much good for you. Such a shame that your fellow countrymen haven't changed a single bit even after all this time. But if a cognitively challenged fella like you was able to change, I believe that your brother's will do so too.

Let talk ShopRite as an example

Shoprite The Group’s original and flagship brand and the biggest food retailer in Africa-> Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Eswatini, Zambia

It has exited Angola, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Kenya

So basically you're now regional force - dominating landlocked zambia, malawi, zim - in addition to tiny ones Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland.

I believe Kenya companies can expand and give south african firms competition in zambia, malawi and zimbwabwe- there are few who already there.

In fact quick search - on the downstream oil business I see many kenya companies expanding further south.

KenolKobil (although now subsidiary of French Rubis) -
KenolKobil's headquarters are in Nairobi, Kenya with subsidiaries in Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia

KenolKobil has got the nod to acquire a Zambian oil marketer, marking the second deal in under three months after it was last year bought by French multinational, Rubis Energie.

The firm has been cleared to acquire Samfuel Limited through its Zambian subsidiary, Kobil Zambia Limited.

2) Hass Petroleum -Hass Petroleum is a leading regional oil marketing company, incorporated in 1997 it has a significant presence in East, Central, and Horn of Africa. Countries with significant operations include Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, South Sudan, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

3)Alfa Energy has grown retail presence in all major towns in East & Central Africa. We also operate service stations in various African markets including Kenya, South Africa, Zambia and D.R.C.

4) Stabex International Limited is an independent oil marketing company, incorporated in 2009, with a significant presence in East and Central African regions. We are a renowned oil distributor with fully fledged operations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Financial and Intermediation

Kenyan-owned Octagon Africa has bought a 49 percent stake in a pensions business formerly operated in Zambia by Alexander Forbes Financial Services.

Octagon Africa Group chief executive Fred Waswa said the investment is the culmination of a collaboration with the Johannesburg-listed firm, which started with the Kenyan company opening its representative office in Lusaka last February.

“We have had a team there (Lusaka) familiarising our Zambia team with our company culture while creating a new learning platform that will guide the formulation of future products for our various markets,” he said.

4.for modernisation to occur. an amount of monarchy is a must in those days

1. Oyo empire where the Oyo Mesi could take control and depose of the Alaafin whenever they wanted? And a great example is near the collapse of the Oyo empire where 9 Alaafins were forced to commit the ritual suicide because the despotic Bashorun Gaa wanted to become the Alaafin that's the system you want?

2.Women may not have been equal but they still had a voice and they still had rights there were even women that could be admitted into the Umunna if they were influential enough in the community, a woman could become a massive land owner and even a chief in the village if she works hard to build her wealth and the same applies to Yoruba society so that point doesn't really matter. The Osu and Ohu system is and was horrible and i'm still trying to learn the rational behind it but it allegedly wasn't practiced in Nri where they accepted all no matter the race, language, or any other sins committed as long as they followed the rules of the kingdom.

3. There's a reason why they were called kingdoms and why Oyo was called an empire and yes it was much larger but what exactly is your point? You said they were at clan level mostly and I just told you that they had kingdoms that spanned the whole of Abia to parts of southern enugu and parts of anambra state ( Aro Kingdom ). Other kingdoms stretched from the Niger River at Aboh all the way down to Brass ( Aboh Kingdom ) and others occupied the whole of central and northern Anambra, and parts of Enugu and Imo ( Nri ) for the most part they were organized into kingdoms it was only in very sparse and small areas where they were actually independent and worked at clan or village level

4. That's false the Igbos were modernized they had houses, canoes, iron working, brass working, clay working, indigenous scripts ( Apart from Nsibidi such as the Aniocha script ) and they even had whole barns made for yams and they were built in a row by row manner to hang each yam in it's own section and in order of freshest to the least fresh so your point of the need for monarchy for there to be modernization at the time was just stupid

KCB
5 MIN READ

NAIROBI (Reuters) - Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) KCB.NR, the country's biggest lender by assets, plans to move into Zambia and Ethiopia and could consider acquisitions in its continental expansion plans, its chief executive said.

Ranked first in east Africa’s biggest economy with assets of $3 billion, KCB has operations in Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan and has already said Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo are in its sights in the short-term.

“Burundi and DRC are countries that are very much in our short-term horizon ... looking at 2011 and 2012 we will begin to see where next in terms of our expansion program,” Martin Oduor-Otieno said in Nairobi on Tuesday at the Reuters Africa investment summit.

Normally KCB uses nations where it already operates as a springboard into neighboring countries and therefore Zambia and Ethiopia, when that country opens its banking sector to international competition, will be next on the list, Oduor-Otieno said.

“It is a matter of time, it is a matter of what models we will use to get there. Traditionally we have gone through the green fields model where we have set up from scratch,” he said.

From 2020 - we became Malawi biggest exporter (must be Sugar we import from them)

Latest figures from the International Trade Centre (ITC) Trade Map have indicated that Kenya has become Malawi’s top export market replacing South Africa.

According to figures from the ITC, Malawi exported goods worth K49.7 billion to Kenya in 2019 the highest figure from any of Malawi’s trading partners on the continent. Around the world Kenya comes second after Belgium which imported goods from Malawi worth K110.6 billion in the year under review.

The next thing you know all petrol stations are owned by Somalis smiley all the eateries; name it. You better embrace Somalis and make them South Africans like you did Indians. There's a reason

For one there where older hominid groups in those areas before the homo sapiens arrived in Yoruba land they haven't identified this group yet but in Igbo land they've identified it as the pygmies so both the Yorubas and Igbos have 20% DNA difference due to the dufferent hominid groups but the rest of the 80% DNA that is homo sapien based the divergence is very minor they still look very similar I know this cause my dad is Igbo and My Mom is Yoruba but you actually can't tell the difference between either side of the family

Your dad is Igbo and you insult me at IPOB when I am not even from the east of Nigeria. Good to know what is snake is always a snake
