Electronic and electrical equipments can have an "intermittent fault"; a fault that comes up at interval with extended use.

That means my phone screen may go blank after a few hours use and I'd need to let it cool before it comes up again. I can comfortably sell that device as fully functional as I'm very sure the buyer won't test it for hours and when he gets home I'd claim it got spoilt with him. Afterall he tested it in my presence and it worked perfectly.

In my opinion, to reduce the rate of buying faulty items
You should -

Buy items from established sellers with good reviews.

Avoid new monikers (it's quite strange that a newly registered moniker is already so conversant with the forum that he already knows where exactly to list his wares).

Avoid out-of-state purchases, especially with fairly used electrical devices. (Personally I only buy items from sellers within reach, incase I need to show you crazy).

Try to pay for items with transfer and in the transfer description fully state the purpose of the transfer.

We're in a society that celebrates thieves so it shouldn't come as a surprise that a lot of people have dubious characters but let's try to safeguard our sides.

I sold a monitor to someone on this thread in Sokoto. He paid the money to me but he was unavailable to receive the item, I kept his money in an account where I can't transfer money from for two weeks and waited until he was ready to receive. As we conversed, he said he has been on nl since 2012 and he has never seen a bad review about me. Hence the trust.

I'm not saying I'm perfect, but do your due diligence! Make research on the seller and see his history with sales.

If it's too much stress, use escrow.

I'm telling everyone this, Nigeria is built on crime. Crime thrives in this country. Even if you decide to recover your money, it'd cost you more than the money you're trying to recover. Please be careful as the days are evil.

One more thing, be careful with people who
1. Claim to be Pastors, Imams or religious leaders
2. Involve family with the business
3. Claim not to have an item but know someone who has
4. Get defensive and fight when asked simple questions

Next time make sure items is like this and the person is in the waybill pack before you send the complete money. You have send 5k for them to do all of this. Confirm the transport fee, video call and and all of that.

You’re a good man. Next time, if you and the seller are within the same state use Gokada or Uber/Bolt as intermediary.

Tell the seller you will send someone to come pick up for you. Instruct the driver/rider to help you inspect the item(s) and let them know you will settle them for their efforts.

When the rider/driver gets to point of pickup and done inspecting, you may then transfer to seller and get your goods delivered without story.

So sorry about what you had to go through.
