Good evening everyone. I am in pursuit of knowledge concerning pepper farming. A friend of mine has an irrigated farm land and the land is idle for now. I'd like to know if i can plant pepper. I don't know how profitable planting pepper is but this guy's land is about an acre or more. Can somebody please tell me how to go about it??

Planting pepper is good but do you have a ready market for it? And you may not make so much money except you’re doing it on a very large expanse of land. You will need the services of pickers anytime you have to harvest the pepper at maturity which would be at least twice a week.
See picture of my pepper back in 2020.

Chilli pepper is good. Very profitable. 6 plots is huge. If you go for a good variety, you will get tired of harvesting. It will take most of your profit. So, I avoid it where there are very little helping hands. But anytime I work in the north, it is a sure crop.

Do not go for pepper and tomato now as glut is coming soon. Prepare toward the period there is chilli scarcity. And learn rainy season pepper farming. If you do not have enough helping hands to get the job done, consider tomatoes. Tomato is jackpot when produced at the right time. And one acre tomato if you spend well and do it accurately, you don jam Tinubu's car. Ask Tony Tetula the meaning. Na plenty money. As long as you know how to manage it during riny season.

Don't get me wrong, chilli and even habanero are equally good. But for chilli, the challenge is during harvesting. You need enough people.

if you say you go plant now self e go be December or close to December before you can transplant it from nursery bed to the farm.

so you go need irrigation, a confirm irrigation ni o, to keep dem growing

my guy as you say the land has already been irrigated, plant your pepper jor no need to fear but no plant bawa alone because it get his own problem wey dey do am

you divide the farm in to three part

now plant your bawa on one part and then plant rodo ( hot pepper) for the other two part.

make you come dey see the miracle wey go happen.

mind you, learn how to use chemical o before you go use am on your farm, na that one fit cause kasala o.

for the harvesting , there are so many women that can do that for you

If you need good returns on your investment, target your harvest/marketing into the 2nd quarter of the year. At this period, a 50kg sack goes as high as 20k. Meaning you have to do your nursery by late Dec/early Jan. So suspend plan to plant by this time else you will jam 1st quarter of the year glut. Currently, this same sack goes for 3 to 4k!.
