it will consume more gas. Do u know about the law of conservation of energy. Or the first law of thermodynamics. It states that the the total amount of energy supply to a system is equal to the work done by the system plus the internal energy store by the system.
Secondly remember two that different food takes different time to cook. Think of how to manage it when one get ready before the other one. Will u allow it to still stay in the pot, or will you pack it out? What every you do, there will still wastage. If u pack it out the empty part of the pot will begin to burn. And if u decide to replace it with water to prevent the pot from burning, you are now wasting the same energy. More that what you would have consume if u cook them separate. By when u put cold water in the pot that already has food of higher temperature the food temperature will drop because of the law of conservation of energy.
Heat will follow form higher potential to lower potential.
The time to cook both food separately will be lower than cooking both of them at the same time.
To me I consider the pot as a none calculated design.

no logic here, is the time required to cook a cup rice the same with cooking 2 cups?. The same amount of heat that will be dispense when cooking them separate will be the same when you cook them together or even more. I can run calculations to prove the fact, but who cares.

Let's say you want some yam and eggs. Put the yam to boil. Then prep all the stuff you want to put in your eggs. Eggs won't take long, so as the yam approaches being done, you start your eggs. They should both be done at the same time and not over/under cooked. You can do the same with veggie, chicken, fish, or wara soya. If the protein will take longer, sort out the difference and start the longer one first, e.g. goat meat.

One trick you could use for maybe rice or something else is to have a tin (inner pot) or silicone bag (submerged in water) in one side. Then you just pull it out so you don't overcook the rice or whatever. You can also use a thermal container to keep the finished stuff hot while the other finishes.

It's really not hard, and I think it's worth the effort just to save on time. Also, clean up is faster.
