I think that although app development and web design are very popular now, a good specialist will always find a job. There are very few of those who really take a responsible approach to the task. I applied to KindGeek when I needed building a hospital management system software, and I can say that these are specialists you can rely on. |

Nice thread. Geting a web design work from people no easy and thats the most popular way of making money from IT in Nigeria. People still use that one to hammer big. But their are plenty other hidden ways. |

LikeAking: People hammer big with web design? I find that interesting. Are you referring to Website design or web apps? |

Dhavido: Why use a paid hosting platform as a learner when there are tons of free hosting platform you could use. Like netlify, git pages etc. Use that money to buy course instead. 2 Likes |

tensazangetsu20: Everyone will expend the same effort. This belief that women have it easier is untrue. You sat the same tests/exams that women sat and passed, same way you did, so how is it suddenly easier for them? The latter is another assumption. |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by tensazangetsu20(m): 3:40pm On Oct 27, 2021 |
BRATISLAVA: Women have it much easier in tech. Even the recruitment system is watered down if a woman is involved. In DSA tests, women will be getting easy and men will be getting hards and mediums. 1 Like |

tensazangetsu20: Are you kidding me now Tensa! Are you saying all I have to do to get my foot in the door is claim to be a female and I'd get a watered down screening? Seriously?!?! How about non-binary and people who don't identify with a gender. Do they get easier questions than both male and female? Are you saying that if a woman writes a piece of code for critical infrastructure and the code does not come up to scratch, QA will approve the code because it's a woman and they can accept watered down code because a woman had watered down job screening? |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by BRATISLAVA: 3:44pm On Oct 27, 2021 |
tensazangetsu20: If inclusion is what you call easier... However, tell us how watered down recruitment tests are, please. Is it that the tests for men and women are determinedly different? Like if a role has specific requirements, they will water it down and hire an incompetent person because it's a female? Or is she actually competent? We're all here to learn. 1 Like |

BRATISLAVA: TBH, I am shocked and disappointed by the assertion tensazangetsu20 made. Completely stunned to my marrow It's almost like saying it's okay to hire an unqualified surgeon if she is female. Even with inclusion policies ALL candidates are expected to meet a minimum baseline irrespective of gender 1 Like 1 Share |

airsaylongcome: I know its unbelievable but this happens in a lot of Nigerian tech firms. Once they see its a woman or hear a womans voice during the initial interview they reduce the standard just so they can have more women on the team. With foreign companies where no one can see your face or hear your voice till interview stages the standard is the same but in Nigerian tech its absolutely different. You even see recruitments with warnings like more preference will be given to women and shit here in Nigeria. 4 Likes |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by airsaylongcome: 4:00pm On Oct 27, 2021 |
tensazangetsu20: So a tech Nigerian firm will hire someone (female or otherwise) who doesn't know how to pop a stack, or how to evaluate Big O for an algorithm because of their gender? Are they developing real-life production ready software or they are hiring a student for a training program? Come on nau Tensa And is the phrase "more preference will be given to women" only in Nigeria? Or you haven't seen foreign remote jobs that say the same? Or that preference will be given to minorities (blacks and Hispanics)? Really? Here's part of a JD for a job opening in the US As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we encourage veterans, individuals with disabilities, women, and all minorities to consider our employment opportunities. 1 Like 1 Share |

airsaylongcome: I know its unbelievable but I see this all the time especially on Nigerian tech twitter. Kuda bank had an internship the other day and was mocking the men who applied You even have a lot of female NGOS catering strictly to women. Giving women laptops buying women courses theres none of such going on for men. Even the last enyata macbook stuff was extremely skewed to women. Women have it much easier in Nigerian tech honestly if we face the facts. 3 Likes |

airsaylongcome: Perhaps that's one of the tech myths that needs to be dispelled. Obviously we don't expect much of females at pretty much anything, because they are females, but I cannot see them being treated preferentially just because guys in the field feel they can't possibly measure up. It's a boys club doesn't mean only men have the aptitude. This is why inclusion came to be. The same way guys claim females reading male courses have it easier. Never knew the marking template had a big M on one and an F on the other. In fact, responding to a perceived female is a slight. |

Instead of nitpicking at semantics, the gist is generally true. If push comes to shove, there’s preference for female developers. Not that it is bad. Heck, of recent even tech incubators have female only batches and the latest TEF program had more position for female entrepreneurs. |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by airsaylongcome: 4:07pm On Oct 27, 2021 |
monikulapo: No! They do not have it easier!! It's the same baseline whether male or female. |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by monikulapo: 4:09pm On Oct 27, 2021 |
airsaylongcome:Plus I’ve interned in the industry in Nigeria, and I worked with two females who had more developer relations related roles who just had CS degrees and connection, I know for a fact a male applicant would’ve been more scrutinized. Again I don’t think it’s bad. It’s actually good for representation. But I don’t think Tensas statement is as scandalous as it’s being made out to be. Simples. |
Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by monikulapo: 4:13pm On Oct 27, 2021 |
Instead of being trying to be politically correct, look at it this way there’s more emphasis on women in tech in Nigeria, there’s going to be a bottleneck if they don’t get employed so obviously there’s preference for female developers. Simple as. Plus I actually have experience with this in 4 different occasions and settings. |

You saying a business owner will hire a woman over a more competent male for the same role? Or that if they both have equal competence they would hire a female (because she is female) over a male counterpart? |
