theenchanter:don't get involved in a debate you can't win firstly regardless of your opinion Americas Amtrak runs at a maximum of 150mph that was the argument .....Nigeria has yet to even acquire any trains that can reach 200kmph to even be considered a HRS system so again don't know why you would even mention Nigeria. Again both SGR and NGR have been around since the 1800s,they ain't modern, they ain't new and there is no difference in terms of modernity between the 2, South Africa chose the NGR due to our terrain and cost efficiency.... Same reason Japan also uses NGR.... Not to mention we have new ultra modern passenger trains that beats anything in Nigeria and most of Africa in fact. Also the new thing is maglev trains if Nigeria gets that then I'll be impressed.... But 200 year old SGR does not impress me. Did I mention we are the only SSA country that currently has a proposed hsr development plan? |

Just30:You are the one who needs to be educated on this my man. Take Saudi Arabia pre and pro Muhammed as an example. Almost all of the entire culture of the Arab world today is based on islam and their interpretation of it. It's very different from Arabia pre Muhammed. Also all of the pyramids and occultic customs of ancient Egypt stemmed from their belief in the gods and priests as well as life after death. Christmas is a culture but it was also first religion, and so on. Religion is defined as a way of life of a people. 1 Like |

Abohboy:You don't get it. Using diesel won't cost u less. 1.Have u tried to think about a cost of generating 1kw by diesel vs electric energy like hydro power? 2.Have u calculated servicing and maintenance cost of diesel engines vs electric powered? There is no where a diesel trains can be cheaper than electric. |

GeneralDae:You have still not made a relevant point because you still dont know what custom are and what religion is. For instance, customs determined how Egyptain kings were buried, and how their kings were chosen.. Customs determined their dressing and the food they ate..... customs is what determined what their religion was as they looked around them to determine what was there and what wasnt. |

Just30:I agree with you but custom is primarily influenced by religion. Religion for instance made the Egyptians bury their kings the way they did due to the belief in life after death. It made the ancient jews conduct burials the way they did. Religion have influenced the dressing of many societies. Custom comes first but it is always influenced by the religion of the people. Customs do not exist in a vacuum, religion gives them their life wire in most cases. 1 Like |

jl115:firstly, I'm not here to win an argument.... But Amtrak can run a maximum of 150km/h and Nigeria's rail also runs at150km/h, but then, Nigeria's rail can run up to 250km/h. So saying Nigeria has yet to acquire any train that can reach 200km/h is nothing but ignorance at it's finest..... At least, 4 lines are currently running and construction of another 1300km+ has been approved, unlike SA where cape guage is the standard and only guatrain running is at 150km/h. Yes, both NGR and SGR have been around since the 1880s when SGR was invented.... But do u know NGR was actually invented around 1500s? while they aren't really modern, SGR is better and modern than the NGR and also the base of all new rail construction except maglev or german skytrain.... All new high speed trains run on SGR and not NGR, unfortunately for SA, it's stuck with NGR. all ur talk of having passenger trains that beats anything in nigeria is just in ur medulla. If 200year old SGR doesnt impress u, is it 500year old NGR that does? Forgetting that all new hsr run on them. Ah, pls. SA is not the only SSA nation with an hsr development plan, stop being delusional like most saffas. 4 Likes |

Just30:So because something came first, it cannot be changed or influenced by other things that came after? Also custom must not necessarily develop before religon can exist ( e.g in the case of Egypt and many ancient civilizations, we do not know what came first) and even if I should grant that fallacy, it still doesn't change the fact that religon is the primary influencer and backbone of cultures. For example, the customs of the middle east were practiced by all in that region including the isrealites, but moses also brought religon that modified some customs and changed some things in the way of life of his people, same with Muhammed, Buddha, etc. |

Just30: Arab people, also known as Arabs, are the people who live in the Arab world. The "Arab world" is thought to be in North Africa and Western Asia. Persians are those who live on the Iranian Cultural Continent, which stretches from the Iranian Plateau in the east to the Indus River in Pakistan in the west. It also spreads from Central Asia to the Caucasus in the north, then to the Persian Gulf in the south. Arabs are people who can trace their ancestry back to the original inhabitants of Arabian tribes who lived in the Syrian Desert and Arabian Peninsula; Arabs are people who can trace their ancestry back to the original inhabitants of Arabian tribes who lived in the Syrian Desert and Arabian Peninsula. |
