*LAGOS SCHOOLS TO OBSERVE A WEEK MID-TERM BREAK FOR 2021/2022 ACADEMIC SESSION*
*By Administrator* -*October 26, 2021

Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni
*Public and private schools* below tertiary level in Lagos State are to observe a week-long mid-term break for the 2021/2022 academic session between 1st and 5th November, 2021.

They are to resume on November 8th 2021 for instructional learning hours in accordance with the 2021/2022 harmonized school calendar released by the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Ministry of Education.

According to a press release from the OEQA, the Director General of the Office, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, said the mid-term break will afford schools the opportunity to internally upskill their teachers in various educational and developmental programmes, especially at this time of COVID-19, where learning has gone beyond physical four walls of the classroom.

Mrs. Seriki-Ayeni urged school administrators and leaders in the state to ensure strict compliance with the government’s directive for a hitch free mid-term break.

The Director-General said: “They should also ensure that the teachers are professionally enriched to enhance improved staff performance, effectiveness and efficiency as training and retraining is key to professional development in the 21st century”.

“They should also use the opportunity to further put in place COVID-19 safety and precautionary protocols as prescribed by the state government for students’ wellness’, she added.

Seriki-Ayeni implored parents/guardians to make use of the mid-term break in engaging their children/wards productively as well as spend meaningful time with them to boost a cordial relationship that will engender a peaceful society.

Meanwhile, Some of my schools are still hell bent on going against this directives by observing the two-day midterm break this week.

Please, parents and fellow teachers, are your wards and schools also complying with this govt directives?

Yeah I know but why are they not complying since the govt says all schools in Lagos?

Is it that the news has not gone round?

That's what I want to know.

I have no idea but it has always been like that. Schools picked the date that favours them regards mid term break.

Next week is the first week of the new month, which is the time most private schools use to collect fees. Many parents will have spent the fee before school finally resumes. That's why most private schools are against it

I think there's rumour of a penalty for those that don't observe it, cos those who didn't want to observe are quickly recanting.

Public school teachers in this area said they were asked to use the period to get their COVID19 vaccination, hence the week-long holiday

This is serious. I wonder why some schools choose to be stubborn and want to always do their own thing.

Anyways, we are watching. I hope it doesn't get dirty.

Thanks.

To me, I don't think privates should be forced to go week-long.

You're welcome

I don't think so too but you know Lagos State govt and their wahala. They just like to drag the private schools about anyhow all in a bid to make them commit and have them grease their palms.
